  1. Hope you continue to feel better!
  2. (HUGS) I hope it's getting better! I've pretty much given up eating out. Even on vacations, I make sure I have a kitchen. Boring but I haven't been cc'ed by others in well over a year now. I have ordered things like a smoothie and a pumpkin spice latte, but I ask for new or clean equipment each time.... That's all I've eaten out.... Now I feel socially...
  3. 1:640 is pretty high. A positive is usually 1:80 or 1:160; 1:320 is next and then that 1:640. What was your pattern? The speckled one is the least specific and the most likely not to indicate a disease; the other ones can often point in a direction that is more clear. Good luck. I know it's frustrating. I had a lower positive for years (doctors didn...
  4. The genetic tests are sometimes used to indicate whether a person has a higher chance of getting celiac. I don't know much about it, never having it done myself, but I believe the tests are for the DQ2 and DQ8 genes. About 30% of the population has those genes yet only a small percentage of those people will develop celiac disease - it is rare for a person...
  5. At that age, she really doesn't need much soap if at all. A wash cloth would probably get most everything off... That's what we used for wipes too was wet baby wash clothes. How about the water temperature. Maybe the temp bothers her. Good luck. I hope you figure it out.
  6. I agree! Appetite changes in people as they heal. Mine increased initially (with no weight gain) and it has decreased significantly now. The most common nutrients to look into (that celiac disease affects) are calcium magnesium, iron, ferritin, zinc, copper, potassium, A, D, B's (mainly B12). Best wishes.
  7. I was dabbling in ketogenic diet to reduce inflammation and certain hormone levels in my body. I didn't actually commit fully to the diet though; to do that you would need to get your carb levels very low - like a couple of servings of not starchy veggies per day- and really increase your fat intake. Most types of fat are fine except for the artificial hydrogenated...
  8. ((HUGS)) How is your thyroid? Hypothyroidism can slow one's metabolism by over 15% (I believe that was the number I read but I can't for the life of me find the reference). I was hypo for 15 years, during which time I felt slow, tired easily and tended to consume caffeine and extra calories in a bid to boost my energy levels... it didn't work. If you...
  9. Oh, that's a pain that your ex isn't on board. There have been a few parents who have had to deal with that around here over the last year or so. If you check in the part of the forum that deals with treating children (or just do a search for it in the forum) you'll probably find some similar stories... Same thing with a positive ttG IgG test; if you do...
  10. 1 in 1000000, you're special. The version of lactate dehydrogenase made of four lactate dehydrogenase-A subunits is found primarily in skeletal muscles, which are muscles used for movement. Skeletal muscles need large amounts of energy during high-intensity physical activity when the body's oxygen intake is not sufficient for the amount of energy required...
  11. Wow... that's nuts!
  12. I generally talk to the family and tell them that I will be sending along brownies for everyone and some goodies. I generally word it in a way that is not asking, I TELL them I'll be sending food. LOL I also joke about how we are difficult to feed so it's simpler this way, and then the kids still get to enjoy each other... stuff like that. I have sent...
  13. I had a lot of hair loss... hated it! I too had pretty severe thinning over my temples and then it would grow in wispy. Yuck. I also developed some bald patches on my crown, and my part is much too wide.... BUT it did improve going gluten-free, and it is improving after my thyroid was treated to proper hormone levels. I find that I still have some sort of...
  14. Yikes! If you can gently educate her about celiac disease, I am sure hundreds of future customers will be grateful! Seriously though, I would try to correct her.... gently. Good luck!
  15. I didn't even know what LDH was. I had to google it. LOL Lab Tests Online says a low LDH can be caused by large amounts of acsorbic acid (vit C) - is that you? Open Original Shared Link I've had high B12 in the past too. I generally exceed the norm or am at the upper limit... No idea why. Geepers, I'm no help!
  16. $2?! Wow! Up here Chex is more like $6. Hope your food is yummy.
  17. That's great that you started noticing improvements after only a couple of weeks gluten-free; it takes months for some people to feel better. Best wishes.
  18. Oh oops, I did quote the tTG IgA specificity instead of tTG IgG specificity, didn't I? Sorry about that. Yep, it is a more rarely positive test. I think that is partially because IgA is based in the mucosal linings, like in the gut, whereas the IgG is throughout the body, and not as location specific. Plus the tTG IgG isn't as good of a test - I found...
  19. I was a life long "C" sufferer myself. I honestly didn't realize I had C because it was my norm.. LOL My C did not improve around until I was gluten-free for about 8-9 months BUT I think it had more to do with the fact that I was getting closer to my ideal hormone dose to treat my hypothyroidism. Unfortunately I was normal for just a few months and...
  20. I think Gemini could be right that the sign is a turn-off, plus I think it wouldn't be that effective as most people are doing a meet and greet at the door and busy hanging up jackets and such. My opinion that a verbal reminder before people come over and as they come in, should be enough. Once poeple are good at it, a complement along the lines of :"I appreciate...
  21. I was going to say the same thing. Your TSH could be a bit high. Perhaps also ask to have your Free T4 and Free T3 checked; both should be in the 50-75% range of your lab's normal reference range. I was quite hypo when my TSH was near yours and my FT4 and FT3 were in the bottom 15% of my lab's range. Your celiac disease tests look normal. Are you having...
  22. Those are definitely celiac symptoms...If you are finding it tough to get tested, I've heard it's difficult out east, you could always try a Biocard home test. It is the tTG IgA tests and total serum IgA. If you get a positive result, perhaps you could bring that to the doctor to speed thing along? You might want to get your thyroid checked too. My hypothyroidism...
  23. I have found it depends on the doctor as well. I had a high tTG IgA and a positive EMA test; those two are pretty specific for celiac disease so we stopped with that and skipped the endoscopy. I'm diagnosed as a celiac anyways. Up here, doctors will only run the tTG IgA test. My kids were negative on that but had a great response to the gluten-free diet...
  24. Welcome to the board. Did the doctors run an IgA (immunoglobulin A) control test too? About 1/20 celiacs are low in IgA so they will not make enough IgA for accurate IgA based tests (tTG IgA, EMA IgA and DGP IgA) so those tests will almost always end up as a false negative. I mention that because only the tTG IgG was positive. It's not unusual to have...
