    ARCHIVED Doctor?

After being gluten free for eight months, you might have to be back on gluten for possibly a year or more, before you would test positive. Meaning, you'd first have to destroy your villi again and get sick. Is it worth it? With your mother and sister having a positive diagnosis, and feeling much better gluten free, you really know you have celiac disease...
  2. I agree with Tiffany. Stainless steel is definitely the way to go, you can scrub it properly, and it's safer to use in every way.
  3. Hi, and welcome to this board. I would suggest your doctor test you for deficiencies, before supplementing with anything. It's much better to take exactly what your body needs. You should get a bone density scan, to check for osteoporosis or the early stages of it. Also, your ferritin and hemoglobin should be checked, to see how anemic you are, and if...
  4. It may not be gluten at all, but rather, that you can't tolerate soy, either. Many people here have that problem, including me. Soy is NOT a healthy alternative, despite the hype claiming it is.
  5. Thanks Kelly, at least now we know what it is called. About eight years ago (before I had a hysterectomy) I had this so often, that I went and had a pregnancy test done, because I totally felt I must be pregnant, even though I really knew I wasn't. I felt very embarrassed when the test came back negative. I now realize that it obviously was caused by celiac...
  6. If you are a carrier of the celiac gene, you would do well being on a gluten free diet anyway. Why wait until you actually get sick? And since your husband has celiac disease, and you're a carrier, there is a high risk of ALL your children having celiac disease. I do believe that what you eat will affect your unborn baby. How can it not? You're eating...
  7. I was born on May 26th, which is almost June. I checked all my siblings, parents, children etc., everyone who's birthday I know. And nothing fits anybody for whatever they're supposed to be more prone to during their birth months. Also, I know my mother had celiac disease, as well as the brother who was born on her birthday, March 5th. My sister and the brothers...
  8. Oh good grief, your doctor is as dumb as mine! Unexplained weight GAIN is also a very common symptom of celiac disease, too bad most doctors don't understand that. I kept gaining and gaining out of control, I was getting desperate! I hardly ate a thing, I tried diets, and nothing worked until I quit eating gluten and starches and a lot of other things....
  9. I just wanted to let you know that the second to fifth links don't work, and the sixth article is unreadable. The rest is very interesting. 200 bananas a week! How awful! And too many claim to be able to 'cure' the kids with the diet. Those are the people showing up here now, who got sick with all kinds of illnesses, due to eating gluten again, when they...
  10. I still had all those same symptoms AFTER my gallbladder came out more than ten years ago. And yes, those are typical symptoms for celiac disease (or can be, anyway).

    ARCHIVED Bone Pain

I used to love licorice. But if you read the ingredients, all licorice has wheat in it! You simply glutened yourself, and will have to wait it out. Hopefully the pain will go away soon, but it could take up to two weeks. Licorice is a definite no-no! And yes, gluten might cause the same horrible pain in my feet and legs for me. Especially my feet will...
  12. In case you wonder why the initial post is doubled now, I merged the first post with it's duplicate. Future Mrs. McCornell, when you don't see a topic you started right away, that is because a moderator has to approve and 'pin' it to appear at the front of the appropriate forum first. If you don't see it immediately, please don't just post it a second time...
  13. Have any of you (including the daughters) been tested for low potassium levels? That apparently causes heart palpitations and heart racing as well (it did for me). Plus, anemia will cause those symptoms. My worst heart problems happened when my ferritin was very low. Simply because your heart can't function well, when it doesn't get enough oxygen!
  14. I find that fat is the answer, if you're always hungry. Fat and meat. Without enough of either I feel like starving and overeat on starchy, sugary foods, which make me gain weight. And it is a myth that animal fats are bad for you and make you fat. Your body NEEDS saturated fats to function properly. They're not the enemy, hydrogenated fats, grains, starches...
  15. I also was diagnosed with fibro six years ago. I was in so much pain that four years ago, I was put on 50 mg of codein contin (12 hour slow release) twice a day. The pain went away at first, after going gluten and lectin free last October, but came back around Christmas. Then I figured out the salicylate intolerance, and my pain is nearly gone on the low...
  16. Well, actually, the dermatologist took the biopsy right in the middle of the rash! I guess I won't be surprised now if it will be negative. I couldn't object, because I can see that spot only in the mirror. Meaning, I had no idea where he took the biopsy, until I looked at it at home. And it's still an awful lot worse now, two weeks later, than it was before...
  17. Well, I think that if she admits you really have celiac disease, she may look at the fact that she likely has it too, and so do your siblings. They all sound like they can't tolerate gluten! Plus, she'd have to look at that it was likely her who gave you the genes. It's easier to pretend it's not really happening. It IS maddening, but try not to let it...
  18. Natural and artificial flavours could contain anything, and often gluten is one of those things I hear. I do know that tums always used to make the reflux much worse, when I tried it a few years ago.
  19. Why didn't the dermatologist do the skin biopsy? Isn't that what they're supposed to do? The dermatologist I saw did the biopsy (will get the result on June 5th..........five weeks is a long time to wait). If the cream makes it worse, just don't use it. Try something else. Mind you, I find that sometimes nothing works, and I think I am going insane with...
  20. I agree with Julie, except for one point: It's not just bell peppers, but ALL peppers (green, red, orange, yellow, those hot, spicy ones, even paprika needs to be avoided). And they don't just cause things like arthritis. Potatoes cause gastrointestinal problems for me (bloating, gas, diarrhea, which will burn my skin badly), tomatoes cause migraines for...
  21. Yep, acid reflux every time I get glutened, without fail. I don't always get diarrhea any more, but the acid reflux and stomach ache and heartburn are to be expected. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the gluten causes the acid reflux.
  22. Wow, my second-youngest daughter (20) has had chronically inflamed tonsils, and has been complaining about taking those things out of her tonsils! She went to an ENT specialist, and he only told her that he won't consider taking her tonsils out if she is not chronically ill. Just having strep throat and tonsillitis five times a year doesn't qualify (jerk...
  23. Thanks, Jen. I have a video tape for stretching, just always forget. The massage therapist gave me special stretching exercises specifically for those really bad areas. Those knots in the muscles won't release on their own, even if you stretch. They need to be massaged and worked out by massage. They don't hurt any more, unless poked, and I'm off all...

    ARCHIVED Can You Beat This

Well, if you're sick or have a sudden illness, you can always go to your hospital emergency room, or a walk-in-clinic. The biggest problem comes, when you need a referral. At least here in Canada, you can't go to ANY specialist without a referral from your family doctor. No family doctor? Too bad, can't see you. I've had it happen when my former doctor retired...
  25. Robbin, I have had myofascial pain syndrome (maybe from a severe accident when I was 15?). And the painful lumps wouldn't go away. I am now going to massage therapy once a week, after I finally found a massage therapist who is knowledgable about this. Actually, she now works in my chiropractor's office (and the two girls he had before didn't understand those...
