  1. Nicole--- Oh my gosh, I am so relieved you are ok. Were you in SC when this happened? (and a belated congrats on bf's new jobby job, forgot to post on your other thread). Has the problem been resolved? Do they know what caused this? I think the standard for babies (when you begin to introduce foods) is 3 days. Other than that, I don't have a good...
  2. Found this on YouTube...it is the founder of the NFCA group, talking about her diagnosis with Celiac, on a show. It is a great clip: Here is the Elisabeth Hasselbeck/The View clip: A funny music video that someone made, called "Got Wheat" (about Celiac) (some cursing in it, so not appropriate for youth) All kinds of interesting...
  3. This worries me that medical professionals are giving you incorrect medical information. Either print this info out and bring it to them, or find a new GP/GI that is familiar with this. Not only do you need a GI, you need a GI who knows something about Celiac (two entirely different things!) Often, the best way to find one is to 1. ask on this board or...
  4. Stephanie, I would be confused as well!!! If I were you, I would either call the company directly, or call your pharmacist, and they will 1. either know the answer or 2. contact the company and find out for you themselves. I'm sorry that I don't have a real answer for you! Let us know what you find out. Laura edit: I often use this website, and check...
  5. You will need to continue to eat gluten if you want to have as accurate as testing as possible. However, you could have a problem with gluten that won't show up on tests, so regardless of your Celiac results, it may be worth your while to embark on a strict gluten free diet for a more extended period of time. When you go to the GI, mention that you...
  6. Both my mom and I have them...mine is half used, hers wasn't. I'm taking it back to the store to get reimbursed. (Like I need salmonella on top of my other issues. Sheesh!)
  7. if you were gluten free during the 6 weeks before the biopsy, having a negative biopsy does NOT mean that you do not have Celiac. Your other symptoms could be causing your problems. Your blood tests indicate that you have a problem with gluten. A biopsy can rule IN celiac, but cannot rule it OUT.
  8. chocolate lover: I'm sorry you are having a tough time getting a diagnosis. Yes, your doctor "should" have taken multiple biopsies from multiple sites. Rarely do they do, unfortunately. Having the Celiac genes can tell you that Celiac might be a problem, but not having the Celiac genes doesn't mean that you don't have a non-Celiac problem with gluten...
  9. Ladies: In general, the consensus appears to be that it is undiagnosed/untreated Celiac that increases the risk of other health problems, including fertility issues. The theory is that once you are 100% gluten free and your body has healed, as long as you maintain the diet, your body returns to a normal state. This is the case for most issues, although...
  10. Agreed that the treatment is the same. If you have identified gluten as a problem, you don't *need* a biopsy or anything. Esp if you don't have Celiac (which sounds like a possibility based on your seemingly allergic reactions) an endoscopy won't show anything. Or, you could have Celiac and a gluten/wheat allergy...regardless, treatment is the same...
  11. Happy heart day, full of gluten free delights
  12. giving thankx: Enterolab can NOT diagnose Celiac. It can identify a gluten intolerance, but it is not a Celiac diagnosis.
  13. Buttercream Icing, made on every single cake in my house growing up (never had a storebought cake!) as well as my wedding cake (I asked my mom to make our cake, too---I couldn't have eaten someone else's cake on my big day. Good thing....3 months later, diagnosed with Celiac). But her icing is naturally gluten free. It is from Wilton's recipe. Buttercream...
  14. It is a pre-made crust, already cooked, ready to go....just frozen. I forget how many come in a pack (maybe 2? 4?), and they are not as big as say, like a pre-made boboli (regular) crust. I take it out and thaw it, and then use it like normal. Open Original Shared Link for more info on their products. ingredients for pizza crust: Tapioca Starch,...
  15. Jerry: You could be IgA deficient, which if you have Celiac, could cause problems with testing. You can still be non-Celiac gluten sensitive, which as you know, will never show up on a Celiac tTG test. Laura
  16. I'm sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well In terms of meds, each time I fill a prescription, I ask the pharmacist if it is gluten free----they know that I am a Celiac. Some pharmacies are more familiar with it and have other patients, and keep updated files. Others, or if they are unsure, call the company and find out. I don't pick up...
  17. Hey Betty, If I remember correctly, I think you have access to a Whole Foods? If you haven't tried their Gluten free bakehouse (their store brand) of pizza crusts, I HIGHLY suggest you check it out . I don't know how I lived without it (just moved to a whole foods area this fall). I use it for pizza, cheese sticks, garlic bread, appetizers (veggie...
  18. I would suggest talking about this with your doctor, as they would be the ones making the decision. The test will be sent out (probably to Prometheus Labs), so if they are doing other bloodwork, you could ask if that test could be added. As long as you have a supportive doctor that is aware of your Celiac and your concerns, I would think it would be possible...
  19. There are many companies that state that they will clearly list all gluten ingredients, way beyond Kraft. So if it is one of these companies, in general, you should not worry. This post should help some with companies (esp the first two posts): Open Original Shared Link
  20. You can have the Celiac gene tests done through a blood draw at your doctor's office (they often use Prometheus labs), under the premise that you have Celiac and want to know if it is a possibility for your child at some point. Of course, you will need a good ped that will agree to the testing, but considering that experts recommend that all first degree...
  21. Jerry, I can't offer too much about Dr. Fine's "gluten sensitive genes"....but I will say that I do think it is worth it to know if you have one/both of the Celiac genes. Other labs (that doctors' offices use) test for the Celiac genes (which account for about 98 percent of Celiacs) and I think it is useful to distinguish if Celiac could/couldn't be a problem...
  22. That definitely sounds like a good plan...the houses there are so great. Eric's family gets one, and it makes it so much easier on me, having a kitchen. There is a great restaurant called the Whalebone....we went there the night after he proposed. It is really special to us. I haven't eaten there gluten-free, but it is a nice seafood place. We...
  23. I am bothered by some of Pamela's cookies as well...but for me, I don't know if its a gluten reaction or another reaction (I have multiple issues). I am extremely sensitive and understand your frustrations! I have stopped eating Pamela's cookies. I haven't tried the Lundberg chips though. I am sorry you are having a tough time. Just when we...
  24. Bev, I only tried deboles earlier on, and disliked it, so I haven't eaten it in a long time. however, someone just posted today about lundberg Open Original Shared Link
