Welcome to the forum. Sorry that you are feeling so bad. Everyone is different, but it took me about six weeks to see some improvement. ARCHIVED Natural Approach To Increasing Bone Density/help With Reading Results
cyclinglady replied to BelleVie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry, am trying to get out of the house early this morning (teach a class). That said, I fractured a vertebrae in June 2013 doing NOTHING! It was just a few months after my diagnosis. My bone scan showed osteoporosis in my back and osteopenia in my hips, etc. I am schedule for another scan in about two years. It does take that long to show improvement... -
ARCHIVED Am I Accidentally Glutening My Daughter?
cyclinglady replied to PLGW2012's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd really convert the house to being completely gluten free until your daughter is feeling better and you can handle both gluten-free and gluten in your house and that includes training the rest of the family. Yes, your family may balk, but wouldn't they all come together if you were dealing with cancer? It's easy to keep gluten out of the house.... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Gluten Intolerance
cyclinglady replied to marymary's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It could very well be celiac disease as there are over 300 symptoms. Has your doctor (ped or GI) ordered a celiac panel? If not, I'd ask. My main symptom for celiac disease was anemia -- no tummy issues. Later, I realized (and my family) that my "anxiety" was definitely related to celiac disease and not menopause! Check out the University of Chicago... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Recipe Apps?
cyclinglady replied to jonesy77's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry, I don't know of any apps, but on this forum, many folks have posted great recipes. There are plenty of blogs out there too! I try to avoid the blog recipes that require different blends of gluten-free flours. I do plenty of baking of goodies and have converted most of my old gluten-containing recipes to gluten-free using Pamela's gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Shakes/supplements To Gain Weight
cyclinglady replied to Christine0125's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Pamela's all purpose gluten-free flour is great. You can literally take any of your old favorite gluten containing cookie and cake recipes and sub out the flour (e.g. Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies). I freeze everything (up to three months for best flavor), and when we have a craving for chocolate mayonnaise cupcakes, we pull them out, set them on the... -
ARCHIVED Going To A Korean Restaurant Tonight
cyclinglady replied to NanaV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wine, soda, steamed rice, and salad without any dressing. If the person who's on the phone is not fluent in English, then you can bet the cooks won't speak any English! I'd eat before you go! -
ARCHIVED Trouble Sleeping After Going gluten-free?
cyclinglady replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some folks go through withdrawals for the first few weeks. Hopefully, your son will start sleeping better soon! -
ARCHIVED Am I Accidentally Glutening My Daughter?
cyclinglady replied to PLGW2012's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your daughter should have post-diagnosis testing. Your Doc doesn't sound very knowledgable. Here is a link to the U of Chicago's Celiac Center. You can share it with him and push for testing. Open Original Shared Link My house is gluten free as the risk for cross contamination is high --especially with kids in the house. I send pre-packaged gluten... -
ARCHIVED Test Results Sufficient Enough To Be Negative?
cyclinglady replied to Nikaia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you sure the results were directly from the lab? Did the doctor just try to summarize your results? Maybe she left out a page whens he was transcribing the letter? I went to Quest Lab's website and they can provide you a copy of the lab results, but it can take up to 30 days and they can only do it for certain states. It might be better/faster for... -
It's hard to say without more information. 1) How tall are you? Male or Female? 2) Are you tracking your calories (e.g. food journal). 3) Are you consuming enough food to meet your weight goals? 4) Have you followed up with celiac disease testing to insure you are adhering to the diet? 5) Do you have any food intolerances?

ARCHIVED Thyroid Medication? Levoxyl Discontinued
cyclinglady replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get my prescription from Costco (Armour Thyroid) and I DO NOT use my insurance. If my doc writes the script for 100 tablets, it's actually cheaper than paying the monthly co-pay. I don't have to order each month or go through a mail-house pharmacy either! Shop around your local pharmacys and ask for the cash price. Then get whatever thyroid med you... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa
cyclinglady replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm....I do react to gluten-free oats. I gave them up when I gave up quinoa. Perhaps it is time to re-introduce gluten-free oats. I will try another brand of quinoa. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum
cyclinglady posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ugh! Another intolerance identified! This time it is xanthan gum. I have have used xantham gum for years in baking for my gluten-free husband. Now that I have been diagnosed, my own consumption rate of it has increased (as I heal, I've been feeling better and have been inspired to bake). I confess that I eat a lot. When cookies come out of the... -
I am so sad! I was diagnosed in March 2013 and purchased some gluten-free (certified) quinoa for breakfast porridge. I had not had any in a long time. I reacted to the quinoa just as I would to gluten (pain in my actual stomach, rock feeling in stomach, body aches, irritability, etc.). I figured that it was just too soon after my diagnosis and I...

Can't help you with the Vitamin B issues, but I am astounded that you took meds containing gluten. Maybe you need to review the newbie thread on going gluten free. It is very helpful. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I hope you feel better soon.

Are you taking any meds -- even over the counter? I am allergic to ibuprofen ( e.g. Advil) and aspirin. Both cause my eyes to swell shut, face and tongue to swell.

ARCHIVED Question About Supplements
cyclinglady replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My bad! I mis-read and thought Jason was taking 50,000 per day which I really did think was excessive. Thanks for the clarification. -
ARCHIVED Suddenly Intolerant Of Dairy?
cyclinglady replied to Missy1306's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yikes! Getting "glutened" everyday by your meds! How awful for you! The good news is that you caught it and are now correcting it. I hope you start to feel better soon. I have had a milk allergy for years. I was hoping that I'd be able to have milk products after going gluten free, but I still have milk issues! Everyone's different, so let's... -
ARCHIVED Question About Supplements

Isn't it 50,000 i.u. per week for about 8 weeks? I'm not a doctor, but your current dosage seems excessive. -

ARCHIVED What Can I Do With Buckwheat Breakfast Cereal?
cyclinglady replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah, you can add some into your pancake batter and muffins. Just sub in a 1/4 cup or so until you get rid of your supply. Did you try doctoring up your buckwheat porridge? Like adding raisins, cranberries, honey, milk, soy milk, cinnamon, banana? I really love buckwheat porridge, but my husband does not. He can't take the texture (he doesn't like ricotta... -
ARCHIVED Upset Stomachs
cyclinglady replied to Sunshine08721's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No you're not alone. Having celiac disease can affect your entire intestinal tract and neighboring organs (e.g. liver, gallbladder, etc.) You are just two months into the diet. It took years to get sick and will take up to a year or two to get better. Slowly, you should see improvement. Everyone's different since everyone has different levels of damage... -
ARCHIVED Gained Over 60Lbs And Cant Loose It.
cyclinglady replied to Cindy Anderson's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As long as your are eating healthy and not getting even a tiny bit of gluten into your diet, your body weight should eventually level off. Now, you should not be consuming more (or even less) that the recommended calorie amounts for your height and age (google for calorie count for you). You didn't mention how damaged your intestines were. If you...- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Question About Supplements
cyclinglady replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow! That seems like a lot of Vitamin D! I'm deficient too, but only take 2,000 i.u./day. I would cut back on the Vit. D. It will build back slowly. Remember, Rome wasn't build in a day! I'm always leary about exceeding "normal" standards on supplements without a doctor's approval or supervision. The charcoal from what I have read and what...
