I notice they label allergens, but I just want to make sure this is a trustworthy brand. I just bought some Tesco sweet and sour sauce and I don't see any obvious sources of gluten. It doesn't list gluten on the label under the allergens section either. I assume it's safe, but since I'm currently so surrounded by Tescos I want to make sure. Thanks...

ARCHIVED I Don't Understand How The Healthy Stuff Is Bad
Mango04 replied to Dawneekoz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah - General Mills has a lot to do with nutrition-related education in the US. (I read somewhere that they actually founded one of the first schools of nutrition). -

ARCHIVED Moving To Another Country To Start A New Life
Mango04 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm also from California and I currently live in the Czech Republic (not exactly a healthier atmosphere or slower lifestyle, but the experience as a whole is definitely positive ). It's nice to be in a place where there are plenty of job opportunities and I don't have to work a horrid 9-5 just to get by. If you can do it - go for it. You can always... -
Most processed foods contain soy. If you're worried about being intolerant to soy and dairy, you can make your diet very simple for a while. This will help ease the frustration of grocery shopping as well (you don't have to read labels on fruit, veggies, meats, rice, beans etc.). You'll get the hang of it eventually and you'll figure out what works for...

ARCHIVED Granola Bars
Mango04 replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A brand called Oskri makes granola bars that say gluten-free, lactose-free on the package. I haven't ever seen them in the US but they're made in Wisconsin, so they must be available somewhere (maybe online?) They don't contain sugar and are not very sweet though (if that's what your daughter is looking for ) I really like Enjoy Life bars as well,... -
ARCHIVED Cadburys....gluten Free?
Mango04 replied to wilem008's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just want to point out that the safety of these products varies by country (a product can be unsafe in Australia but safe in the US, and vice versa). So, if someone from Australia says a product is unsafe, pay attention to which country that person is from before you stop eating your favorite candy forever. -
I just don't eat at restaurants. I still go to them, and order drinks, and then I eat my own food before or afterwards. As simprof. pointed out, people are just too uneducated about food to be able to accommodate a gluten, dairy and soy free diet, and it is just too risky. When I travel I find my way to a grocery store and mostly eat simple foods that...

What is salon fun like? Is it pinkish? -
and also people with celiac disease. It won't prevent damage from being done, but it might ease symptoms. That's worth something (even though the product shouldn't be used as an excuse to deliberately cc yourself of course )
-
But if it helps people who accidentally get cc'd, what's wrong with that?

ARCHIVED How Does Gluten Free Food Taste?
Mango04 replied to Live2BWell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are so many gluten-free foods and products available. I don't think it's possible to find a small group of adjectives that would accurately describe "all gluten-free food." In general, I think the food I eat now is much tastier than the food I ate pre-gluten-free, mainly because I have a better understanding now of nutrition, cooking, baking... -
ARCHIVED How Does Gluten Free Food Taste?
Mango04 replied to Live2BWell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It tastes like really good food (especially if you eat the real, naturally gluten-free stuff, of which there is plenty) Some gluten-free replacement products are very tasty as well. You can eat brownies, cake, pizza, muffins etc. etc. Some of it isn't exactly like the gluteny stuff - but it's still good. -
ARCHIVED Healthy Fats
Mango04 replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
True. The healthiest fats to cook with are saturated fats. It's not a good idea to heat olive oil beyond "medium" heat (on the stove) but you can bake with it safely and eat it cold. Coconut oil is very healthy (virgin, unrefined, organic) but it can be expensive. Coconut butter is good too (basically mashed up coconut meat and oil - whereas coconut... -
I recommend Everyday Minerals as well. Also, I don't know if this will help anybody, but my skin pretty much completely cleared up when I moved from the US to Europe. I break out right away though (cystic acne that leaves scars) whenever my mom sends me a box with some gluten-free goodies from home. So...I dunno. I thought I ate a whole...

ARCHIVED Juice Beauty
Mango04 replied to Dandelion's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use to use a lot of their stuff. Another poster said a while back that it was all gluten-free, but I don't know if that info. is still current. It's a good brand though. I really liked it. -
Maybe I would if I felt deprived, but there's so much gluten (and dairy and soy)-free food that I just don't feel it's necessary. I live in a bready country too where there are less gluten-free options, but there's still plenty to eat. On another note, I could be wrong, but I don't think this thread is really representative of the general celiac population...

LOL. I was just thinking I want some pasta salad to take to work for the week...hmmmm...will try the slathering in craploads of dressing method. -
gluten-free food is pretty mainstream in Australia. You can buy it at the regular grocery stores and at the health food stores. A lot of chain fast food places and restaurants have gluten-free food too. It's generally a very easy place to travel gluten-free, especially if you don't have any other allergies or intolerances. If you're bringing electrical...

The amount of water definitely makes a difference. Make sure you use a very large pot and tons and tons of water. It helps to stir the pasta right after you add it to the water as well.
