I think all you can do is wait. The type of pain your describing is the same sort of thing I've seen others describe so it wouldn't surprise me, although it also isn't something I'm familiar with. There are people who have absolutely no symptoms at all, which imo is extremely scary. There are some things that are "classic" symptoms but there isn't a right...

Happy New Year!! I don't exactly celebrate and I have 5 more hours of this year staring me down. I'm saving up all my energy for this weekend, I don't need to wear myself out with parties tonight. We just had a little pizza and we'll probably watch some bad TV. Best of luck with that whole skiing thing. I shudder at the thought of that much time... -
ARCHIVED Swiss Miss Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa
Adalaide replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was drinking it all last winter, but then again I was new last winter too so I may have been mildly stupid. You could just give them a call. It could never hurt just to verify things like manufacturing practices and such. I do still have a box from last winter up in my pantry, but I am both A: too lazy to go look at it this second as I just got in from... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tea
Adalaide replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy from Teavana. I don't know if they are entirely gluten free, but I do know that I am not bothered by their teas. I buy from a local store but they can also be ordered online. I'm also as much of a tea snob as I am a chocolate snob I guess. If you are into bags, they do sell bags as well as tea balls, and travel mugs that you can just steep right... -
ARCHIVED How/when Were You First Diagnosed With Celiac?
Adalaide replied to revolverblue85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Much like you I had that BLAM! shocker when it wasn't even hinted at by doctors. I was having issues with my gallbladder and my insurance wouldn't cover what they called an elective surgery to have it removed. This led to repeat trips to the ER when the pain was so bad that narcotics wouldn't even touch it. Eventually blood tests showed that I my liver enzymes... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Not Sticking To The gluten-free Diet
Adalaide replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Listen to Irish. Everything she says is only said with the the love of someone who wants to keep someone else from suffering as so many others have. So simple, decide that the last time is the last time. Only you can be your advocate. Choose health. We'll all be here if you have a moment of weakness, come to us before you cave. Don't wait until it is too... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Not Sticking To The gluten-free Diet
Adalaide replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. I only pointed that out because of the mention of not entirely trusting a doctor and diagnosis. Lots of us don't always trust doctors, but so what? There is one thing we can certainly trust and it is our bodies. So yes, if you respond well to not eating gluten, then respond poorly to eating it, choosing to eat it is simply foolish. (In my defense, I... -
ARCHIVED Itching, But Not Eczema, Or Dh, Or Shingles,....
Adalaide replied to jeanzdyn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My DH manifested as intense itching beyond anything I ever imaged before the rash appeared. I do not know if this is normal or not, but it is what happened to me. Best of luck with the doctor. I blew through about half a bottle a day, and didn't find that it relieved the itching completely but I did find that Calamine lotion helped take the edge off enough... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Not Sticking To The gluten-free Diet
Adalaide replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is very much my attitude. I look at those children and it just breaks my heart. No, mommy isn't addicted to crack, she is addicted to bread. It is so simple to be healthy for your children. I didn't know why I was so sick, I look back and it just kills me a little inside to think of what my children were robbed of because of this. There was, in the not... -
I agree so much here on both points. On the off chance that the pill ever hits the market and after a few years they determine it isn't killing people I may start to use it as protection in restaurants and such. I would never use it to eat a bagel. I had a nightmare once where I ordered corndogs at a fair and started eating them without thinking about the...

Have wine. If you drink enough you won't remember and if you don't remember the calories don't count! -
After a year, a single year, the smell of fresh baked bread makes me physically ill. I've had many discussions with my husband about pharmaceutical companies. In the end, they want money and we are an uncracked market. They're working on a pill that we can take so we can eat gluten, and a vaccine and blah blah blah. A year ago I was wondering how much longer...

ARCHIVED A Year, A Novel, A Thank You
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you everyone. ((((HUGS)))) back!!! I love you all too! May 2013 bring happiness and be the best year for all of us. I used to be afraid life would never be normal again. This did take over my life, enough that I learned what I needed and then was able to let it slide into the background. I'm not afraid of gluten, not exactly. I am though scared... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Foods Cause Gi Issues
Adalaide replied to celiacSuzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are two types of gluten free foods when it comes to processed foods. First, there are foods like Amy's that are processed in a shared facility and are susceptible to CC and it is possible that the cause of your issues when consuming some products is actually gluten. Then there are others that are processed in a gluten free facitily, if these are bothering... -

You know Irish, the solution to tight pants is to stay home and in jammies. If you aren't wearing pants, they won't be tight! Happy Anniversary!!! Or um, whatever you're calling it tonight. Sounds lovely. We're following through on our burgers plan tonight. I'll make some arepas and if everything goes as planned they'll come out of the oven just... -

What is wrong with plan BBB? You can weave bacon into a breadlike substitute, then just put bacon in the middle. Bam, BBB sandwich! This covers everything except for those of us who aren't supposed to be eating bacon. I love the avocado idea! I can eat tomatoes but I may just try that for fun one day when I trial avocados. Sounds yummy but I do so hate... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Not Sticking To The gluten-free Diet

It never crossed my mind that I would see a "that's what she said" joke around these parts. You never fail to crack me up. I'm sure my husband thinks I'm halfway crazy, as I frequently am laughing while perusing these forums or other random celiac related sites. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Not Sticking To The gluten-free Diet
Adalaide replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It used to make me crazy. Now it only drives me up a wall if they are trying to kill their celiac kids. That is the one that really bothers me. Other than that though? Wanna kill yourself? Be my guest. I've known people who have both attempted and actually killed themselves through more traditional means. I have no patience or time for these people. I don... -

I went to the store for meat to make burgers and got totally distracted by Aidell's sausages marked down. Burgers got pushed back to tomorrow. Tonight we had some Italian sausages and a little pasta and sauce. I attempted to force my husband to eat Classico sauce, I even pureed it so it wouldn't be chunky. Didn't work out particularly well. I keep crossing... -
So it seems that after all this time, celiac is just a joke in my house. Yesterday we were at the store and I was very closely examining something or other, reading the ingredients considering my options. My husband was waving something in my face and I was ignoring him. When he didn't give up I finally looked up and he was waving a bag of wheat germ...

Having looked at pictures of both, and having quite an unhealthy affinity for fried foods, I vote frying. The pictures look divine! I didn't know such a thing exists, now I want some. My plan was burgers on arepas. I'm sort of rethinking that now. -
ARCHIVED Food Prep/storage Convincing Family To Go gluten-free
Adalaide replied to p4rano1d4ndro1d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband and I live with my MIL. Despite the fact that she has a strong family medical history that can be linked to celiac and herself has cancer linked to celiac she tells me at least once a week that she couldn't do what I do, it would just be too hard, she just wouldn't do it. She has little to no understanding of CC after a year. First, I don't do... -
ARCHIVED Walmart And Gluten Free Section
Adalaide replied to HeazerHacker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only reasons I shop at Wal-Mart are because I am too poor to have principles, (an ongoing joke in our house. ) and because after a year I can flip a product over, read the ingredients list and decide if it is safe or not without consulting my 3-ring binder. I did initially stop shopping there for myself when first diagnosed because their fresh foods suck... -

That's them! Aren't they stinkin adorable? When you feel like hell and need a heating pack, I don't care how old you are, having an animal instead of a boring old bag will be good for the soul.
