  1. I buy California grown rice from Costco and have not had any problems with it. Just curious....did you wash it several times? FYI, rice can last for years and years. I buy in bulk for my emergency earthqake food.
  2. Make sure she is getting gluten and has been getting it before you test. We have a gluten-free house, but I manged to give my daughter gluten everyday in her lunch for months before she was tested (she tested negative, but will need follow-up testing every few years).
  3. Flea comb works great on my dog. Just plop the fleas fast into a bowl and soapy water and watch them drown fast! Advantage works well, but we pick up fleas on the trail and the comb gets the few that jump on her.
  4. There are many things that could damage villi. This is what the University of Chicago's celiac website has to say: Open Original Shared Link
  5. Wow! You really might have a non-functioning gallbladder. Here is a link to an interesting article about gallbladder issues and the fact that not everyone has classic symptoms. Plus, it is strongly linked to autoimmune disorders like celiac disease. My symptoms came and went for years. Open Original Shared Link Have you researched ox bile? That...
  6. Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for proper testing requirements that you can share with your doctor. Continue to eat gluten until all testing is complete. I hope you find answers!
  7. Nice tip. Just be sure no one has an allergy to aspirin (I do!). My old doc would recommend old fashioned baking soda, but used only occasionally. it would be best to find the cause though.
  8. Well, it could be other things like MS, thyroid issues, medications, dehydration, lack of potassium, calcium and other minerals, etc. I understand that it developed after your diagnosis. I fractured two vertebrae doing NOTHING two months after my celiac disease diagnosis. Just going gluten free for two months is not going to solve damage that has been...
  9. I have done that for years (trying to keep hubby slim)!
  10. Hi Eric! Welcome! Two months is probably too soon for complete intestinal healing. Sometimes it can take a couple of years to fully re grow villi. Plus, there is a huge learning curve when it comes to going gluten free and that can slow you down. I took additional supplements at the beginning. I am sure I did not absorb most of them, but I...
  11. U of Chicago's fee screening is 10/11/2014, if he can wait that long. At least you know the right tests would be done.
  12. Ha! My kid thought is was a real insect at the bottom of your posting!
  13. It is a reservoir for bile, but it can be attacked by your immune system. I suppose it could have immune properties as well but that is beyond my scope of knowledge. Here is a good article: Open Original Shared Link
  14. Sorry, Colleen, I checked my hospital records and other than ejection rate did not find anything else. The surgeon told me verbally that it was "hot" meaning infected. Other family members were told that their gallbladders were damaged, but I do not recall them mentioning wall thickness. In any case, no one in my family ever had their gallbladders removed...
  15. Here are my ideas (and they may be way off).... My husband went gluten free 13 years ago. I fed him purchased gluten-free bread and goodies and he did not have any issues. I was then diagnosed and I started eating gluten-free products. I thought I was getting glutened. Turns out it was Xanthan gum found in many certified gluten-free products. Anyone...
  16. I would imagine that like every gluten-causing-symptom, it would take weeks to years to resolve. Everyone is different depending on their damage. I know this really does not help. Based in input I have seen on this forum, for those with NCGI or celiac disease, a minimum of six months is needed.
  17. What do you mean "gain weight"? Bulk up on muscle or acquire a spare tire? If you want to build muscle, then eat more protein. I eat it at every meal otherwise, I would not have the strength to ride my bike. I consume more when I am training. Nut Butters and sweet potatoes is not going to get you there. What do you eat on a daily basis?
  18. Lisa is right. You should always get all copies of lab results and file them away.
  19. I assume you had a biopsy and a celiac blood panel to confirm diagnosis? Yes, other things can cause villi damage. I have often thought about that myself since I have a milk allergy and not just lactose intolerance (though I probably have that too because of celiac disease and my age). I, like many of the others, think that another biopsy within six...
  20. The dishwasher does a great job of cleaning gluton off of dishes. If hand washing, wash separately and use a dedicated Gluten free sponge or cloth.
  21. When I am living out of my car (hotels) vs RV, I use my five day cooler. Yeah, it is big but it works. I drag it into the most elegant of hotels. I use big blocks of ice made from leftover milk jugs. That can keep thiings cool even in a hot car. Then I refill with tons of hotel ice. All food is kept in zip lock bags or plastic containers. In Europe...
  22. Well, if it is celiac disease, my opinion (from someone who avoids drugs since I am allergic to many) is to tough it out until you get testing done. If it is your gallbladder, keep eating gluten but try to avoid fatty foods (but temporarily since fats are good for you), eat more soups and easily digested foods. I hope you are getting a HIDA scan to determine...
  23. Yes! Though I waited until the Affordable Heathcare went into effect. We are self-employed and In the past, I had hard time getting health insurance. I could afford it, but kept getting rejected! My only symptom was anemia and our PCP/GP did not blink an eye, when I asked for my 13 year old to be tested. He also ran a CBC panel to check for anemia...
