ARCHIVED Need Help - Positive Blood Work, Negative Gene Test
Nancym replied to gfwarrior's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No, it doesn't mean you don't have celiac. There's some percentage of celiacs that don't have either of the genes currently recognized. It probably indicates they haven't figured out the entire genetics of celiac disease yet. -
ARCHIVED Cocoa From The Bean Scratch?
Nancym replied to spicenator3000's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just heard one of the guys behind Schaffenberger (sp?) talk about how they started. Basically he said you can make your own cocoa from chocolate nibs and a coffee grinder, that's about how they got started. Here's a link to that interview: Open Original Shared Link Google "make your own chocolate" lots of stuff out there -
Why would your insurance company drop you? I don't think they can, unless they can prove you lied on your application. A whole bunch of companies got into trouble recently over claiming people lied on their apps that really didn't, so they'll probably err on the side of the consumer for awhile.

After I got my enterolab gene test I googled my genetic results and found one of the genes Enterolab reported on was also somehow connected to narcolepsy. I don't have it though... thank god!

ARCHIVED Cheese Cake - I Am New Here.
Nancym replied to jamiedolan's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would suggest checking out some of the cheese cake recipes in a low carb message forum. They make crusts out of nuts and stuff like that usually. I've never heard of adding flour to the actual cheesecake, that's unusual! The first posting has an index of all the recipes: Open Original Shared Link -

Nancym replied to SqueakLAG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lots of folks have their lipids improve on low carb diets. Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes is an awesome book. I highly recommend it. Anyway, to the OP, there's a forum dedicated to low carb, paleo eating here: Open Original Shared Link There's also forums for other sorts of low carb diets here too, like South Beach and others. You'd better start eating insects and small animals then! The occasional carrion too. Moose calves, if they're available in your area, a bit of grass, tubers. If you're a polar bear you're going to eat seals, caribou perhaps, fish, and, sadly, penguins

I agree fresh pineapple is amazing stuff.

ARCHIVED Confused And Depressed
Nancym replied to angieInCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm with them, why do this to yourself for a test that a lot of people seem to get false negatives from? -
ARCHIVED Joint/muscle
Nancym replied to master44's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've Open Original Shared Link that seems to be caused by low D3 levels. Are you supplementing D3 at all? You might want to look into a book called "The Paleo Diet", it's very similar to this. Should give you ideas on what to eat. If you're into cooking there's a really nice cookbook called "The Garden of Eating" that confirms fairly closely to... -
ARCHIVED On Gluten Free Diet... Nothing Changed!
Nancym replied to nutbutters's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A good elimination diet might help you find other foods you react to. I figured out nuts, seeds and chocolate really mess me up. But again, they tend to display as intestinal woes. Oh, it took me a good six months to feel my joints improve after going gluten-free/DF. You might want to give it more time. My intestinal symptoms cleared up pretty quickly... -
ARCHIVED Does Anybody Else Have This Weird Issue With Wheat?
Nancym replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I see wheat as a symbol of wrongness. To me, it isn't pretty or decorative. -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Recovery - Taking Innate Thyroid Response Complete Care
Nancym replied to jennsboys23's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
TSH is low? TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone. It is secreted by the pituitary gland and says to the thyroid, "Hey buddy, I want more T-juice". When it is low then that means the brain (pituitary gland is in the brain) thinks your body is producing enough thyroid, or sometimes, if it is low enough, it can even mean you're hyperthyroid. Just... -
I think it sounds like your husband made a mistake and the doctor did as well. In any serious disease the patient should be contacted! But again, why go through the hassle of an endoscopy and not go find out the results?

ARCHIVED Coconut Oil (candida Killer) In San Diego
Nancym replied to mymagicalchild's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A lot of people mix in cocoa and sweetener, then freeze it, to make coconut bark. Here's some recipes and variations: Open Original Shared Link -
I've read more about Alzheimer's being related to diabetes, a problem with the brain metabolizing glucose. The glucose levels get too high and cause all kinds of damage. Open Original Shared Link If it were a loved one of mine, I'd try to convince them to stop eating sugars and starches and keep the carbs down. Unfortunately, my Dad went through...

Unfortunately there's a lot of ignorance about the dangers of fructose out there. Some of this info is pretty new so it isn't going to filter down to doctors for another 10 years or so. I have done a lot of research on the topic of sweeteners over the last 5 years. Unfortunately there's a lot of really bad information whose source is the sugar industry...

ARCHIVED Sleep Number Bed = Toxic Mold
Nancym replied to CarlaB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a select comfort, which is the same sort of air bed thing, and never had any mold issues. In fact, I have my parent's old beds. I wonder what would cause the mold? -
ARCHIVED Ankle And Hip Pop Out Of Joint
Nancym replied to YoloGx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think a friend of mine is going through this with her SI joint and she has been in terrible pain from it. For some reason those ligaments are too loose. Anyway, her options are: Wear a special belt to keep everything in place. Xray guided cortisone shots Metal plates and screws to hold things in place until the ligaments tighten And if none of... -
ARCHIVED Need Help From The Diabetics, Low-carb, Or Grain-free Ers
Nancym replied to missy'smom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You might want to check out The Paleo diet, or one of the many variations. Can you eat avocados, olives, nuts, nut butters that sort of thing? I can recommend a good forum to get dietary support if you want. Lots of grain/gluten free, low carb dieters there. There's even a low carb support forum for diabetics on the same MB. PM me if you're interested...
