  1. Oh thanks for asking that! I'm going out to the Hamptons tonight and I always stop at 7 Eleven on the way. Good to know I can still have my blue slurpee!! I can't go to any of my other places I traditionally go to when I'm out there so atleast I can keep this one
  2. Ok I know you're already upset, and very rightfully so, but I have to say this women sucks as a friend. I won't repeat what everyone has already said, and I know it's hard to imagine ending a 20 year friendship, but it doesn't sound like she is worth your friendship or tears. You and your kids are not eating gluten free by choice, this is a life neccesity...
  3. I hate to break it to you but I don't think any of those are gluten-free, or the Cheerios you mention in another post. Regardless of how you feel your body is still being damaged.
  4. OMG I'm so excited!!! Ok granted I live in Westchester but I spend a fair amount of time on LI and I usually make special trips to Wantagh to go to Earth Remedies for their rainbow cookies. Now I guess I'll be getting Chinese food too!!! Do you by chance have a sample of dishes you can post?
  5. Just about anytime I'm in Rissoteria I meet someone with Celiac, but that is no suprise. I've definately had the encounters in Whole Foods and Mrs. Greens. And my dad will call me every once in awhile and let me know about someone that came into his restaurant with celiac. Now we are starting a gluten-free menu so I'm sure there will be more to come...
  6. Where it says 2 T of chopped onions; is that tablespoons? And what kind of cheese did you use? Thanks!!
  7. I have been stalking the Whole Foods in White Plains, NY and looked at the one in Union Square (NYC) on Friday and I still can't find them.
  8. I started making this for dinner, and I'm pretty sure it's gluten-free, but was hoping someone could give me a quick answer to confirm that. TIA.
  9. Ughhhh I'm so jealous. They won't deliver to my office. I even tried begging and pleading one Friday afternoon but I'm out of their delivery area. I tried to convince them that it would be quick - only a few subway stops away; but somehow luring them into Times Square didn't seem to be happening (can't imagine why not - lol)!!
  10. Cool. Thanks.
  11. I've been to afraid to go to Coldstone because of how they mix everything on the slab. What if the person before me gets something with Oreos or something? I'll stick with Haagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry's.
  12. Wow so not only does this woman have no understanding of what wheat is but she also didn't win any spelling bees. Someone might want to inform Miss Clark how to spell flour; not flower!
  13. Swanson chicken broth is safe, and San-J Wheat Free Soy Sauce. San-J makes several varieties so make sure to get the Wheat Free one.
  14. How funny, I ate there yesterday! What time were you there? I had the pizza burger, and we can have the fries. The menu isn't huge, but I'm just happy not to have to explain my food to anyone and worry whether they know what they're doing.
  15. I've made both, and they are both incredible!! Everyone that has eaten them has been astonished that they are gluten-free and told me I should start making them to sell. And this is from non-celiac people. Both cakes are just as good or better than any gluten cakes I ever had.
  16. I found the recipe for Junior's Cheesecake online and used that. Instead of their spongecake bottom I ground up gluten-free ginger snap cookies, pecans and mixed with egg and just smooshed that on the bottom of the pan for a crust.
  17. There is an incredible recipe for Yellow Cake in the book by Annalise Roberts, gluten-free Baking Classics. (also where the recipe for the Coconut Cake and Submarine Sandwich bread came from).
  18. The majority of the people I work with know I have celiac. I'm not shy about it and educate people on it all the time. The way she did it was so sweet that it would have been insulting to her to tell her I couldn't eat it. I was happier to just put a sign up offering the goodies to everyone than to embarrass her and make her feel stupid. No one was laughing...
  19. Well I'm a little bias (lol) but they've been in busy for about 40 something years and just about anyone in Westchester knows them and falls all over themseleves when they find out it's my family's so I'll take that as a positive. Hehehe!!
  20. So as some of you may know, my family owns restaurants in Westchester, NY. After I was diagnosed last year and we realized how much of the food I could still eat there we started talking about making a gluten-free menu. Well we did it! They are going to be printing the menus in the next couple weeks and making sure all the staff is very well educated ...
  21. Yeah a lot of people here know I have celiac but she probably doesn't. I don't mind at all, it was a really sweet gesture and everyone that does know has been laughing about it with me everytime they come by my desk for a treat.
  22. So I'm sitting here at work just now and one of the editorial assistants walks up to my desk, smiles and drops off like 4 bags from Starbucks. I look at her puzzled and she just kinda smiles and says, leftover treats. Enjoy!! Ummmm, ok clearly she doesn't know I can't eat any of them. LOL!! I just put up a sign that says, "Starbucks sweets, help yourself...
  23. I actually just moved offices on Monday and am now on Lex & 46th (and we have another entrance on 3rd & 46th). The only thing that I'm happy about this move is Bloom's! I haven't tried it yet, but was planning on it maybe Monday. I'll let you know.
