I used to have a bread machine long before I was diagnosed, but gluten free breads do not need all that kneading. Basically, mix, rise and bake. Experiment using a few gluten free recipes you can find online or in a gluten-free cookbook. You just need mixing bowl, a strong arm (or electric mixer), a loaf pan, and a little time for rising. Easy to do...

Ellebelle91, It was great that celiac disease was ruled out for now. A NCGI diagnosis does not mean that you can never develop celiac disease in the future unless you also lack the genes (but genetic tests are not perfect either and that is another story). It is unfortunate that there is no specific testing yet for NCGI, other than to rule out celiac...

Many celiacs are temporarily lactose intolerant (forever if you have the genetic make-up). Your toddler’s symptoms can possibly be more tolerable, if you eliminate all dairy until the endoscopy and then maybe for a few weeks after. It would be worth a try! Hope things improve. Two weeks feels like forever, but it will be over soon! ?

Weight
cyclinglady replied to Joelski's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your BMI is in the normal range. Maybe this is where your body wants to be “normal”. With some 2/3 of the population now considered overweight or obese, it is easy to think that is normal! Congratulations on your low TTG. Sounds like you are doing everything right. You did not complain of symptoms, so again, it sounds like you have greatly improved. K... -
Celiac disease can affect many parts of the body. There are over 200 known symptoms, but unfortunately they can overlap with many other AI issues or other illnesses. Best to get tested. Keep eating gluten and ask your doctor for a celiac blood test. Learn more: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/ To answer your question, I had a non...

Halloween
cyclinglady replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I pass out Smarties at Halloween because I get over 500 Trick or Treaters at my house (the next block over gets 1,000). I am in the US, so they are gluten free. Tootsie products (Tootie Rolls and suckers, etc. located in Chicago) are gluten free and do not melt. Critical when it is over 100 degrees! That would include military international locations... -
Bigelow tea
cyclinglady replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If it actually says gluten free and that statement correlates with the ingredient list, then it should be safe. I would drink it. It sound refreshing because it is 101 degrees right now! ?? -
Who is the customer here? Unless you have government healthcare, you are in charge. Don’t like your doctor? Shop for another one. Stand up for your rights! Yep, I saw this. Thanks for posting Karen! I allow “gluten-free” Cheerios in my house for my kid who does NOT have celiac disease. But hubby and I do not eat them for a variety of reasons. When in doubt, do not eat it has been my motto ever since I questioned the safety of mayonnaise found in my roommate’s refrigerator some 30 years ago. My Da...

Gluten or dairy...or in my head
cyclinglady replied to larann78's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is more information about celiac testing: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/ You can not go by symptoms alone because there are over 200 of them that often overlap with other autoimmune disorders or illnesses. Testing is best before even considering the gluten free diet. -
Wow! I am sorry that you are sick! My friend’s Dad had this disorder. He became much better after treatment. Like celiac disease, it takes....T I M E! Ugh! So, there is hope! ?

Where are you buying this product? Your previous posting indicated that you are not in the USA. Labeling laws can be different depending on where you live. In any case, as a newly diagnosed celiac or NCGI, you should avoid foods processed foods until you feel better. Use fresh onions for now. Recovery from celiac disease takes time. You...

If you are going to get retested, ask for the complete celiac panel (EMA, TTG and DGP — both IgA and IgG versions. Why? I am one of the oddballs who has never tested positive (even in follow-up) on the popular and most commonly ordered TTG. If my GI had not ordered the complete panel, my diagnosis would not have been made. I had a positive on t...

Potential false diagnosis of Celiac
cyclinglady replied to JosephK116's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cheetah, We all have to make our own health decisions based on our individual circumstances. There is not any “one size fits all” approach. ☹️In your daughter’s case, she was asymptomatic. I also would find it hard to believe that she had celiac disease despite confirmed biopsies and antibodies tests. I get the denial. I just had anemia that was ...- 18 replies

Read this about the benefits of having a celiac disease diagnosis. It is written for doctors, but it is very useful. https://www.ueg.eu/education/latest-news/article/article/mistakes-in-coeliac-disease-diagnosis-and-how-to-avoid-them/

The stool and saliva test are not considered to be valid by mainstream medical. Helpful tools, but again, not recognized by the GI Association. You need to be on a gluten diet for 8 to 12 weeks prior and then ask your endo or PCP for a celiac blood panel. KarenG gave you a link that explains the testing. I certainly sounds like you should do the...

Wow! Good for your daughter asking if the medication was gluten free. She might not be lactose intolerant at all. It is the one intolerance that is most common among celiacs. Just stay the course. It just takes time. Each individual is different as to how they heal. Kids are supposed to heal faster. Will the GI recheck her antibodies...

Potential false diagnosis of Celiac
cyclinglady replied to JosephK116's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Why? Some 35% of the population carries the genes that could develop into celiac disease. But only a few actually develop it. It is used to exclude celiac disease and not to diagnose it. There are some outlier genes too that have been discovered recently, so the gene test is not perfect. My daughter has tested negative on the antibodies test. ...- 18 replies

It will turn around, but it probably is going to take more time. Yes, adhering to the gluten-free diet is critical, but what doctors fail to tell you is that is can take time for antibodies to decrease. For some it is a few weeks and for others months to years. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Remember, her gut is damaged and eating...

What vitamins or supplements?
cyclinglady replied to Binti1962's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can be safe with just a general multivitamin. Look for one that is gluten free. Read our Newie 101 thread located under the “Coping” section of the forum for tips. Browse through Celiac.com for more ideas. Food is till the best source for vitamins and minerals, but sometime supplementation is needed. I do not take any (took iron when I was... -
Potential false diagnosis of Celiac
cyclinglady replied to JosephK116's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey Joseph! You might re-think that gluten-free oatmeal. For years, oatmeal was prohibited. Researchers eventually determined that some celiacs could have oatmeal as long as it is pure (no possibility of cross contamination from field to factory). But some 10% of celiacs still react to oatmeal. Plus, there is a new controversy over sorted vs...- 18 replies
