  1. Thank you so much. It is one of those weird almost itchy pains (kind of feeling you get when your muscles feel sore) except it is along the ribs. I have never really understood the difference between the two conditions but thankfully mine has never felt as bad as some people get it when it mimics heart pain. Everything I read says take NSAIDS so it is...
  2. Hello I was told under a year ago that I had inflammation in my ribs, left side. It has flared up again quite badly, in fact now I would say it feels more like descriptions of Costochondritis that I read on line rather than the Tietze syndrome I was diagnosed with. I feel it around my sternum, to the left side: it is very tender and seems to...
  3. I can't say I have had any experience of knowing any children with celiac disease but what I did want to say is every time I read the word 'anxiety' on this forum I think back to my own diagnosis, when I was feeling so anxious, and they discovered I was extremely anemic and my B12 was also low. Almost as soon as I was put on supplements I felt vastly better...
  4. Oh .... forgot to add this. This explains the biopsy bit. This tells the experts how much the villi have been damaged. Open Original Shared Link (PS excuse English spelling of celiac! I still don't know why we spell it differently!)
  5. Hi Katie I think Kareng is right - it varies so much. I wouldn't be too anxious about it. I have never had a second follow up endoscopy although I'd quite like one just because I'd like to see how much I have improved with all my hard work (minus a few accidental glutenings) after all these months. I was really in a bad way at diagnosis and really...
  6. So righ MycasMommy ... rice pasta is excellent. Also, although gluten-free bread does take some getting used to I think it tastes so much better if you toast it. Re: cramps: sliced ginger allowed to diffuse in boiling water can be very calming the stomach. Drink it warm. You may find it easier to avoid dairy while you are doing the challenge - I got...
  7. Hi Nora Welcome to the Forum. Further to that great advice above, I just wanted to tell you so sorry you found out about Ibuprofen the hard way - I did too. It took a few weeks for my stomach to stop feeling sore. I don't say that to discourage you, I'm just saying in case it happens and you are concerned. I have a couple of coeliac friends here...
  8. Hope all goes well on Monday. I remember after my diagnosis my own gastroenterologist saying it was not common to have strange liver function tests but it did happen. He had just seen someone else with odd blood readings but they had come back down in line in response to a gluten-free diet. But he never had the time to explain why - this is why Gemini...
  9. Girls... thanks you all so much for your various contributions. Gemini, I just have to say it again that it is good that someone else has travelled down this route with me. Elevate blood protein has not been my only other weird symptom over the years, my health insurance call advisor actually laughed when I was ringing up about cover - he said he had...
  10. Gemini - that is an amazing reply, it must have taken an age to do all that typing so I really do appreciate it. Thank you so much. Thank goodness I am not the only celiac with this! I must admit I did find one other article that linked gamma globulins to celiac disease, but it took some searching. It was to do with why this protein might be elevated...
  11. Hi flowerqueen. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply ... I find the UK system quite odd as my celiac friends have all had different follow ups. One has barely seen a a doctor, just a nutritionalist, two of them have had tests just tracking the Celiac numbers. Why am I the only one having Liver Function Tests/Liver Enzyme Tests? It makes me...
  12. He'll find things a little easier in the UK now as we have a new law that says all allergens (and that includes gluten) need to be listed at restaurants/cafes etc. So when you go out you can ask to see their list. Exercise caution, though, as although this legislation is well-meant I have already encountered a few problems... such as a lovely gluten-free...
  13. Having read this forum for a while I have come to understand that Celiacs often have odd blood results, which quite often, although not always, normalise after the adoption of a gluten-free diet. In my own case before diagnosis I had abnormally low blood iron, borderline B12 and slightly elevated total blood protein (globulins were responsible for this...
  14. Hi Jennifer Well done for coming here for help... that is a great start . I'm just wondering, do you have some good friends that you can enlist to be your 'gluten-free buddies' in this? What I mean is perhaps you could explain to a few of your friends what is going on, show them this website, etc so they see the potential seriousness of not sticking...
  15. I had some gluten free oats a couple of months ago and felt awful for some weeks afterwards. Do you eat gluten-free oats? It has also taken me some months to realise that orange juice actually gives me pain and bloating and other gastro symptoms. But it has taken me such an age to realise that and suffering from health anxiety hasn't helped at all! All...
  16. People can be very insensitive. However, a situation I find almost more difficult is well-meaning people preparing something for me, going to a huge amount of trouble on my behalf, only to discover that what they have cooked/bought still has gluten in it. I am getting to the stage where I just feel it is easier to always have my own treats/snacks on standby...
  17. I only developed 'classic' celiac symptoms (D) about two months before my diagnosis. Before that time, I was suffering from fatigue, anemia, migraines and what I would describe as a nervous stomach (sometimes played up but not always)... but no doctor put two and two together. My own GP told me recently that a young man came in to see her with anemia ...
  18. I have a feeling that the very high percentage cocoa bars might be gluten free but make sure you check the labels. But those aren't the ones I really like, the Lindor chocolate is what sets it apart from the others....
  19. That's great to hear, Gemini! Thanks so much again.
  20. Those look just right. I don't see that they sell them in the UK yet but usually good ideas catch on fast! Thanks so much.
  21. Anyone know a chocolate manufacturer that actually does a good gluten-free impersonation of Lindt Lindor bonbons with that melty chocolate inside? I haven't found one yet.
  22. Me too. Lindt, are you listening? Can you use something else?! Please!
  23. Gemini - also wanted to thank you for being so nice about British food. Having lived abroad, including France, I know we haven't had the best reputation for restaurant food in the past. But I truly think that things have improved immensely in the last 20 years - it is still possible to have a bad meal,of course, but that is possible anywhere! Thanks again...
  24. This is potentially very good news. The other day I went into the tiniest independently owned cafe in my home town and the cafe owner produced a file of ingredients. She had simply photocopied the label of the chocolate powder that she was using in the hot chocolate but this was so helpful. I went to Ikea in Southampton and again found a very helpful...
  25. Egger - funny you should say that a about a week ago I increased my consumption of cheese because there wasn't much else to eat - I don't plan well when I shop - and I got C and a bit of lower abdominal pain.
