  1. Ev--That sounds like a great place--and the article was excellent!
  2. Glad you were happy with the products! Thank you from my kitty and me You have a pretty cat, too--did you have as much trouble as I did taking the picture? I must have tried for 20 minutes before I got a good shot of his face!
  3. Vincent--has your wife tried the Peabutter? It's not bad--no peanuts or gluten.
  4. That's what my allergist told me, too. You just have to avoid the offending food. And carry an Eppi-Pen
  5. Ms. SS--Celiac is a genetic, autoimmune disease. That means we are born with the necessary gene, but we also need a trigger (virus, surgery, stress, etc.) and gluten to activate it. There is no way that we can 'catch' it from either a pet or another person. It tends to run in families, so more than one person in a family can have it, but they didn't catch...
  6. Thanks Rachel--I'm only taking one capsule a day--in the AM. I plan to finish the 30 day supply, and then deceide whether or not to continue.
  7. Debbie--Your cats are just beautiful! What are their names?
  8. Hi Dee--Glad you found us! Celiac can indeed cause mood swings. I suffered from depression and anxiety for many years before I was diagnosed. I found that after about 4 months on the gluten-free diet, my moods began to even out. This takes time, and the time varies from person to person. It sounds like your future dil has been thru an awful lot in a...
  9. Marianne--Welcome! I live in New Jersey, outside Philadelphia. I know that there are several Whole Food Markets around the Phila. area. Are you going to be staying in the city? If you let us know the approx. area you will be visiting, we can steer you to the nearest store
  10. Yes--you do have to be concerned with make-up, especially lip products for obvious reasons. Really, anything that has a chance of getting into your mouth should be checked for gluten. I use Bare Escentuals make-up. Their make-up line is mostly gluten-free. (their skincare line is not) Neutrogena has a lot of gluten-free products--you can do searches...
  11. Ha--That would bring them around right quick!
  12. On the left of your screen, go to Site Index. Go down to point 6--there's a long list of gluten-free foods and ingredients.
  13. The gluten-free diet cleared my anemia which was probably the cause of my hair loss. My hair stopped falling out after a few months on the diet. Are you anemic, by any chance?
  14. Monique--Welcome to the board! Your symptoms certainly point towards a gluten intolerance. There are two ways you could go here--before you go gluten-free, you could choose to see a Gastroentrologist, preferibly one who treats other Celiacs. Ask that he do a complete Celiac blood panel. If that is positive, you may deceide to have a biopsy done, or not...
  15. The hamburger buns from Grandma Ferndon's are REALLY good. I did not care for the bisquit mix at all--it was bitter. The cinnamon buns were good, also, but you have to add your own glaze. (I know I'm not Nantze, but just thought I'd share!)
  16. Rachel--That really made sense to me, too! Thanks for the explanation. Now, a question: I've just started taking Culturelle. Do you think that along with my diet of meat, veggies, fruit and nuts, it will make a difference? Do you know how long it takes for a probiotic to have any effect? The first few days on it, I felt fine, in the last day or two...
  17. The thing is, sometimes the longer you are gluten-free, the more sensitive you become to things that you never thought bothered you. A good way to identify which foods may be causing a problem--go back to the basics, and add things in one at a time. It's a pain and takes time, but it works.
  18. I think Jenvan posted a recipe for phyllo dough earlier today.
  19. I have read the label of Egg Beaters, and they say something like 99% real eggs...So, I have not tried them as I think I probably wouldn't do any better with them. I agree--I wish I could eat them. They are so versitile and would make a nice, quick meal. I hate my digestive system
  20. Alicia--you are right on! I am also one who can't even eat the substitutes--anything with rice or soy or corn affects me negatively. I don't eat anything I don't make anymore because I'm trying so hard to let myself heal. I don't eat out, either. If it weren't for potatoes, forget it! It must be really hard for those who do not have the symptoms to stay...
  21. That, and a big, gigantic pain in the butt
  22. Hi Kathleen and welcome! This is a great place for info and support. Wow, you have had to go through so much--I'm so sorry. Hopefully, you are encouraged by the progress you are making lately. The Naturopath sounds like he 'gets it' and is guiding you in the right direction. I know that it is so hurtful when those closest to us for some reason don't...
  23. Grits are made of corn.
  24. I would say disease, also. Even though the symptoms may go away, the disease never does.
  25. Ms. SS--I don't have any experience with the lab you talked about, but last year, before my dx when I was at my sickest, my GP did an O & P (ova and parasite) workup. I had to take 7 stool samples, over 3 days. When I had done all of that (ew), I took them in the little vials to the lab, Quest Diagnostics, and had blood drawn. The doctor had the results...
