  1. Oats in shampoos, or any personal care items, are better avoided.
  2. You could always get the gene test from Enterolab, as Dr. Fine tests for two gluten sensitivity genes most other doctors haven't even heard of yet. Eventually (hopefully soon) he'll be publishing his research, and others will recognize the validity of it, and start testing for those genes as well. I have no idea if I would officially be diagnosed with...
  3. I'd just let him know that you KNOW gluten makes Tyler awfully sick, you HAVE done the challenge already, and have no intention of making him sick on purpose now. Period.
  4. It said in my little window that gave me the choice to download it, that you can uninstall it if you don't like it. Go to your control panel, click on the 'Add or remove programs' icon, find IE7, click on it, click on uninstall, and you should be able to get rid of it again. I just watched both the videos, and was very impressed. Even though, yes, improvements...
  5. I am taking a web design course at my local community college, and my instructor told us last Wednesday that IE7 is terrible, and the college has told everybody that they're not allowed to download it, because it would mess up a lot of stuff. Just in the nick of time, because when I got home, there was my little upgrade icon (I will absolutely NOT enable...
  6. Well, Happy Birthday, Tiffany! What a nice thing for your coworkers to do. I am sure it makes work more enjoyable when your coworkers care enough about you to figure out what you can and can't have, and make a thoughtful gift like that. Have fun tomorrow!
  7. Nicole, have you tried him on the gluten-free diet? The only way to find out if it would help, would be to do it. Something is obviously wrong, he sounds like me, and I am going through menopause!
  8. Here are the substitutes my daughter uses (my oldest granddaughter is intolerant to the combination of grain and egg, and my daughter is intolerant to corn, and cornstarch is an ingredient in baking powder). Egg as a binding agent: 1/4 cup ground flaxseed 3/4 cup water Bring water with flaxseed to a boil in small pot, reduce heat and simmer, stirring...
  9. Thanks, Sandy, very informative. It is good to know the facts.
  10. Hi Craig, and welcome to this board. You're right in suspecting that this doctor is absolutely clueless about celiac disease. I don't believe all of the cereals he listed as gluten-free, actually are. And if he took the biopsy, I wouldn't trust him to biopsy the right spots, either, and it might very well come back a false negative. The good thing is,...
  11. Corn gluten should be safe (unless you're intolerant to corn), but I think Quaker rice cakes may not be. Hopefully somebody else is more knowledgeable than me on this.
  12. Your baby could be intolerant to all grains, not just gluten containing ones. That would explain the problem with oats and rice, too. Maybe her digestive system is simply not ready for grains! Why not just feed her vegetables, fruit, some meat and breast milk until she is at least a year old. In fact, nobody needs any grains at all to be healthy. Given...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Mercola

Loraleena, you are misinformed on the metabolic typing diet. His diet is a no-grain diet, no matter what type you are. You can easily get all the carbohydrates you need from just vegetables if you're a carbohydrate type. I have his book "Dr. Mercola's Total Health Cookbook and Program". The cookbook part is 150 grain-free recipes. The recipes are especially...
  14. I doubt there is gluten in pork. But I react to pork for some reason, and I am not eating it, either. I have read something like what you posted some time ago, and that sure made me not want to eat it, anyway.

    ARCHIVED Dr. Mercola

If you are able to see him, I say go for it. He may very well be able to help you.
  16. Even though scientists are admitting that the two celiac disease genes they've found are probably not the only ones, doctors act like they are, and that you can't have celiac disease if you don't have those two genes. I've read stories of people who don't have either gene, but had a positive biopsy. Dr. Fine (Enterolab) has identified two more genes for...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Mercola

No, but if I would live close enough, I sure would try!
  18. There is no one answer to that. What works for one person might not work for another. Lots of people like using morphine, and can't tolerate codeine. I am intolerant to morphine, and take codeine without any side effects at all (other than being dopey when taking more than 50 mg). For others something else will work best. You and your doctor will need...
  19. I don't believe Tums are gluten-free.
  20. No way, I am not going there. I used to be a member of a fibromyalgia board for several years (very nice people, by the way, even though most of them couldn't spell if their life depended on it ). After finding out about celiac disease, and my other intolerances, I posted there, thinking people would be happy to possibly have the choice of giving up some...
  21. That sounds really nice. But only if you aren't intolerant to salicylates, it would make me very ill. I am just throwing that out as a precaution, not to say that this isn't a great vitamin. I would love a liquid vitamin, as I don't do well taking pills. So, unless you can't tolerate herbs and juices, this one sounds like a good choice.
  22. If you suspect coffee may be a problem, this is what I would do: Give it up for four weeks, noting any difference you feel (withdrawal for the first week or so might be expected, but everybody is different). Then, after a month, you drink it again, again noting how it makes you feel. If you truly believe it doesn't cause any health or mental problems, then...
  23. I take the hypoallergenic multi vitamins from Open Original Shared Link. If you aren't sure you can tolerate them, then order their trial size before you get the big containers. That way you can make sure you do well with them, before spending a lot of money.
  24. I have been thinking more on this subject of genetics. Hineini, in the end, EVERYTHING your body does could have a genetic cause. Sometimes allergies and intolerances are acquired, by eating that food too much, for instance. Still, you probably had a genetic predisposition to develop that intolerance. Sometimes you're born with an intolerance. I have...
  25. Anne, it is very likely that in time you'll be able to tolerate more foods. Sometimes low thyroid function can be the cause of allergies and/or intolerances, as it will cause your bowels to be sluggish, and not functioning right. The same goes for adrenal fatigue/burnout. You might want to try the hypoallergenic vitamins from Open Original Shared Link...
