  1. Sometimes misery loves company. It was something I could show my kids and say, "Look how many other people have this!!?" You are not alone.
  2. An Endocronologist is the specialist for thyroid disease.
  3. Getting food stuck in your throat is a symptom of Eosinophilic Esophagitus. There is a known connection to Celiac and EoE.
  4. My daughter has both Celaic and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. There is a connection between the two. She was just too sick to get the endoscopy when she was diagnosed with "probable" Celiac (blood panel and genetic test). She was 15 months old and was hospitalized for dehydration trying to eat gluten for the testing. She was hospitalized on average once...
  5. Barley (malt), rye, and oats did not make the top 8 allegergens list that they MUST post.
  6. This is just my 2 cents in the pot now.. 2 positive blood tests, at different blood draw times / labs, and a family history definately Celiac needing to be on a gluten free diet. An endoscopy at this point *may* give you a report on the amount of damage that has occurred before changing the diet. This can be a "baseline" reading if it ever needs to...
  7. My husband would balk at the price too, but he would get the chocolate too. He knows life is better with chocolate. (He grew up with 5 sisters!)
  8. I have heard of a gluten free diet can be helpful for any auto-immune disease. Take gluten and the top 8 allergens list, these are the hardest known proteins for the human body to handle. It would make sense that an already compromised immune system may have more difficulty handling these proteins in the diet. There is not a medical test "proving" this...
  9. Gluten can be a "trigger" food for Eosinophilic Esophagitus, another auto-immune disease. There is a known connection between Celiac and EoE. New diagnosed cases of EoE should be automatic testing for Celiac.
  10. In undiagnosed Celiac disease there is also the chance of a non functioning gall bladder. A few cases of diagnoses have had the gall bladder removed to be later diagnosed with Celiac.
  11. A friend of a friend uses $10 a month and coupons to donate to food pantries. (Usually she turns it into a $300 donation) She has the bug to do this and found a positive way to help the community. It has to be illegal to get a huge stack of coupons like they have on that show.
  12. There are some hairdressers that do work from home. (Usually the ones who developed allergies.) Ask around. Especially if it is a really nice cut. Get the hairdresser's name and number and ask them personally for a time the salon is not busy. If it is a closer connection, you may be able to make arrangements for a home visit.
  13. I also think that prison inmates (that will be getting released) should have job training. I did tour the ancient Jackson, Mi prison. that is now being refurbished to low income artist homes and sales studio spaces. The artist has home space on upper levels and the lowest level is workspace offices. In the tour it was mentioned that the prison ran...
  14. Happy New Year!!! We survived another year! (Maya doomesday indeed!!?) May you find peace and happiness (a little more wealth won't hurt) this year.
  15. You have to be working with a pediatric gastroenterologist. With the "reflux", close symptoms to Celiac, and food (protein) "triggers" it does sound like Eosinophilic Esophagitus. (There is a connection between the 2 and my daughter has both.) Has a hernia been completely ruled out? My kids also had missing tooth enamel, which makes them cavity prone...
  16. I think there is enough reputable research out there that a gluten free diet is helpful for Crohn's Disease for you to try the diet. (I do realize you mentioned ulcerative colitus, not Crohn's.) You have to remember that if gluten is an issue for you, you have probably consumed in part of every meal. (Especially if you have followed doctors orders to...
  17. Excellent question four leaf. Yes. Other organs can be affected when Celiac an auto-immune disease is present and untreated. Some of the most common connections to Celiac.... Diabetes High abnormal liver enzymes (usually resolves once gluten free) auto-immune thyroid disease, Grave's and Hashimoto's some things associated with damage to the gut...
  18. It is possible to have some very nice gluten free bred. Everyone seems very happy with Udi's. We can not have that because it has eggs in the ingredients. I used to make bread from the Gluten free pantry mixes. (Use a kitchenaid or other very strong mixer. Keep mixing until you see the paddle making grooves in the batter. Put into your pans and sometimes...
  19. It should be ordered tests from the biopsy samples. Eosinophils can be deeply embedded in normal looking tissue. It becomes apparent when the sample has been exposed to dye.
  20. Welcome 4 leaf! Print out a copy of your "novel". In about 2 years on the gluten free diet, compare to see how many symptoms have resolved. Keep a food journal! It can help find hidden gluten, cross contamination, and other food intolerances. I do want you to be aware of some things about starting a gluten free diet. There can be a "withdrawal...
  21. We are so much better off than just 8 years ago! There are more products in normal grocery stores. In our early days we had to go to specific health food stores. You better believe gluten free products/ flours were right next to "extra" gluten mix bags. There are so many mainstream products that reformulated to be gluten free (some Chex cereals).
  22. If you are changing your diet, a food journal can be very helpful. It can help track down hidden gluten and find other food intolerances.
  23. The pathologists would have to follow what the doctor orders for testing. If the doctor doesn't order the test it isn't done. Keeping record of type of reaction is difficult with eosinophils ~ because once activated, it can remain active for 12 days.
  24. My daughter never had a blood test for eosinphil count. She was diagnosed by the count and damage in the esophagus.
  25. I don't think your symptoms are from Celiac. (everyone can have individual reactions, but this is not common amongst the chatters here)
