  1. I get severe stomach pain when I eat gluten. I was diagnosed with IBS for years before I found out it was gluten causing the problem. Usually it is sharp pain and I can't even stand up straight, I have to lay down. It is mid-stomach and intestinal. Sometimes I would get diarrhea, sometimes constipation. Now that I am gluten-free, I feel so much better...
  2. This has happened to me in the past, too. Before I went gluten-free, I would get hives for no apparent reason. I went to the dr and they put me on prednisone. They went away until I was done with the steroids. Then I went to an allergist. He put me on Claritin and as long as I take that, the stay away for the most part. If I don't take my Claritin for...
  3. I take Natrol. I found them at my local grocery store and they are free of gluten, milk, soy, corn, egg, yeast, artificial colors & flavors, added starch or preservatives. They seem to work very well for me. I had stopped taking it for a while, but had to take antibiotics for an ear infection a few weeks back and these really helped with the intestinal...
  4. Thanks so much for all the wonderful ideas! We do drink, so wine is a nice idea. We do allow gluten in the house b/c DH is not gluten-free and neither is DD at this point (hopefully she stays that way). DH may see them tonight, so he will either talk to them then or I'll email her back tomorrow. Thanks again!
  5. We are having some friends over for dinner on Friday and they asked what they can bring. I told them not to bring anything but themselves and their kids. Then she said (via email) that she was going to bring veggies & cheese (fine) and dessert, cookies & brownies. I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I also don't want to hurt her feelings when...
  6. YUM!!! I was going to make these today, but didn't have enough butter. I am definitely making them next week....YUM!!
  7. OMG...that sounds heavenly!!! I have given up soy for the most part too, but may have to give that a try. It may not be enough to bother me.
  8. A lot of them have the little International Delights creamers in different flavors and those are gluten-free according to their website.
  9. You could make instand mashed potatoes (Potato Buds are gluten-free) in the microwave....really simple when you don't feel like cooking!
  10. Feedback is optional on ebay. I sell a lot on Ebay and usually don't leave feedback until I have heard from the buyer, either by email or thier leaving feedback, to make sure they are satisfied. This way if there is a problem, I have the chance to remedy the situation so that everyone is happy. that being said, I would never dream of begging someone for...
  11. Now I am curious! LOL! I'll let you know when I get the book from her.
  12. Oh yes, the beer!! I almost forgot that they sell Bard's Tale either individually or by the 6 pack. DS loves going there to pick out his gluten-free goodies (not beer ) Glad you found some good stuff!!!
  13. I shop at the Raisin Rack at least once per week and they have a wonderful selection of gluten-free products. They are off of Schrock Rd. in Westerville. They will be moving to a larger location across the street in November. Oh, you can also order online at their website and then just go in and pick up your order....very nice!!!!
  14. Thanks!!! I don't mind at all! I have been very busy this week, so am just now checking in. That does look like the recipe (MIL still has my book), but I thought it said apple cider vinegar instead of rice, I could be wrong. I know that Bette has this recipe in several of her books, though, so she may have switched it up. I still am amazed with how...
  15. Krispy Kreme donuts, Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Charley's grilled subs & fries. All stuff that is bad for you and that I didn't eat all the time, but just the fact that I CAN'T have them makes me miss them. Oh, I do miss tortellini, can't see myself making that from scratch! LOL!
  16. Yuck!! Deep fried mac & cheese and green beans? Although, we used to go to brunch at this place on the other side of town that had a dish called "Pasta Salvi" which was basically fettucini alfredo that was deep fried into these squares and then topped with some marinara sauce....it was heavenly. I ate it before I knew what it was (on a brunch...
  17. I was going to go (we live in Columbus) and Mary Kay Sharett is DS's dietician, but that is our 6th wedding anniversary! I really wanted DS to go too and meet some other kids his age that go through what he does.
  18. Another vote for the Zojirushi!! I love mine. I still have to figure out how to program it for the gluten-free bread, though! LOL! I think it is rising twice and really only needs to once.
  19. MIL made us a gluten-free pie today from the pie crust recipe in The Gluten-Free Gourmet (Comfort Foods) by Bette Hagman and it was amazing!!! The crust is flaky and SO yummy!!! Even picky DS liked it and said it was better than "normal" apple pie! He wants a pumpkin pie next! LOL! So, if you are looking for a good pie crust, this one rocks!! I...
  20. Thanks so much for the ideas! He does like Instant Breakfast, so maybe I will have him double up or do one for dinner, too. He is also a big milkshake fan. Good idea about rechecking his bloodwork now. He is supposed to go back in January, but that may not be soon enough if he continues to lose weight. Thanks again!
  21. DS just asked for this today and I got the Amy's Creamy Tomato soup and we have the Gluten-Free Pantry French Bread. I can't wait to try it, too!
  22. Oh wow....I am sorry that you had such a rough time!! I do have to second the Triumph Dining cards. They have made eating out for me so much more pleasant. I eat at Cheeseburger in Paradise once per week and I give my card to the server every time and they take it back to the person cooking my meal and the manager. The card is in English on the front...
  23. I had a LEEP done last June (2005). I didn't think that it was bad at all (except the anesthetic mentioned above makng me feel weird) and was able to drive myself home. I did have some cramping for a few days, but that was about all.
  24. DS started the gluten-free diet July 15th. He had been weighing in at around 87 pounds at home (I think he was 83 or so at the dr, though). He got on the scale this morning and was 80 pounds. He has been kind of picky with the foods that he eats, but still eats a decent amount. He hasn't been any more active than normal, if anything maybe less active...
  25. Update: I just spoke with them by phone and they said that all of their products are gluten-free EXCEPT their sandwich products, sausage balls and gravy. Wanted to share that here for others who are curious.
