  1. Liquor is fine - Lauren (who always hated beer anyway!)
  2. I think that everyone has suggested GREAT ideas... but I'm just curious lorka, what exactly are you planning to do? The reason I ask is not sheer nosiness; this kind of thing is right up my alley (Communications major, PR experience, love public speaking, etc.) and I literally got excited just reading this topic. Soooo, if you're thinking of putting...
  3. I second that I loved that cereal, what was wrong with it the way it was??? Maybe we should start a campaign to bring it back as gluten-free. - Lauren
  4. Aw, lucky you, my TJ's never has the ryeless rye! I've never looked at their prices on the Food For Life bread, but it's always just out on the shelf with the regular bread. I always thought it needed to be frozen; do you think it's OK? I usually make my own bread, but I like to have one of the FFL loaves in the freezer as a back up! - Lauren
  5. Wow, congrats on the successful trip! I don't know what you did right (or I did wrong?) but when I spent a week and a half in Acapulco, Mexico, I had never been so sick in my life. At one point, I just stopped eating anything, other than the Envirokids bars and jar of PB I brought, even though the meals were part of my (all-inclusive) package. - Lauren
  6. Chrissy, I hope this doesn't come off as sounding strange, but I think about and pray for your daughter everyday. As I've said before, I suffered from disordered eating (brought on by my health complications due to Celiac) and spent a couple of months in a treatment center, so I definitely sympathize. I don't know where Tianna is hospitalized...
  7. Mmmm I love Bush's vegetarian baked beans! I add Tofu Pups and I have myself beans and hot dogs. Also, Wegman's brand is gluten-free, not sure if you have one around you but I've recently become obsessed with that place. The Wegman brand is so cheap, plus they clearly mark things as gluten-free if they are. - Lauren
  8. OK I trust Patti, so I'll post the recipe Again, it's from "Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free Cookbook for Kids and Busy Adults" by Connie Sarros, and I recommend it, as a "busy adult." Pineapple coconut muffins - 2 eggs - 1 c. gluten-free flour mix - 6 Tbsp pineapple preserves - 1 Tbsp corn oil - 1 c. sugar - 2 tsp vanilla - 1 Tbsp mayo ...
  9. I am by no means an expert cook. Added to that is the fact that I don't have the attention span to spend a long time whipping up something, but I'm really sick of paying top dollar for gluten-free baked products. So I decided to buy "Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free Cookbook for Kids and Busy Adults" by Connie Sarros. Yesterday I made her pinapple coconut muffins...
  10. Peanut butter + raisins Peanut butter + sliced banana Peanut butter + jelly Peanut butter + "fluff" CF "cream cheese" + jelly Salsa Hummus (um, can you tell I like PB?) - Lauren
  11. I do it! I've been a vegetarian since I was 4 years old. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease when I was 21. By then, it was a part of who I am and I wasn't about to start eating meat. I had to start getting a little more creative with food, and opening myself up to things I had never tried before. I eat lots of tofu (can be cooked/prepared in many different...
  12. Whaaat did I hear "white chocolate M&Ms"?? Do they exist?? - Lauren
  13. I just made a loaf of that bread on my Zoj last week. I used the medium setting, white bread. It turned out just fine. I'm not sure if we have the same model, but mine is the Home Bakery Supreme BBCC-X20. The cycle I used takes 3.5 hours. Enjoy, I love my Zoj, but I prefer the Manna from Anna mix to the gluten-free Pantry one. GFP is easier to get your...
  14. I'm a graduate student, so things may be a bit different. However, my school (Drexel Univ) was very understanding when I had to take a medical leave of absence. It was mid-way through the semester, so I received "Incompletes" in my courses and worked one-on-one w/the professors to figure out what I needed to do to receive an actual grade in the class. ...
  15. I've got some from Cream Hill that I'm going to give a try. I'll let you know how it goes! - Lauren (aka the guinea pig)
  16. Hugs to you, I firmly believe you're doing the right thing. What is the name of the treatment center? - Lauren
  17. Health Valley makes a Rice Bran cracker that tastes like a graham cracker. I PROMISE, the name makes it sound gross, but they're really good! I've seen them at most every regular grocery store, and some health food stores, too. - Lauren
  18. Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of Lynne Truss, author of "Eats, Shoots & Leaves," a great and really funny book about grammar. So when I saw her next book, "Talk to the Hand," in the Library, I decided to give it a read. FYI: this book is not about grammar, but rather manners (or lack of) in our society - the subtitle is "The Utter Bloody...
  19. THANK YOU! Your support means so much to me! - Lauren
  20. Yup! The Center for Celiac Research- Open Original Shared Link Dr. Fasano is the one working on the drug that will hopefully enable us to eat whatever we want! He is great - probably one of the most well-respected international authorities on celiac disease. - Lauren
  21. I PROMISE this is the last time I'll bump this and ask for your help, thanks - you guys are the BEST! Open Original Shared Link - Lauren
  22. My hometown (Gettysburg) is in south-Central PA as well. For me, it is worth the drive to see Dr. Fasano at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. I went to Hershey and didn't have a positive experience. I liked my GI doctor as an individual, but she just didn't know enough at ALL about celiac disease. (Must note though, she was not the doctor...
  23. My response when someone points out how SKINNY I am: It is not socially acceptable to point out that someone is OVERWEIGHT, so why would you think it's okay to point out the fact that I'm underweight? It actually hurts my feelings, just like it would hurt someone's feelings to point out that he or she was "fat." I appreciate your concern, and I'm working...
  24. Thank you SO much, Armetta!! Good luck to you Molly. Thank you everyone for your support! - Lauren Open Original Shared Link
  25. Thanks! Considering just over a year ago I wasn't even physically able, I feel lucky to participate in the walk this year! Come on guys, help me out! - Lauren
