  1. Looking back on my life, knowing what I know now about how my body reacts to gluten, I've had symptoms since early childhood. When I was 17, I had mono which triggered all the GI symptoms, exhaustion, weight fluctuations, etc. When I was 30, after my first pregnancy, I developed what I called "30-second-notice" diarrhea where I would have to run...
  2. Yep. It seems to be par for the course around here. Once your body knows that it doesn't have to put up with gluten anymore, it REALLY doesn't want to and will rebel if there is any at all. That's one of the reasons that a few doctors out there will diagnose celiac based on dietary response and gluten challenge. It's just such a dramatic shift. You...
  3. You rock Kitty! Good for you for taking things into your own hands. With doctors, their attitude is everything. Some doctors seem to be more aware that they don't, and can't, know everything. Nancy
  4. I noticed the same thing too. The whole neighborhood is blooming and I don't even have a stuffy nose. I think I still have some allergies, because I've had a few occasions of allergies since diagnosis, but it wasn't even enough to take medicine, just irritating. This celiac thing is weird huh? Nancy
  5. Hey Lisa...!! Have you heard from your doctor yet? Any new info? Nancy
  6. My most embarassing glutening was when I got a piece of fuzz in my mouth after giving my kids a handful of goldfish crackers. I put my fingers in my mouth to get the fuzz off and as soon as my fingers touched my tongue I realized what I did - DOH!! It happens to everyone. As for sauces, I use Bobs's Red Mill Gluten-Free All-Purpose flour for all...

Wow. Those years must have been scary and frustrating for her. Nancy
  8. If you like your doctor that's a VERY important and very GOOD thing. If I liked my child's doctor, I would approach it differently. So many of us are ridiculed or dismissed or treated like hysterical parents that that's the conclusion we tend to jump to. If he's a good doctor, it's not that he doesn't care, he just doesn't KNOW. If you can bring...
  9. My son was a little on the short side for our family and quite thin, but nowhere near the point where FTT was even ever brought up. When we put him on the gluten-free diet, he plumped up and his irritability and reclusiveness went away. He went from being what I called quiet and "serious" to a happy, goofy, loud little 2yo boy. My advice is to get...
  10. Most people don't have a reaction from just touching gluten, although some do. The problem comes from the gluten on your hands making its way into your mouth. Which is easier than you might think. Back when I was the only gluten-free person in my house, I had given my kids a handful of goldfish crackers and didn't wash my hands afterward. I was...
  11. I really need some humor today and just wanted to share one of my favorite sites - www.comics.com Up near the top of the page there is a drop-down box that says Select a Feature. I just start at the first one (9 Chickweed) and use the Next> button to go through all of them. If I haven't been on in a while, I use the calendar feature to read...
  12. I've seen recipes where they use whipped egg whites (like you're making a merengue but soft peaks) and fold them in. That might lighten them up. Nancy
  13. We were talking about this on a thread not too long ago. It turns out that the doctor who's doing the test is the same ped GI M.D. that my kids go to. She's the ped celiac specialist in Sacramento. There must be something significant to it. I can't wait to hear more about it. Nancy
  14. I'm so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I've also had a lot of experience with loss recently and through most of my adult life. Around the time I found out I had gluten intolerance, I was also going through grieving a death (my dad), my marriage was falling apart, and my family had essentially left me in a ditch to deal with everything on my own. ...
  15. They say that testing on young kids isn't very reliable. I would say it's personal choice whether you want to put him gluten-free. I'm not sure how often you should retest. If it were me, I'd say once a year? I'm not sure though. I put my 4yo gluten-free six months ago because she was having stomach aches and anxiety attacks (just afraid of EVERYTHING...
  16. Remember when Rosie had her own show and she always used to refer to a nervous stomach? I'd bet she has some sort of food intolerance (not necessarily gluten of course) or maybe even something like candida.
  17. That makes so much sense. For anyone who wasn't able to pull it up, Elizabeth was self-diagnosed and she didn't feel it was responsible to say she has a disease when she wasn't sure she even had it. She later did a gene test that confirmed celiac. If I were in the public eye, I'd probably do the same thing. Can't wait to see this segment. Having...
  18. I'm so glad you found us here too. I would hate to think of you going through this alone. I'm glad the IV went well. Nancy
  19. I LOVE Annalise Roberts. Because of her, I was able to reproduce ALL of my families traditional Christmas cookies this past year. Thanks for the tip on the vanilla. I'll have to give that a shot. Nancy
  20. What I would do is to make a deal with him to completely cut out soy for a set period of time. A month or two? Then reintroduce it and see what happens. I'm not up on the details of soy intolerance, but if it's anything like gluten intolerance, he'll feel so great off soy and so awful on it that it will be his choice to stay off of it and you won...
  21. Yay!!!!! The funny thing is that a year from now you'll still be proud. This place is kinda like finding your home planet huh? Nancy
  22. This is from my husband - Maybe Monica's lipstick had wheat in it. It won't make me sick if you... Nancy
  23. That's TRUE!!! I never thought about that... Welcome to the board, by the way. Nancy
  24. Hey! I found on the Today show site you can actual watch that segment - Open Original Shared Link He said that Clinton was allergic to dairy, flour and chocolate. He said that he managed though and pointed to a pie and said that that cherry pie was made for him. He didn't say anything else about it though. Whether he has classic celiac, a...
  25. I'm sure that this is just something that isn't going to go much further than research, but you never know. I was looking on Pubmed to see what the latest was and came across this: Open Original Shared Link Here's the copy and paste: Biomacromolecules 2007 Feb Novel protein fibers from wheat gluten.Reddy N, Yang Y. Department...
