ARCHIVED Celiac's Diagnosis Saved My Life!
SMRI replied to Purpletie3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't eat out much any longer but when I do I first check the "Find Me Gluten Free" app on my phone. It's an ok tool but you have to read reviews and make sure they are Celiacs rating the place and not a fad dieter. I'll usually tell the waitperson that I can't have gluten vs I am gluten free. If they don't get that, I'll say I'm allergic to gluten and... -
ARCHIVED Quick Question On Recent Blood Test
SMRI replied to Jessica2813's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The units of measurement are irrelevant given she posted the normal range scale. Medical personnel in the US use metric measurements so there should not be any conversion issues. The issue with the Canadian tests is that they don't do a full panel so you just have different tests done. -
ARCHIVED I Am Completely Discouraged!
SMRI replied to Sbwife14's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Being gluten-free for only 7 days and having all of your symptoms disappear is pretty amazing. Obviously your body doesn't like something and if eating gluten-free makes you feel better, by all means, eat gluten-free. If you had complete panels done twice, it is highly unlikely you have Celiac. The false negative rate is very, very small and having tests... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Immune Deficiencies
SMRI replied to quincy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter is low IgG 2, 3, 4 but her 1 is in the normal range and her overall total is normal. Low IgG1 is generally the most "severe" and explains all of the Upper Respiratory stuff. The 2 and 4 are also respiratory but 3 is digestive and has basically the same symptoms as Celiac. You probably are not low enough to get IV treatments but see what the... -
ARCHIVED No-Cooking Celiac Options?
SMRI replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it is a boneless chicken breast, maybe 5 or 10 minutes??? I use a meat thermometer so I don't really time how long they bake but I think maybe around 30 minutes vs 20 for thawed. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms And Dq2 Test Results Is It Celiac?
SMRI replied to DQ2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they do any of the actual Celiac tests for TT IgA, etc.? It would have been helpful to have those before going gluten-free. With only being 6 weeks off gluten, I would think you may have some results if you did go back on gluten even for a week or so. It would be worth knowing. Gene testing alone is just not reliable enough, but then again, do you... -
ARCHIVED Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple
SMRI replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked for them today but no luck. I was at a Walmart several weeks ago that had a mix and match station for these but I don't remember which one. You could buy one or two. I'd like to find that in case I don't like them -
ARCHIVED I Think My Doctor Is Wrong?
SMRI replied to janedoe's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have they done an MRI or CT? Your symptoms sound like either seizures or mini-strokes. -
ARCHIVED No-Cooking Celiac Options?
SMRI replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The things I suggested are easy, which is why I posted them. The prep work for making that roast is about as difficult as warming up a can of soup, same with baked potatoes. Eating better will probably help you. -
I find that I have dreams like that about whatever if I'm obsessing about something. I was working at a place that I HATED and would dream about that place every night--nightmares. They went away after I left thankfully. It's hard not to obsess over food early on and obviously Celiac won't go away, but as it gets easier, more routine, I hope that they...

ARCHIVED Discouraged By My Dr.
SMRI replied to CanadianK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know why you put up with care like that. You pay through the nose in taxes for that medical care!!! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Test Done: High Iga And Igm Levels: Is This Precursor To ...
SMRI replied to Astrongtower's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm going to make a suggestion--get off Dr. Google and just let things rest for a few weeks. You are all over the place with what you think it wrong and I think you need to just step away for a while. I don't know what your original symptoms were that led you to the testing but maybe take 2 weeks and just breathe for a while. No one feels 100% all the... -
ARCHIVED No-Cooking Celiac Options?
SMRI replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do my roast beef in the oven. It's simple...season the beef however you want, put in a covered pan ( I use my frying pan) in the oven at 250 for 4-6 hours. It is fall apart tender and the drippings make a great gravy if you like that. You could make a larger roast and then use the meat to make soup, sandwiches, and just leftovers for the next several... -

Gluten And Soy Free Cooking Spray?

ARCHIVED Shared Facilities
SMRI replied to beth01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's not really the same thing though. Really, wiping off a counter isn't anywhere near close to cleaning wheat off a production line. -
ARCHIVED Apples, Really That Is Weird.
SMRI replied to Serielda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Certain apples have always given me stomach cramps. I can eat Honeycrisp and Regent apples without issue but some of the other apples are just to acidic or something for my stomach. -
ARCHIVED Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple
SMRI replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Angry Orchard. I'll have to look for these!! -
That is probably a good plan. The coordination of care there is just outstanding so they will look at the whole picture vs just a symptom here and there. Our last visit we stayed at the Brentwood Inn. It's connected to Mayo by their underground tunnel system. Very easy and handy!!

ARCHIVED False Negative Test Results?
SMRI replied to FoodLover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives are very rare. If I'm reading your results right, it looks like you are lactose intolerant. The only other tests I would ask for is a total IgA and IgG with subclasses. If your IgA level is normally low, that will change the results of your tt IgA. If you are low in IgG subclass 3, you will have similar symptoms of Celiac but it's not...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Interesting Article!
SMRI replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've had reasonable luck with putting gluten-free pasta in a ziplock bag with a little bit of water and keeping it in the fridge for a couple days. I've always done this with regular pasta (spaghetti anyway) for leftovers. To reheat I put sauce on the top and microwave. THere was one pasta that it didn't work so well with--I can't remember which though... -

ARCHIVED Shared Facilities
SMRI replied to beth01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is a Celiac for Dummies book out . Open Original Shared Link on I had some candy that was processed in a shared facility. People here said that they clean equipment just fine and it shouldn't be a problem. Well, it was a problem so I don't do shared facility food any more. -
ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
SMRI replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just keep in mind that there is a strong undercurrent in the Celiac community as a whole that if you have not had a positive endoscope you aren't really Celiac. Just ignore that--it's old thinking. You see some of that here, but not often. I would just accept the diagnosis and move on and forget the endoscope unless you have gone a year or so without any... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Still Positive And Stopped Falling, But Negative Dgp?
SMRI replied to greenbeanie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Other than fussiness, what else is wrong with her that makes you concerned. I have to say, 4 year olds are not all that much fun in general . It could just be her age.
