ARCHIVED Struggling To Get On Top Of Celiac
cyclinglady replied to ytsirkdraw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All great suggestions from everyone here. I've been allergic to milk proteins for years prior to my celiac disease diagnosis and getting constipated was one of my symptoms. Garlic, on the other hand, causes diarrhea. Go figure! Fortunately, I'm fine with soy. I purchase only Silk DHA Omega 3 soymilk because it's the creamiest and best tasting and... -
Wow! That's what I want to hear from my doctor in five years!!!!! I have complete confidence that I will adhere strictly to the gluten-free diet, since I've been taking care of my gluten-free hubby for the past 12 years and I've never glutened him (restaurants have though.....) I have been worried about healing based on the research I've seen, so it's...

ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Is Going To Set Me Back?
cyclinglady replied to ip87's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess you could say I was pretty much asymptomatic when I went to the Gastro for a routine colonoscopy. I had two anemias (one genetic so I knew about that) and low ferritin (stored iron) and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (diagnosed almost 15 years ago). During the consult for the colonoscopy, the gastro said that wanted to scope me for celiac when he did the... -
ARCHIVED Starting To Freak Out
cyclinglady replied to anti-soprano's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm pretty tired, but I can't go to sleep until I post a response. Please try to do some research on Cipro (quinolones) and Bactrim. I have experienced neuropathies after taking Cipro in the hospital post gallbladder surgery for over six months (and I think I got off lightly). The side effects of these two drugs are severe and many of the symptoms you...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Costco Cashew Clusters
cyclinglady replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My gluten-free husband thought they were "okay". No reaction. I don't eat them because they have almonds. -
ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Causing Symptoms?
cyclinglady replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Forgot to mention that during allergy season, my food intolerances increase dramatically -- no cheating for me. -
ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Causing Symptoms?
cyclinglady replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here, here! I agree. When pollen count is high, use antihistamines, neti pot, and shower before you go to bed every night. Keep your bedroom pollen free as much as possible. Shower after working in the yard. My brother wears a mask while riding his lawnmower and showers immediately after he's done to avoid tracking in all the pollen/grass into his house... -
ARCHIVED Tips On Helping Family/friends Understand Cc
cyclinglady replied to NotMollyRingwald's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Amy, excellent post! I have the same concerns. We're going to visit my family for a month and I really need to get them on board! -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Aloe Vera Juice
cyclinglady replied to Dancer's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've tried the juice in the past and didn't notice any health benefits. Be aware that it has a laxative effect. I do use aloe vera, the plant, in my backyard for cuts and burns. it works great, but it's a little smelly and messy. -
ARCHIVED Im Needing A Bit Of Help Now
cyclinglady replied to jhol's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Don't give up hope! After staying away (completely for one year) from eggs, I'm able to use them in baked goods. I still can't eat them in their "whole" form. -
ARCHIVED Making Flour Tortilla's?
cyclinglady replied to CommonTater's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just use corn tortillas instead. They are easy to make from scratch from Masa Flour (corn). You can find lots of tortillas making postings on YouTube. -
ARCHIVED Stomach Pain
cyclinglady replied to Renaye's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mentioned that your last HIDA scan reported a 30% function rate. It might now be below 20% which is the cut-off for surgery. Other than lower abdominal pain and passing out, I did not have the typical gallbladder symptoms. Non-functioning gallbladders run in our family. Dad's one of 7 and 6 have had theirs removed. I'm one of 27 first cousins... -
ARCHIVED Cc Issues And Thank You All For Being There
cyclinglady replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll just respond to the pet food. Both my dog and (my old kitty!) were/are on grain free food. My lab is very healthy for her age. I tried several brands but now purchase grain free at Costco. One less thing to worry about! -
ARCHIVED Can Cat Food Cause Glutening?
cyclinglady replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't heard about cats, but a doctor who has celiac disease was being glutened by her adorable, kissable, slobbery (think teething), gluten-eating toddlers. Her solution was to make her entire house/family go gluten-free. My dog is currently on grain free food and so was my cat (RIP, Tux-boy!) -
ARCHIVED Stomach Pain
cyclinglady replied to Renaye's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Shadow. It sounds like your gallbaldder. My pain always was much lower and nowhere near my GB. Pains started on and off at age 16. Serious enough for me to most always pass out. Had it removed when I was 45 while on a business trip to Las Vegas. First time I had a HIDA scan (ultrasounds showed no stones and a healthy GB). HIDA results... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
cyclinglady replied to Meatballman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmmm, I'll look for it. Tried the Redbridge and it was awful! Maybe I still can recall (it's only been 7 weeks), my fav -- New Castle. I'm going to stick to Potato Vodka and fresh squeezed OJ for a while. No weird taste there. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensativity Help?
cyclinglady replied to csad859's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Going gluten free (gluten-free) won't make you vitamin deficient. Most people who have intestinal damage may need additional vitamins and supplements until they heal. As long as you eat whole natural foods and vary your diet, you won't have a problem. Stay clear of processed gluten-free foods -- they're the ones with little fiber and nutrition (i.e. cookies... -
ARCHIVED Hungry And Losing Weight
cyclinglady replied to Dancer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You said you could eat meat and fish, so eat plenty of those -- for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eat hard squash (like butternut), yams and sweet potatoes (which are NOT part of the nightshade family). I basically eat "dinner" for breakfast. Wierd, but it keeps ya full! Go outside your comfort zone and eat different veggies. I live on the west coast... -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Cookies
cyclinglady replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It would be worth a try. It's been years since I've used egg replacer (I can tolerate eggs in baked goods -- but not by themselves!), but Shadow's recipe looks good! I'm going to try Karen's recipe too! I admit I do have a sweet tooth. -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Cookies
cyclinglady replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No flour. Got this recipe from a Jr. High Home Economics teacher over 20 years ago. It's fast and easy. I like everyone else's modifications too! -
I'm munching on fresh ones now! Perfect for parties and no one knows they're gluten-free! 1 cup Peanut Butter 1 egg 1 cup sugar 3 T. sugar Roll into 1 inch balls, roll into sugar, bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Cool and eat. Freezes well! Enjoy!

ARCHIVED Normal Reaction To Accidental Ingestion
cyclinglady replied to lizabsh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not to me, but it does to my neighbor who has Celiac Disease too. -
Welcome. Believe me, this is the best site for support. I've been glued to it for the past few weeks, gleaning information and helping others (which really helps me!) Continue to read up the "101" posting Kareng recommended. You don't have to live on chicken, rice and lettuce! Just focus on whole foods. I made tri-tip (seasoned just with salt and...

I have to disagree, Jo. There's plenty of fiber (bulk) in fruit and veggies. Sweet potatoes, butternut squash (and other hard squashes) are full of fiber and nutrients that will keep you feeling full. In the UK, there was a show that had 9 volunteers eat just what the gorillas at the zoo. Participants lost weight, cholesterol, and they got plenty of...

It's been since September 2012, but my total cholesterol was 119. HDL was 41, LDL was 62, Triglycerides were 81. It's been lower, hmmm....maybe 112 for total cholesterol. It will be interesting to see if my levels go up and I'm not sure if my current levels could be extreme, but everyone always made a comment about it!
