ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues
Ursa Major replied to cause&effect's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is very unstable. My temperatures often range from temperatures as low as that one, to as high as 36 degrees Celsius (which is still way too low) within a day. In fact, the last temperature I took yesterday was 36. Even within a few hours it can be completely different. And strangely, I seem to go by a two-day cycle. One day my temperatures are extremely... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Heard Of This Or Had It Done?
Ursa Major replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was tested several years ago with a machine called a vega machine, which very accurately diagnosed SOME of my intolerances, not nearly all of them. It recognized an intolerance to all nightshades, the combination of grains and fruits, lactose, msg, coffee and chocolate. I find something that tells you that you're intolerant to macaroni and cheese and... -
I'm glad it's not DH, and that it's all healed. I get rashes, and know how annoying they are. But if you have celiac disease, you SHOULD be extremely careful with your food and use only gluten-free personal care products, anyway. By the way, I love your avatar!

ARCHIVED Do People Who Have True Celiac - Not Gluten Intolerance
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cassidy, the very best thing you can do for your child and for yourself to stay gluten-free. The doctor is utterly wrong in suggesting that it's okay to cheat if you're 'only' gluten sensitive. You will be doing damage past just immediate symptoms. Of course, you seem to know that already. -
ARCHIVED Who Has Thyroid Issues
Ursa Major replied to cause&effect's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have adrenal burnout and thyroid problems as well, which no doctor ever recognized until recently (well, I went and told him, and he agreed). But I am in worse shape now than I was before starting treatment, and have to start from scratch. If you want to know why, check my blog on this site. This afternoon my temperature reading was only 34.5 degrees... -
ARCHIVED Im No Longer Lactose Intollerant!
Ursa Major replied to imagine22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It seems that your intestines have repaired enough for you not to react to dairy any more. Just be advised that it is a lie the dairy industry has perpetuated, that you actually get calcium from milk. It appears that rather than GIVING you calcium, it will leach it out of your body. It will weaken your bones, rather than strengthen them. We absolutely... -
I finally discovered that I can have a blog here (yes, sometimes I can be pretty dense, I guess ). So, I decided to give it a try. Why am I up in the middle of the night? For several reasons. One is, that I am a night owl, always have been, and always will be. Secondly, I am feeling terrible, with stomach cramps that will give me trouble sleeping....

Oh, silly, it can happen to anybody! No need to call yourself names, Scott will delete the other post soon, and most people will never know (oh, right, since you told on yourself, I guess they will after all ).

ARCHIVED 20 Weeks Pregant And Blood Test Showed Positive For Celiacs But No Symptoms
Ursa Major replied to Greg G's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Greg, and welcome to this board. You certainly have reason to be worried, as celiac disease can lead to severe problems with the pregnancy and make the baby sick, too. Good for you for coming here. The way to go is NOT to replace foods containing gluten like pasta and bread by gluten-free ones, especially because gluten-free goods are higher in carbs... -
ARCHIVED Dh Glutened Me On Accident-sorta
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess the poor guy felt like being stuck 'between a rock and a hard place' when you asked him if he had touched the fruit with gluten on his hands. You'd get upset if he admitted he had contaminated the fruit salad, and he probably thought there was a chance that you wouldn't get glutened. Others just don't understand how little it takes to make us... -
Angela, your intestines may still be too sensitive for the types of food you're eating right now. A diet of very plain meat, vegetables and fruits would be better, and would help you heal faster. You might also want to take it easy on replacement foods like gluten-free breads. Have you eliminated dairy? That may be another thing that could cause a problem...

ARCHIVED New - Is It Worth It?
Ursa Major replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Somebody suggested that since your bloodwork was negative, you've now ruled out celiac disease. I disagree. Those tests aren't very reliable and yield false negatives, and the same can be said of biopsies. And anybody who is gluten sensitive and thinks that they can eat gluten once in a while without negative consequences is fooling himself. The damage... -
Well, I do the very same thing. Of course, I ought to be here, since I'm a moderator, right? . It is normal for you to still be researching, as celiac disease requires a lot of knowledge to stay safe. Plus people are so great here, I would miss them if I don't 'check in' frequently! As for being late for work, maybe you want to get up earlier so...

ARCHIVED First Visit With Pediatric Gi
Ursa Major replied to ACottrell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ah yes, doctors like to do that. A dietary test won't make him any money, of course. But it is absolutely true, trying the diet is the most valid test there is. If eliminating gluten makes you feel better, don't eat it. You have nothing to lose by trying it. I did, and I don't regret it. No doctor can stop you, what you eat is none of his business. -
ARCHIVED Medical Diagnosis Of Celiacs Vs Diet Response
Ursa Major replied to tinap's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tina, the testing for osteoporosis depends on the doctor. I was diagnosed entirely on dietary response, and my doctor was very happy to send me for a bone density test based on my dietary response. She also tested me for all kinds of dietary deficiencies for the same reason. And yes, you might be denied life insurance with an official celiac disease diagnosis... -
Hi Sue, and welcome to this board. The reason why it would be better if you wouldn't have any dairy products for at least six months is, that the tips of the villi produce the enzyme lactase, which allows you to digest dairy. Of course, if your villi are blunted by celiac disease, lactase is not produced, and you can't digest dairy, resulting in an intolerance...

ARCHIVED Headaches Persisting After Going Gluten-free
Ursa Major replied to jebus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jebus, I am not a doctor. I just want to let you know what stopped my migraines. I used to get very frequent migraines, and always had a headache. I found out that the migraines were caused by tomatoes. When I stopped eating them (as well as the rest of the nightshade family), my migraines went from at least one a week (and sometimes they lasted three weeks... -
Actually, if you have a forced air furnace/air conditioner (as we do), sealing the room you're working in won't stop the dust from settling all over the house, as it's blown into every room, no matter what. So, you really, really need to use a sander with an attached vacuum, which sucks up the dust as it is being generated. When we had our basement...

ARCHIVED Just Wanted To Say Thanks To Everyone For Being So Great!
Ursa Major replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You're so right about other forums. I've been a member of many forums, for fibromyalgia, Asperger Syndrome (three of those), Tourette Syndrome, and this is the first one where I've really felt safe. It seemed on other forums, the nice people (or defenseless ones, like me) get bullied until they leave. Here, any bullies that start treating others badly... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Fondue?
Ursa Major replied to kandichick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay, there is obviously ONE ingredient that is impossible for somebody with celiac disease: I hope you weren't going to use regular French bread, as of course, it's made with wheat. Otherwise, the only other thing I see that might be questionable is Kirsch, because I don't have a clue about alcohol, since I am intolerant to all alcoholic beverages... -

ARCHIVED Do People Who Have True Celiac - Not Gluten Intolerance
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cassidy, yes, it is possible to have a negative blood test and to have celiac disease. Those blood tests aren't that reliable, and can yield false negatives, as can the biopsies. But if you feel better being gluten-free, it really isn't that important if it is celiac disease or gluten intolerance, is it? The treatment is exactly the same, which is the... -
Kathy Ann, unfortunately, you're right. I hear that drywall does contain gluten, as well as some brands of paper plates and paper towels. I imagine the same goes for wallpaper and the glue (or especially the glue) that is pasted onto it. So, if you're scraping off old wallpaper, you better wear a face mask. And wash your hands well (or better yet, wear...

You could say "gluten intolerant", which is the same as gluten sensitive, but sounds more serious. And if people think it's an allergy, they should think serious allergy. Nobody would think a peanut allergy is not serious, either. Ah, now you're getting it. Yes, celiac disease is just one of many possible ways a gluten intolerance can show up. It's about...
