  1. When were you diagnosed? It sounds like you are also struggling with food intolerances that may imrove when you are healed. Avoid processed foods. Avoid foods that are hard to digest even when your gut is not damaged (e.g. Beans).
  2. I think you need to read this: https://www.celiac.com/articles/21567/1/Ten-Facts-About-Celiac-Disease-Genetic-Testing/Page1.html The above article discusses the fact that it is really hard for many doctors to interpret genetic test results and that some labs do not run the full test. and.... 3. Here is some information on the topic of histamine intolerance and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. This blogger is also a member of Celiac.com (Jebby). She is a Neonatologist (premie baby doctor) who has celiac disease and four kids. Open Original Shared Link I hope you figure it out. I have a healthy 15 year old and I would hate for her to...
  4. Parents, have you looked into a Histamine Intolerance as Gotta Ski discussed? I know it is considered "new" here in the US. (SIBO is more accepted in the US and HI is more accepted in Europe.) I had been gluten-free for 2 1/2 years when I was glutened badly. I was only anemic when I was first diagnosed. After my glutening experience (confirmed...
  5. How can you say that the TTg was only slightly elevated at a 10 when the top of the range is a 2? The gene test just helps to rule out celiac disease, but the researchers are finding other genes linked to celiac disease. Consider a full celiac panel. The cost is around $450 USD. I personally test negative on the TTG tests. Only the DGP iga is...
  6. Were you gluten free when you had the endoscopy? Just wondering why you are gobbling up gluten for an antibodies test. You would think they would have tested you the day you had the endoscopy (if they suspected celiac disease) or at least had you do it a few days later. If you had been gluten free, most GI celiac-savvy, doctors require 2 to 3 months...
  7. Welcome to the forum! Yep, celiac disease can affect your brain! In my case, celiac disease, perimenopause, and an unstable thyroid (Hashimoto's) made me kind of crazy! I had been a fairly intelligent person, but all that seemed to diminish with my illness. I am happy to report that I have both physically and mentally improved but it took about...
  8. Hang in there! Having to study and not feel well is hard! Try walking outside for 15 to 20 minutes a day. It will improve your mood and help you with studying. Another tip is to play an instrument. It really improves your brain! Seriously! It fires it up! Consider a $5.00 recorder. You can teach yourself to play it. Too much? Listen to music...
  9. Six months? Usually, with a thyroid medication change or a change in lab results, your doctor should re-check in six weeks (google what endo association guidelines say). I had thyroid testing (excluding TPO antibodies) done every six weeks when I was first diagnosed until everything stablized (the same applied after my celiac disease diagnosis). If you...
  10. Bartful, Like Scarett O'Hara, I decided to "Think about it tomorrow." in the hopes that I could write a response that would best describe my feelings and thoughts. Well, a few days have passed and it is not getting any easier! I respect your decision regarding your healthcare and I am so sorry that this is happening to you. You will be missed...
  11. Unfortunately, because Trader Joe's private labels most of their products (I can not get a good response from them either), I do not shop there anymore for processed gluten-free products. I do buy Joe's O's for my gluten-eating kid. That is pretty much the only potentially gluten-containingproduct I allow in the house (due to creoss contamination issues...
  12. Hyperthyroidism can affect sleep, along with other hormone deficiencies. Not sure how old you are, but perimenopause can greatly affect sleep. HRT helped me and my celiac disease diagnosis resolved my unstable thyroid (I have Hashimotos). Things to have your doctor check if those tests have not been run lately. ?. Just something to consider.
  13. Have you read "Think Like a Pancreas" or "Dr. Richard Berstein's Diabetes Solution"? Nice tips from those who have TD1 to help avoid complications. Also, have any of your relatives been tested for celiac disease? It is genetic! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  14. Could be Eosinophlic Esophagitis alone or in combination with Celiac Disease. Google EOE. For some reason I can not paste a link this morning from my iPad. EOE occurs most often in kids, but it can affect adults. We have members with this condition. The bottom line is to find the root causes of your symptoms -- not just meds to fix them!
  15. Alas, this bill has not passed yet! From what I have read....fat chance! ? Open Original Shared Link For years I paid cash for Armour Thyroid. I would get a 3 month supply. It is/was less than $10 a month which was the cost of my monthly co-pay.
  16. Fatty liver is very common for celiacs! I am sorry that you have been getting the run-around from what sounds like incompetent doctors. Open Original Shared Link Exactly what tests were given to test for celiac disease? Here are the tests: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide...
  17. Latex paint is safe: Open Original Shared Link
  18. We have mild latex allergies in our family. All bandages must be latex free. I have to buy latex free socks for my hubby. All underwear must have the elastic covered. We get rashes where latex touches our skin. It has never bothered our eyes before, but I imagine it can based on this from the CDC and other medical sites: Open Original Shared Link ...
  19. Things to eat? Well-cooked, easy-to-digest foods like stewed meats, fish, veggies, oils, and fruit until your gut is healed. I could not eat dairy or eggs before my diagnosis. Now I can eat them easily!
  20. You are sick! I am going to say this bluntly -- forget being an athlete until you have healed. I can say it, because I am very active for a person my age. This is the time for you to slow down temorarily and do everything in your power to heal. Going gluten free will help you heal from celiac disease but healing from SIBO may require a different...
  21. I take Armour Thyroid and it is gluten free. I can relate to your frustration. I got glutened badly last summer. Was it just a one time exposure that triggered my antibodies to go higher than when I was initially diagnosed (tested six weeks after gluten exposure)? I have no clue as to what glutened me because it happened before I went on vacation...
  22. You were just diagnosed with just the gene test and positive blood test, right? Maybe it is time that you visit your GI and get an endoscopy. You may have something other than just celiac disease (SIBO, Crohn's, etc.). I would think that you would be better by now and any intolerances resulting from a damaged gut would be resolved. I hope you get...
  23. Karen is right. It could be an intolerance to an ingredient. Canyon Bakehouse is certified gluten free. Is she dairy and certified oat free too? Or consider getting her re-tested. Ask for the DGP test. No sense second guessing if it has been a while: Open Original Shared Link Or consider her diet. Gluten may be sneaking in. Too many...
  24. He published his email address in this posting. You might try contacting him directly. The email address may still be valid. Good Luck!
  25. Really? You are giving this advice to an ill 17 year old? ?. I could say many unkind things, but I am going to let it go. It is obvious that you are in a gluten-induced stupor validating that celiac disease can dramatically impact your brain! If you do not have celiac disease or NCGI, I am assuming that your brain may still undeveloped (decision making...
