  1. Another thing to think about is that if your daughter is a celiac, she probably got at least one gene from at least one of her parents, perhaps both of you. Being celiac is something that makes kids (and adults) feel different and awkward and unable to be part of the group. I think it is very good on a lot of levels for the whole family to adopt the diet...

You really can't spot reduce. But weight gain around the waist is associated with a pre-diabetic condition called Syndrome X or hyperinsulinemia or metabolic syndrome. I would suggest trying a healthy low carb diet, lots of veggies, meat, maybe a little fruit, avoid starches and sugars.
  3. There's a good article about what to do when you're not getting better.
  4. There are dining cards available which are hugely helpful. I believe they're Triumph Dining cards and you can buy them for many cuisines. I ordered mine on celiac.com
  5. The key to statins is understanding how many people would have died if they hadn't been placed on statins. I don't recall the number any longer, but you have to put a whole lot of people on statin therapy to prevent one cardiac related death. And if death from all other mortalities goes up, are they actually a good thing? Maybe Dan has the figures at hand...
  6. I think it is important to take gluten sensitivity just as serious as celiac disease. Just because most of our medical establishment doesn't, doesn't mean we have to be just as foolish. Your body has proved you with the answer, listen to it!
  7. With Ankylosing Spondylitis (another autoimmune arthritis) there has been some research escapees from the gut, like Klebsiella P., cause an autoimmune reaction elsewhere, which leads to the arthritis mess. Here's a paper about that: Open Original Shared Link Many of the AS sufferers have been using a starch free diet to starve the Kleb. P. and it seems...
  8. I don't think there's any recipes out there. I just made it myself by using coconut milk instead of dairy milk. Seems to work! There's a kefir site out there that has incredible amounts of info about making your own. Just google "Dom's kefir" and you should find it.
  9. Enterolab can't diagnose Celiac disease, you need an intestinal biopsy for that. They can only tell you if you're having autoimmune reactions to gliadin (wheat protein), malabsorption (which often goes along with celiac), and an autoimmune reaction to ttg (in the intestines). TtG is a normal tissue protein that celiacs often have an autoimmune reaction...
  10. I could donate some of the extra calories I ate today!
  11. I tested positive for casein and I "cheat" every now on then, on the casein. I usually end up with a good case of "wind" (shall we say...) if not worse. So there's definitely stuff going on down under that brings on some stormy weather.
  12. No, no. It's been around since antiquity. I'd say go back to eating food from 10,000 years ago, pre-neolithic times. The ancient egyptians were about the first to start suffering from modern diseases that we currently have and they ate a lot of grain. Wheat is pretty new to the human diet and is becoming a larger and larger component of it...
  13. Well there's dairy in kefir unless you make your own from coconut milk, like I do. I've heard the store bought kefir is inferior because they use a culture that doesn't include the same kinds or huge number of bacteria. But I suppose it is better than nothing. I usually alternate between goat milk kefir and coconut milk kefir, hoping that my grains...
  14. Well, I think the blood test is about as accurate as reading tea leaves. If you've been around the forum for awhile, you know lots of us have had positive results on the diet and negative results on their various tests. Your plan sounds good though. Go for it!
  15. Have you been checked for diabetes? That can cause neuropathy, but so can gluten. What hormones are an issue? You should see a doctor and tell them all your symptoms. It might just be gluten intolerance but you should let them check you out too. I had the anxiety and insomnia when I had Graves disease (thyroid juicing up too much).
  16. Mucous was always a sign for me my gut is unhappy. I think there's a mucous lining in there that gets shed when things are irritated. So it is probably likely you had something that didn't agree with you.
  17. I've always been amused at how uptight people are a pooping at work. I guess you could say I'm totally out of the closet. Anyway, I have a funny story about my Mom and her friend Fern. They were elderly, in their 70's I guess when Fern came to visit Mom. They were childhood best friends and the cutest pair of little old ladies you ever saw. Anyway...
  18. Is your name... Clark Kent? That'd explain it!
  19. I ALWAYS bruised easily before I went gluten-free. I think it's better now, I can't remember having an "mystery" bruises in a long while. Also I used to do martial arts and was constantly covered with nasty, hideous bruises from just our regular lessons. I wonder if it'd be better now?
  20. There's a genetic link to having high HDL that is associated with a longevity gene I think. Do you have long lived ancestors?
  21. My new philosophy is that if I have to spend more than 10 seconds staring at the label, it goes back on the shelf. I'm approaching the age were I might need reading glasses and I don't want to waste my time staring at microscopic fine print trying to find the word "wheat" buried in an ingredient list. Anyway, the end result is a MUCH healthier diet...
  22. Well, it shows how we're just little robots reacting to the hands on our watches. I know how it feels, the beauty of the world around us gets blotted out due to time pressures. I wish I were a cavewoman.
  23. Is this from Trader Joe's? They say they'll always report wheat in the ingredient list. Open Original Shared Link Sounds like an herb to me.
  24. Well, we're here to provide the support for one another. It is difficult to find it outside this circle. You might also want to look into a local celiac group.
  25. If you've got a vit D deficiency I think it is up to you to educate yourself, this is another area doctors are really trailing behind in. A great place to start is with Open Original Shared Link It is so important. They're finding a huge link between insufficient D levels and a lot of life-threatening diseases like heart disease and cancer.
