ARCHIVED New To Diet...need Help
Guhlia replied to Crystalkd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
McCormick spices will clearly list gluten so you can season your meats and veggies so they don't always taste the same. There's a huge list of companies that will divulge any gluten, but I cant remember who usually posts the list, I don't have it. For recipe ideas, it might be nice to invest in a few gluten free cookbooks. I recommend anything by Bette... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Casein Free Cheese?
Guhlia replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's a link to a previous discussion. Someone posted a TON of Gluten-free Casein-free cheese recipes here about a year ago, but I can't remember who it was, maybe AndreaB???? I'm just guessing. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Put Me Out Of My Misery...
Guhlia replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
IF your toothpaste were the culprit, you may still feel glutened even a day or so later even if you didn't use the toothpaste. Most people feel bad for a few days after a glutening. Especially if it's a repeated glutening. I have no clue if your toothpaste is gluten free or not, just thought you might wanna think about that. Also, I agree w/ the others... -
ARCHIVED How About Probiotics?
Guhlia replied to The Lovebug's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Probiotics can be very hard on sensitive stomachs. I can't take them. They make me very ill, just like I'd been glutened, even if they're gluten free. I have no other intolerances. -
ARCHIVED 13 Weeks Pregnant- Not Sure If Celiac
Guhlia replied to Ali Arizona's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Definitely wait to try gluten again until you've had the baby AND are done breastfeeding. IF you have Celiac Disease, then you will be unable to absorb key nutrients if you're eating gluten. These nutrients are what feeds your baby and prevents him/her from having birth defects, low birth weight, etc... It really isn't worth the risk. These nutrients are... -
Wow! That's scary! My bag says gluten free on it. I wonder if they changed it or if it just varies by plant.

Skittles
Guhlia replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow! That's good to hear! They didn't used to say it right on the bag. It's great when companies label as gluten free. I always support those companies as much as possible. And BTW, welcome to the forum!!! -
ARCHIVED Converting A Recipe To Gluten Free
Guhlia replied to sjust's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the flour mix that JennyC uses. It, in my opinion, is the best all purpose gluten free flour mix out there. I've used it in hundreds of regular recipes and had it come out perfectly. I usually can't even tell the difference, neither can my non-Celiac husband. -
ARCHIVED G;uten In Swimming Pools , Playgrounds, The Ocean?
Guhlia replied to abigail's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Abigail, I really don't think your playground concern is too paranoid. There have been many reports of shared phones/computers causing glutenings. I myself have gotten glutened from things far stranger than a playground swing. I would definitely have your child wash his hands or wipe them thoroughly with wet ones. I'd rather be a little "paranoid" than risk... -
ARCHIVED Would You Let Your Child Fly Alone?
Guhlia replied to StrongerToday's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, they take unattended minors VERY seriously. You have to pay a small extra fee and I don't think you can book online through Expedia or anything, but it's worth it for your daughter's safety. You can call the airline and airports to double check on their policies. They should be able to put your mind at ease. -
ARCHIVED At My Wits End
Guhlia replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually, a support group, even if headed by you, may be beneficial. If it doesn't help him, it will at least help other celiac children in your community. It may just be the simple fact that he feels "different" by having this special diet. If he meets other kids that are struggling through the same things it might give him strength. -
ARCHIVED New Here W/ptsd And Maybe Celiac
Guhlia replied to jpnman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! Yes, long term stress can lead to Celiac. Celiac is commonly misdiagnosed as IBS. There are however several other conditions that can easily result from Celiac or coexist with Celiac, but aren't really a misdiagnosis: anemia, chronic depression, osteoperosis, osteopenia, anxiety disorders, acid reflux disease, among many others. If... -

I'm so glad that your doctor sounded hopeful after your visit. That's promising. Keep us informed. And thanks!

ARCHIVED G;uten In Swimming Pools , Playgrounds, The Ocean?
Guhlia replied to abigail's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't worry about the ocean, the parts per million would likely be too low to harm a Celiac. After my daughter plays on the playground I immediately wipe her hands thoroughly with two wet ones. Then, as soon as we get home, she has to wash her hands. I don't worry too much about the swimming pool either. I've never gotten sick from swimming, even at a pool... -
ARCHIVED Please Please Please Let It Be True
Guhlia replied to alamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What kind of cereals do you generally like? Erewhon makes a really good brown rice and berries cereal that is gluten free. I enjoy sweeter cereals so I generally eat the Envirokidz Panda Puffs and Gorilla Munch. My husband swears by the Erewhon stuff. -
I haven't heard anything about this doctor. I just wanted to bump this back up to the top because I know we have someone on this board that works at Hershey Med (I think that's where she works). Hopefully she'll be able to help.

ARCHIVED Packing For A Trip....
Guhlia replied to 2ofus2kids2dogs's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kay, that is such a brilliant idea. You should start a new post so that everyone will see it. -
Most icing sugar is gluten free. If you're in a bind, you can always just make your own. It's really easy.

ARCHIVED At My Wits End
Guhlia replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think perhaps it's time to make the house gluten free. If for no other reason than your sanity. I know you've tried talking to him over and over again and it doesn't seem like you're getting through to him at all. The only other thing I think you could do is set up a strict punishment system and let him choose to lose priveleges OR stay gluten free. That... -

He he he... It is pretty funny, isn't it? Let me tell you, it wasn't very funny for the past 2 or 3 weeks as she "just wasn't making it onto the potty in time". Ugh... I can't believe I didn't think of that... Oh, the things our children do... I only wish I would have had a video camera on her for her confession. Now THAT would have been priceless!!!
