After a year, it won't taste the same anyways. Soooo not worth it. Think icecream or m&m's or caramel popcorn or nachos with salsa, cheese and guacamole. Who needs the wheat!!

ARCHIVED Need Help With Tests Results Please
nvsmom replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Shelley Case (Gluten-Free Diet) mentions the symptoms and tests here: Open Original Shared Link This article discusses "c" in the clinical presentations, as well as the various tests, but the author is largely pointing out that blood tests can make the endoscopy unnecessary. Open Original Shared Link This site discusses lab tests: Open Original... -
ARCHIVED I Immediately Think Every Symptom Is Caused From Gluten...
nvsmom replied to Happyw5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think I became obsessed... I saw the symptoms more often in people but I could be right. Right? I saw GI symptoms in 2/3 of my kids. I made them gluten-free and those symptoms have largely improved. I think the only way to know if your kids are celiac is to test them, and likewise the only way to know if they are non-celiac gluten interant is... -
ARCHIVED Hypocholesterolemia - A.k.a. Really Low Cholesterol
nvsmom posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi all. I was going through my recent medical records in an effort to better manage my hypothyroidism (not going great yet but getting better...at this point, I think the gluten-free diet is easier for me to manage than hashi's ). My hormone levels aren't responding to thyroid hormone therapy like I think they should so I started going through my other... -
ARCHIVED My 8 Year Old Symptoms, Testing, Needs Advice
nvsmom replied to Worried mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter sounds like a combination of my fiveand ten year old sons. My youngest would often go go bathroom 5 to 8 times a day; I know this for a fact since he is still at an age where he requires some assistance with wiping. He didn't get stomach aches often but my 10 year old did frequently. My oldest usually got his stomach aches while eating, vomitted... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here - Dr. Thinks It Is Celiac Disease
nvsmom replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lisa gives great advice. The upper endoscopy is how many celiacs are diagnosed, besides the blood tests she listed. I think a minimum of eight biopsies is recommended for accurate testing. For the blood tests, if you are eating gluten at all, even periodically, I would request getting those labs done this week; the longer you are off gluten, the more likely... -

I believe that is your total serum IgA, and it looks good to me. I think you've tested positive... Bloating and constipation, along with stomach aches were my main symptoms ... I thought. A few other things resolved (like my migraines) after going gluten-free. If you start on the gluten-free diet, you might be pleasantly surprised by how your health improves... -
(Hashimoto's) Thyroiditis can cause some of the symptoms you listed as your hormones swing from hyper to hypothyroidism. It could be worth checking out...beyond the food issues. Best wishes.

Oooh! Me too! I fell below the normal range for our labs... no idea why, and my doctor is clueless too.

ARCHIVED Just A Few Questions!
nvsmom replied to mackahroni's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just be careful if you are working around others who are using wheat flour; if they dump in their flour a little forcefully then POOF - There's a flour cloud for you to ingest. I'd wear a face mask if you are working around it at all. Best wishes. -
ARCHIVED To Go Full Out Or Not - Guten Sensitivity And The Fear Of Making It Worse
nvsmom replied to giggleburger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too thought I might be gluten intolerant before I tested for celiac disease too... turns out I actually had celiac disease... You'll never know until you are tested if you are a celiac or not. I haven't read all the posts, so I'll ask: Is there any reason you don't want to be tested? If not, do it now while you are still eating gluten so you'll have... -
ARCHIVED Mom Never Told Me I Was A Sick Baby...
nvsmom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
((Hugs)) I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Best wishes to you. I think you may be right. It's a shame celiac disease wasn't well known a few decades ago... I guess there are benefits to having the latest "trendy" disease; it's easier to identify it. Take care. -
ARCHIVED Do I Have A Gluten Intolerance?
nvsmom replied to anonymous-123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't see anything in your tacos that had gluten in it. Perhaps the spices were bothering your inflamed gut? It's possible that your trial of gluten-free eating caused a false negative on the celiac test. I think it is also possible that you suffer from Non-celiac Gluten Intolerance, which in my opinion seems worse because you have all of the same... -
ARCHIVED So Maybe I Am Gi Or Celiac? Maybe I'm Not....
nvsmom replied to maybe-maybenot's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you are not feeling well, it can really wear you down. Ynot is right in suggesting the sublingual B12 tablet. B12 is best absorbed in the mouth; that goes for D3 vitamins too. I take 1000-4000UI of sublingual D3 throughout the day. It's a good idea to take calcium a few times a day along with the D3 because a body can only absorb a certain amount... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Suppliments-How Much?
nvsmom replied to 1974girl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We do 1000-2000 UI per day in supplements on top of whatever is in the food and multivitamin. We're in Canada so I KNOW thery're not making any D now. LOL Sublingual D3 tablets, or D3 drops, are usually the best way to go because the D is better absorbed from your mouth than your gut. This is generally true for vitamin B12 and zinc as well. Best wishes... -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Received -- Endoscopy Or Not?
nvsmom replied to clafran's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would say if the endoscopy will help with your denial, then get it done but be aware that there is a chance that they will miss damaged areas if your intestinal damage is not yet excessive. The intestines have a really large surface area so if the damage is patchy, and the endo doesn't take enough samples (or isn't lucky) there is a chance that you'll end... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
nvsmom replied to Sasha87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mushroom gave you great info. I just wanted to add that my youngest son, who tested negative for celiac, used to have to run to the bathroom during every meal, as well as a few more times during the day. Going gluten-free has almost entirely cured him of that after a couple of months. Good luck with your testing. Remember to keep eating gluten until... -
I personally felt really poor the first few weeks gluten free. Really poor. I think it was a withdrawl of sorts. It took awhile before I felt good. Hang in there. Many folks around here didn't feel better for months, or even years, depending on how their body heals. Patience seems to be a big factor when dealing with recovery, Best wishes.

ARCHIVED Can A Glutening Cause Water Retention?
nvsmom replied to smpalesh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I lost 15 lbs after going gluten-free without eating any less. In fact I ate more treats to prove to myself I wasn't being deprived of anything. I'm certain it wasn't fat I lost (darn it) but was bloat and water; I could see a real difference in my face and midsection, not to mention my ankles. I believe gluttening could cause water retention... but I... -
ARCHIVED When To Start Gluten Free Diet?
nvsmom replied to jamer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with the advice that the others gave you: unless you are waiting to dofurther celiac testing, I can't understand why you should wait to go gluten-free. There's nothing risking about going gluten-free except you might consume more sugar if you choose to buy substitute baked items rather that eating more whole foods, otherwise it's a perfectly healthy... -

ARCHIVED I Feel Incredible, Whats Going On? Advice
nvsmom replied to houdini's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the others, get tested while you are eating gluten. It's a good time to do it. I'll be the doom and gloom... I am pretty sure that I have had celiac my entire life but I did not feel sick my entire life. I had years where I was lifting heavy weights and had energy (minimal gut issues), and there was another year where I was in marathon... -
ARCHIVED Iga Test High
nvsmom replied to langone7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
TTG IgA usually correlates to celiac but it can indicate other autoimmune diseases like diabetes, autoimmune hepatitis, and thyroid issues. A positive ttg IGA is usually from celiac disease though. I don't beilieve it correlates to a dairy problem, but celiacs are often lactose intolerant. When I was tested for celiac, they did not test for other food... -
ARCHIVED Lots Of Symptoms, Can't Eat At All!
nvsmom replied to Nick1857's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh geez... that sounds awful. I hope your appointment goes well with the gastro... with symptoms that bad, it needs fixing fast. My advice would be to try and eat only whole foods (nothing processed), try an probiotic (or a bunch), and perhaps try L-glutamine for healing and nettel tea for inflammation. Ibuprofen takes away som pain and can reduce...
