  1. My husband is from the Midwest and grew up on homemade noodles. When I was diagnosed Celiac he was very supportive and eats gluten-free with me...completely gluten-free kitchen. I knew I had to find a noodle recipe that would satisfy his noodle needs in appreciation for his support. A recipe on this site in the recipe index https://www.celiac.com/st...
  2. I'm in Oxford. Oh, cool, the Viking School! I considered doing that. I'll be anxious to hear from you re: your experience there. The next time I know that I'll be in Jackson is in Feb for the MECA (MS Educational Computing Assoc) conference. Have you found any restaurants where you can safely eat?
  3. Yes! I loved Lifeway Kefir before I realized I was dairy intolerant early in my gluten-free days about a year ago. I am now successfully beginning to add dairy back into my diet (slowly). I haven't tried Kefir yet, but I am anxious to. I think it will really help that yucky gut feeling....it was strange, because in one way it made my stomach feel better...
  4. I have had problems with Fritos and now avoid all Frito Lay products. I'm sure it depends on where in the run your bag of chips comes from. Twice burned (undeniably) and I'm done. Here's a GREAT treat that chocolate lovers of all ages will love.....My dh found these for me at Wild Oats and I love, love him for it.....It's a treat...not really cookie...
  5. I'm not positive....please check further, but I think miniature Snickers are ok, just not miniature Hersheys. Well, I'll go look now. Later.... Yeah, everything I'm finding indicates that all sizes of Snickers are gluten free. It is Hershey's that uses flour or something on the lines of it's miniatures. Snickers is a Mars product. Just FYI I found...
  6. I have also eaten their plain rice...I love their wild rice mix whatever it's called (it's not seasoned). I also, do not usually buy pre-seasoned stuff, but saw this on the grocery shelf and thought it would be good for one of those hurry up, barely have time to eat, nights. I have not heard from Lundberg Farms in response to my e-mail. (See below) If...
  7. I recently bought a Lundberg's Rice Express (Classic Beef) because right on the front it says "Gluten Free." Fortunately before I ate any I read the ingredient label. One of the ingredients is Malt Extract. I have e-mailed Lundberg Family Farms and asked them to remove their "gluten free" label for the sake of Celiacs. Just be aware....READ, READ, READ
  8. I'm north of you about 2 1/2 hours, but am in Jackson several times a year. Warning: the Outback on Frontage (?) not too far south of County Line was my worst "should be gluten-free but wasn't" experience I've had.
  9. Yes, I run Firefox as my primary browser, but often I run into a glitch with videos, espectially from the msn site. IF your computer has a Windows OS, though you should have Internet Explorer even if you're not using it. (Look around, I bet it's there.) There's even a Firefox plugin that you can download that will allow you to right-click and choose (Open...
  10. I do not find the book to be useful. I wish I had not spent my money on it. I bought the book and the cards. As for the cards....don't leave home without them. Like Elwony, they are ALWAYS in my purse. The cards are amazing, fabulous, and a dining out Celiac's best friend. That said, I still don't eat out very often. For me it's not worth the CC...
  11. I have not traveled to Gulfport since diagnosis last December, but there is a large diagnosed Celiac population in that area! I know that they used to have a couple of very active Celiac-support groups. I say used to because I don't know what's still in place or rebuilt in the way of support groups post-Katrina. A quick Google search turned this up Open...
  12. You have to buy extra memory for your Treo to be able to carry all your gluten-free food and restaurant suggestions
  13. My experience doesn't quite fit your request, but I'll toss in my .02 I have a 2000 Camry and I love it....it just keeps going and going and going. We've done regular maintenance but it has needed no repairs just new brakes and new tires. A couple of years ago we looked into a new one, but the seats were not as comfortable so I just stayed with my...
  14. So just exactly what's wrong with "fixin' to to do something"? Except that around here, it's "fisin' to"....like prounouncing the entire "x" is too much effort so you just say the "ssss" part of the sound. "I'm fisin' to clean the kitchen."
  15. WHAT???? You got to sit up and just go back and forth every ten minutes for the scan?????? I had a gastric emptying in the Spring, and I had to stay flat on my back on the table for 2 hours and wasn't allowed to move. They told me I could read if I could do it without moving, but there was no way to get the book in view because of the bulky machine. ...
  16. I'm not sure where to get them. Can you tell me? Thanks, Jennyj, for your suggestion of Mission brand, too. Yes, I've tried Mission. I don't know. There was a thread on here a couple of mos ago about corn tortillas. I've tried all of the ones that I could find around here. I get sick every time. But I can eat On the Border tortilla chips and many...
  17. Glad you've kept your sense of humor! Hang in there....maybe umbilical hernia repairs cause euphoria too!!!
  18. I miss..... the convenience of eating whatever I want, wherever I am while shopping, etc the ability to get carry out for supper after a long day (without worrying about CC) being able to sit down and order a meal without having to talk with mgmt and explain gluten and choose carefully and still worry about whether or not I'll get sick I also miss Pizza Hut...
  19. I have tried several things to form hamburger buns. Recently I have hit on something that really worked well... At Williams-Sonoma I found some mini Springform pans. (Reasonably priced about $5 each) They are about the size of large store-bought hamburger buns. I've made buns with them a couple of times now with Chebe mixes. I have left the base in...
  20. At least if they weren't going to take a more positive move towards ensuring gluten-free, they did take a more honest approach to their labeling. I'd settle for more companies doing that!
  21. Hey Mtndog formerly Berneses! Wow, that stinks that you need another surgery! I thought of you when I read this post, and I thought....hmmm, just how many of us had mid-May gallbladderectomies. Has living a gallbladderless life been as grand for you as for me? Sadly though the euphoria did subside....in my case probably terminated early due to some difficult...
  22. The damage doesn't heal overnight just like it doesn't happen overnight. I am 9 mos gluten-free, and am just now tolerating even most gluten-free foods. He should stick with fresh, "whole" foods rather than processed foods. Baked chicken, rice, kale, bananas (and, oddly, apples) were about the only foods that I could tolerate for a long time, until real...
  23. 2 mixing paddles strong motor 1st time only easy program to input, and great gluten-free bread by hitting "start" from then on Evenly cooks and browns to "just right"...never over/under done clean up is very quick and easy (read directions, allow to cool before cleaning) no need to scrape sides during mixing I'm sure there's more. It's just a trouble-free...
  24. Vance's Dari-Free for me, too! I did not object to the taste at first, but it took me a week or two to really LIKE it. It doesn't taste exactly like milk....but what does???? It is mild, and doesn't alter any taste like someone else already mentioned. I like it with my cereal and even drink it when I just need that glass of milk.
  25. It's super easy! And SO delicious!!! My non-gluten-free dh can eat the entire loaf in 2 days. I use Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix. (Which answers someone else's question. I haven't tried Anna's, because once we tried this mix, we just stopped looking....YUM!!!) Anyway, on the side of Pamela's AWFB mix, options are listed which include: 2 c...
