  1. I've found many things can trigger DH if the antibodies are there and you are prone to it. MSG, high salicylates would do it to me in the beginning. I don't know if you'll see it, but I posted not to use aloe or prickly pear unless you know you don't have a problem with salicylates. That MAY be a problem for you, if your soda was sugar based instead...
  2. Gluten-Free-of you have a problem with salicylates don't use the aloe! It's very high, the prickly pear would probably be, also since its a plant. If not, try it. Both are very soothing.
  3. Funny you should ask... I have a weird thing on my pinkie. I find covering it helps, even a simple band-aid. I put a bit of Shea butter/olive oil salve on the band aid and it helps even more. I bought some latex kitchen gloves the other day for washing dishes since that seems to aggrivate it. The waterproof bandages work great if I can get them to...
  4. Try Talenti gelato. It's pretty clean. Also Haagen Dazs five ingredient (or is it 3?) is very clean. I make it at home. Very easy and much less expensive. However, I do admit to having an addiction to Talenti (omg the blood orange sorbet!!!). Yes, the crap called food is unbelievable. Even before gluten-free I was appalled at what was in the stores...
  5. It would be refreshing to see a doctor out something as accurate and factual as correspondence in a record. Alas, what ones of a certain nature will do is our something potentially offensive or damaging such as "hypochondriac", or "hysterical", or "ignores advice", or "uncooperative". I told an urgent care doctor, who I saw last year about my DH (when...
  6. Well, double yay! You've inspired me to go to the farmer's market to look for a source of li, raw milk for kefir. I'm trying to make and eat some fermented foods. Hope I don't blow up the kitchen. Also must find a pork roast for Easter.... Anyway, I'm glad you had a good breakfast and happy Friday!!!
  7. Wow. Simply wow. And they wonder why we roll our eyes when people ask if we've talked to a dietician/nutritionist about our unhealthy diets. Yes, I know they aren't all like that but there are more out there than I'm comfortable with. What city was this on, if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to steer clear of that hospital if you know what I mean...
  8. Please make sure we are talking about the same Smartie. This is the one we have in the US and it is gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link
  9. Sorry, didn't see this. Funny you ask - I made rice wraps (or as my son calls them - Asian burritos) with the leftovers and started wondering about chicken and something gingery or limey. Oddly enough, the meat doesn't come out sweet. I was thinking of sprite or gingerale. A famous southern dish is Coke and pork/ham. Sweet as syrup...
  10. That does sound good. I like applesauce. No one else in my house does, though. Oh well, more for me.
  11. Sorry to cause all the confusion. These are the smarties I was talking about. Open Original Shared Link
  12. Big hug. Remember, Sals are in lots of things. Natural, good things. You can't eliminate them just reduce them. So try eating what you like, first. And you may find just ONE thing sends you over the edge. What I sincerely hope is that iodine will be less of a factor of you cut down on the sals.
  13. And here's another bit....from what I've pieced together (as well as others), the longer you go without dealing with Celiac or any other ai disease, the more damage happens and the more likely you are to develop other ai diseases. Like Hashis. Or Lupus. Or arthritis. Or Sjogren's. You may have another food intolerance - temporary or permanent. Many recovering...
  14. I'm pretty sure you can order it from an online store. The appearance and texture is amazing. Unlike anything else gluten-free. I like it for French toast. I know...why ruin it like that, right??? Here's my deep dark secret - it makes me sad to eat it. Makes me want real French bread (the texture isn't THAT good ).
  15. As Randy says..."FFFFUUUUUDDDDGGGEEE!"
  16. First, I'm sorry to hear about your family troubles. I hope it settles soon for the sake of all. Second, I don't know a thing about antidepressants and how they affect your body going into the gluten-free diet. Third, if Smarties are the little round candies made of sugar and coloring they are completely gluten-free and have as many as you want. Most...
  17. I haven't found one using ricotta. Oddly enough, most of the bloggers attempting it are Vegan. I did notice they talked about adding more flour. Repeatedly.
  18. I think a self test is if food sits in your stomach, too little acid. Other than that I don't know. As far as how long to take vitamins - did you have your levels tested? Mine tested low and I'm testing every 6-4 months. Whey is milk protein. Do you need protein? Can you eat meat or beans?
  19. Withdrawal and hormones. Wow. Glad I'm not at your house. She may be going through withdrawal this time, or she may be acting like a 12 year-old. Withdrawal can make you mad mad mad, moody, and emotional. Personally, I went into the bathroom at work and kicked the wall. And bawled. I suggest a good stiff martini for you.
  20. That's interesting about the milk. When I had stomach ulcers and a hiatal hernia the doctors and pharmacist told me to lay off milk. I refused because a milkshake calmed my stomach down. They always gave me a weird look about that one.
  21. If you are buying table salt they will clearly state if it is iodized or not on the carton. Sodium does not naturally contain iodine, unless it's sea salt. Sea salts have varying levels of iodine in them. Some manufacturers list it, others don't. As for prepackaged foods you won't know unless you ask the manufacturer. Most pickled items won't use iodized...
  22. Thanks, I just bought some yesterday. And I do have lots of leftovers I can shove in them.
  23. Some nuts (if not all) are high in sals. Almonds are. I did eat a salt-free cashew butter when I was li and it was ok. But I wasn't as sensitive to all sals at that point as I suspect you are.
  24. Some of the stuff you're eating can make for nasty burps, at least. Can you handle mint? Make some mint water (just put mint in your water) and drink. It may help. I use Weleda salt toothpaste and it's great. I like something that gets the hair off my teeth and tongue and it does the trick.
  25. You will need to apply the lotion/Vanicream several times a day. Once isn't enough. Keep it moisturized and soft. When it swells and weeps, gently wipe with a soft cloth or put dry wash clothes under your arms. Then more lotion. You may try sleeping with socks on your hands. Cut your nails down, at least.
