ARCHIVED Rice Chex?!?!
elonwy replied to runnerkat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hrm. that sucks. I can't eat anything made on shared lines without getting sick, so if thats the issue, then I'll know as soon as I try my first bowl, once it gets to the west coast. You also state that you've been gluten-free only a couple weeks. It can take a long time to get back to normal. Also, if I get accidentally glutened, everything bugs me for a... -
ARCHIVED Rice Chex?!?!
elonwy replied to runnerkat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you actually have the new Rice Chex? I haven't seen the newly formulated gluten-free ones on shelves yet. The ones that are Gluten Free actually say so on the box and don't have barley malt listed. Just checking. -
ARCHIVED Signicant Other Leaving You...
elonwy replied to polishmafia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ahh yeah. Dating. I was with a wonderful guy when I got diagnosed. He helped me through the sickness, the getting better, the learning how to cope. We were together 2.5 years and then he told me he didn't want to have kids with me cause of Celiac. He didn't want to have to deal with that in his kids. ...... Not anything a woman ever wants to hear. I had... -
ARCHIVED Olive Oil
elonwy replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Star Olive Oil. I get the extra virgin as well. I also use it for making popcorn, gives it a lovely nutty flavor. -
I haven't licked an envelope since I got a paper cut on my tongue. I am fan of those sponge moistener things for envelopes. Especially with that many, gluten or no, you're ingesting glue. The other thing I will do is moisten my finger with spit (say if I'm out at the ATM) and then rub it on the glue. If I need more spit, I use another finger. Licking an envelope...

ARCHIVED Nos Energy Drink
elonwy replied to Piesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No problem. It took me like three days to track down someone at the company, but they verified the ingredients are gluten-free. I'm incredibly sensitive too, and have never reacted to it. -

It's gluten-free! And Delicious. -
ARCHIVED Vodka?
elonwy replied to cpicini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The distillation process gets rid of the gluten, so distilled alcohol ie: vodka, is safe. Some of the flavored ones are under suspicion. That being said, if you want to avoid grain alcohols, there are some fabu Potato Vodkas out there. Blue Ice is from Idaho, and is readily available. Chopin is from Poland and is by far my fav Vodka. Grand Teton is a US... -
ARCHIVED A Question On Your Experience With Celic Disease / Gluten Intolerance
elonwy replied to CDGuy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1) How did the symptoms of gluten intolerance affect your day-to-day life? I was exhausted all the time, I'd get migraines that would knock me out for days at a time, my stomach was always upset, I was gassy to the point of public embarrassment. I had huge dark circles under my eyes that never went away. I couldn't gain weight. I was severely depressed... -
ARCHIVED Las Vegas - Staying In New York New York Hotel
elonwy replied to jo-england's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Nine Fine Irishmen in NY-NY has a gluten-free menu. Call them and talk to the manager before you go in, and he will make sure you get served right. They also have Magners on tap there (gluten-free cider). Rainforest Cafe acted like they had no idea what gluten-free was when I went there, but it was for breakfast, so maybe just that staff? They finally... -
ARCHIVED Airlines And Gluten Free Meals
elonwy replied to lesleyag's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've only ever dealt with Continental on the in-flight meal, as most of my flights are domestic, so don't rate food. Also being allergic to eggs, my breakfast meal was a wash, though I enjoyed the gluten-free bread I got with both meals. It was individually packaged with ingredients, so I could be sure it was gluten-free. I fly to NY a bit, and eat the Terra... -
ARCHIVED Can We Start A Corn Intolerance Support Thread?
elonwy replied to emcmaster's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I need help too. we had figured out my BF was gluten intolerant, and then his allergy tests came back. He's allergic to: Wheat Oats Corn Soy Peanuts The one thing he always though the was allergic to, Dairy he's fine with. I'm gluten intolerant and allergic to eggs, but the corn and soy issues are overwhelming me. Are there baking mixes and things... -
I am also looking to travel there. Was supposed to be next spring, but now it looks like I'll be postponing it for another year. Please give an update if you go.

ARCHIVED Anybody Heard Of Zonulin?
elonwy replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The study guidelines for this phase an non-specific as to how you've been diagnosed. I believe as long as its "official" you're good. They were much more specific in phase one. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Heard Of Zonulin?
elonwy replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since I'm in the midst of recovering from an In and Out glutening, after having them go back remake my burger while I watched, I would give pretty much anything for a prophylactic drug for cross contamination issues. The phase II trials are going well, and the drug is being fast-tracked by the FDA. I do not see this as "Oh I can have gluten" but as a way... -
ARCHIVED Support Group In East Bay California?
elonwy replied to TupsGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm not sure if there is a support group exactly, but there is a bay area gluten-free Dining group and a yahoo group. I'm in the East Bay as well. There are many options. Did you know there is gluten-free pizza at Cafe Rustica in Rockridge? Its awesome! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Feel free to PM me as well. Elonwy -
I have the same thing. I can't eat eggs straight but can eat things with some eggs in them, liked baked goods. I don't test positive to egg allergy. I get horrible stomach cramps and constipation that last for most of a day. Its more painful than gluten actually.

ARCHIVED Trader Joe's- Unofficial Poll
elonwy replied to confusedks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have reacted to a couple of TJ's things that were made on shared lines (a guac mix and something else). I now avoid anything from Tj's that says shared lines. I am very sensitive, and I am also a bit more careful than many that I know, because when I get sick it takes a long time for me to get better. I used to be a bit more blase about the shared lines... -
Trix being gluten-free is relatively new. It used to have wheat starch in it. I would read the label every time you buy it, they have a tendency to change ingredients without the "all new" warning.
-
I also avoid the sauce unless I mix it. They do use the same spoons to mix, I've had them do that at a table where I was the only gluten-free person. I love the lettuce wraps. You can tell they are gluten-free because they are lighter in color than the regular ones, but the crispies on the side it also a good idea. I adore the street noodles and the changs...

Oh awesome. Have a great time! Would also love a gluten-free report, as I'll be going there in November for two weeks. -
ARCHIVED Work Environment And Celiac Disease
elonwy replied to greatdanesasha's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it is regarding something that *may* become a harrasment issue, you have the right to talk to your HR person directly. I am in a satellite office as well, where we have no "official" HR person, and so I often have to contact the main office in order to resolve things more complicated that turning in a time sheet or figuring out sick time. They may want... -
ARCHIVED Chocoholics There Is Hope
elonwy replied to Deanne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have yet to find a Lindt product WITHOUT malt in it. Sharffenberger is amazing. Hershey's just isn't trustworthy at this point. They change their policy too often for my liking, and I have gotten sick from things that should not have gluten in them (I do not have dairy issues). Dove chocolate is awesome. I had thought Ghiradelli was not safe, according... -
ARCHIVED What Does Inconlusive Biospy Mean?
elonwy replied to SpikeMoore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My biopsy was "inconclusive". The reason written on the from my GI was that there was no "gross flattening of the vilii" which basically meant that there were some areas of his samples that were showing some slight flattening but nothing extreme. I went on the diet the day after I got home from the biopsy, and by the time I had my results back it was two...
