  1. That 5 is really good! I can't get there with lots of veggies - yet. That 3.8 of mine was the lowest ever. Plus I had been for a walk the night before so that probably helped. Usually I am a 4.4 to a 4.8. I get 5's once week. About a week ago I had "higher carb" day at about 60 g (onions and green beans at dinner) and my fasting BG was back...
  2. I would declare her a celiac and live gluten-free too. You and her dad should be tested every couple of years too.
  3. 30% of everyone on Earth has the DQ2 and / or the DQ8 genes but less than 1 % of the world has celiac disease. Of that <1%, 97% of the celiacs have the DQ2 or DQ8 genes. If my math is approximately right, that means that about 2-3% of that 30% will have celiac disease. Chances are low, statistically speaking. As a mom of children who have a gluten...
  4. Thanks. Yeah, I've been slowly leaving the keto flu behind. My total carbs is usually between 20 and 30 except for a couple of blips. I bought those keto stix and they say I'm usually in small to moderate ketosis. Looks good so far. This morning my fasting BG was 3.8! I've NEVER been that low. Ever! And I felt perfectly fine too. I bet adding...
  5. I would pursue it. Look into the biopsy. Also, request the newer deaminated gliadin peptides tests (DGP IgA and DGP IgG). I'm assuming you ahd the ant-gliadin antibodies tests done, and they generally are not as specific or sensitive tests. If that was the DGP IgG test, then you almost surely have celiac disease. The DGP IgG tests is one of the most specific...
  6. I'm glad you figured it out! It's frustrating when recovery takes longer than it could have. I hope this turns things around for you, quickly.
  7. I hope you get through that withdrawal quickly this time. I only did it once so I can't comment on what is normal here. Welcome to the board... officially!
  8. I'm similar. I got a lot of joint pain that would flare-up with a sore throat and mouth sores, fatigue, hair loss, and even postural hypotension. I would get the sudden pain, lasting 3-20 seconds, but it was usually when my intestines were trying to prepare for a BM. I was constipated my entire life without realizing it because I usually went every day...
  9. Keto is working for me. I've cut calories to about 1700, and am in ketosis. I am most of the way through the adaption phase but I think I'll feel even better in a few more weeks. So far so good. I feel less foggy, which is crazy since I didn't think I was foggy before, and I can concentrate and absorb information better... pretty cool. My arthritis...
  10. Toddlers are the hardest to test accurately, but you can test at any time. If there is a negative test but you suspect celiac disease yet continue consuming gluten, you should retest every two years for his entire life. Celiac can manifest at any time.
  11. I agree. Generally a positive is a positive. The tTG IgA is about 95% specific to celiac disease, which means you have a 5% of it being a false positive... Realistically your chances are lower because the false positives are usualy very weakly negative (like a 15.2 and not 30% above the upper normal limit like yours is). Plus those false positives are caused...
  12. Ditto. That's no to both questions. I had C my entire life and only had loose stools if I had an extreme stomach bug. Get tested if you suspect celiac disease.
  13. Up in Canada, they won't let a celiac but once you are in, you are in. If you later find out you are a celiac while already enlisted, they keep you but you may be shuffled around. I think.
  14. Ditto. If your disease is not too advanced, the EMA IgA will appear negative for many people. The test is very similar to the tTG IgA, of which you were over double the normal limit. The reticulin tests are quite old and rarely used anymore because the newer tests of tTG are more reliable. The (anti-) gliadin antobodies tests (AGA IgA and AGA IgG...
  15. Once you are ready to share results, post it in the prediagnosis section. I can't help a lot with biopsies - I haven't read up on them much.
  16. The total bilirubin and CRP are both normal. Total bilirubin had a normal range of less than 18 (<18) so the 8 is fine. The CRP's normal range is below 20 (<20) and the result was an 11 so that looked fine too. The Immunoglobulins are the "Ig" of IgA, IgG, IgM, and IgE. Serum just means blood. Each immunoglobulin is involved in a different...
  17. I like to refer to this report when discussing test reliability: Open Original Shared Link On page 12 it shows the sensitivity of the EMA IgA and tTG IgA, which is the likelihood of the disease being caught by the test. Both tests can miss up to 25% of celiacs with a sensitivity of 75-100% and 75-95%. They are pretty good tests for most celiacs. The...
  18. In general, if you recognize an ingredient without a degree in chemistry, it is probably healthier than the chemicals. Highly processed foods should not be the basis of anyone's diet (darn it ). For me, I had to cut apples pears and most dairy but other foods were fine. Others have issues with other foods like soy or corn. Beyond gluten, and lactose...
  19. Listen to Squirmingitch - she is our resident expert. She really knows her dh stuff! I don't know as much so I'll just wish you luck on finding answers fast.... and welcome to the board.
  20. When I first went gluten-free I lost about 10 lbs without doing a thing because of the inflammation departing. I got down to about 150lbs, which for a large framed 5'8" woman, isn't bad. Then about a year and a half ago I started gaining weight. I blamed it on the corticosteroids I had started but it continued after I stopped taking them. My guess is...
  21. A bunch of studies came out a while ago (a few months back) about how breastfeeding does not protect against celiac disease. Apparently that was a myth that they think they have debunked. I think the only way BF'ing protects against celiac disease is that the baby is not given formula that could have wheat in it. Plus, it is thought , by some, that...
  22. Ditto. Good luck. Let us know what happens.
  23. Poison Ivy in the blood stream??? Seriously!? Good luck with the appointment.
  24. So they ran the DGP IgG, tTG IgG and EMA IgG tests and they were negative? Because you are low in IgA, all IgA based celiac tests will be negative even if you are a celiac. The tTG IgA, DGP IgA, and EMA IgA would be useless for someone who is IgA deficient. If those first three tests I mentioned were done and they were negative, you are probably...
