  1. Did you get your thyroid tested for Hashimoto's thyroiditis? It is harder to get diagnosed as some of the test results come back in "normal" ranges, if the doctor did not order the tests for the auto immune disease. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's before going gluten free. I did have to adjust the medication level to a lower dose, as my get was absorbing...
  2. Dried figs ~ serving size is about 4 figs 1/4 of a cup, 110 calories, 0 fat, cholesterol, sodium 240 mg potassium, 26grams total carbs 5 grams of fiber, SUGARS 20 grams The higher amount of potassium with 6% of daily value magnesium with fiber can have a laxative effect. I'm not sure if that will be able to work with your diet.
  3. I should also add that eosinophilic disorders can be anywhere along the GI tract. Eosinophilic Gastro intestinal Disorders (EGID) As I watched my daughter suffer before diagnoses, "D" is also a symptom for Eosinphilic Esophagitis. I hope recovery is going well. Were any Schatzi rings, furrowing, or eosinophils found during the scope?
  4. Keep a food journal to track down any other food sensitivities. It could be your gall bladder.
  5. Gluten and the top 8 allergens are the more complex protein chains for the body to break down and digest. If the body is already stressed, these foods are possibly just adding more stress to the system. It is not fully understood why a gluten free diet is helping many individuals with auto immune diseases (even some mental disorders).
  6. Other studies suggest apple cider vinegar and cherries. The amount of cherry juice would be about 45 cherries a day and I'm not sure if any tablet form shows the same preliminary results.
  7. So sorry to hear that Barty. Can you start looking into more homeopathic remedies? Any research on medical marijuana?, such as the oil that can have the chemical compound removed that causes the "high" ? I know someone using it for the joint pain from cancer treatment. It seems to be working well for the joint pain and with chemo therapy the tumors...
  8. If gluten is suspected to be a trigger for Eosinophilic Esophagitis, one week prior exposure might give a positive result. Once acitivated, Eosinophils can remain active for 12 days destroying normal tissue. Samples will have to be tested specifically for eosinophils with red dye by a pathologist. Most cases of EE are diagnosed during late summer early...
  9. I just want to reassure you moms. My daughter was diagnosed with "probable" Celiac when she was 16 months old. (She was too sick for the endoscopy, One positive on the Celiac panel, positive for both DQ2 and DQ8 genes) She went gluten free and her health improved and she was growing. The fall she was turning 6 everything went bad. It seemed like glutening...
  10. The general thinking: People can have a gene associated with Celiac. DQ2 and DQ8 are the most recognized Celiac genes. (Not the only genes associated with Celiac.) Something has to "trigger" the immune system to start attacking healthy tissue. Any illness, or stress can be a possible trigger. EBV has been mentioned by quite a few posters here. But...
  11. There is an add on the side bar explaining the gluten free cheerios. The oats are sifted to separate wheat, rye, and barley out. The finished product has then been tested to be labeled gluten free. I will try them. I do have some problems digesting oats, because I have not been eating them for YEARS.
  12. My daughter was hospitalized for dehydration numerous times. She is Celiac and also has Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). Dehydration is very serious and the body does start a shutting down process to protect vital organs. She would just start vomiting and within 2 to 3 hours she was severely dehydrated. sunken eyes, chapped lips lethargic, and it gets really...
  13. That 12 reasons not to have a peanut free school writer is a real whack job. I would guess she is a psychopath, as she clearly has NO empathy for other humans (small children of school age) I have never met a person who had "entitlement issues" because they avoid an allergen for medical reasons. It sounds as if Her "picky eater" child has demanded peanuts...
  14. Not a lot of peer reviewed medical journal reports, but some reports are from Celiacs on a gluten free diet. From comments on the link.. Not developing effective titers from vaccine lead up to be diagnosed with Celiac and about 5 posters were diagnosed on a gluten free diet and did not get to an effective immunity. One poster went through 3 rounds...
  15. Thanks Karen, I was hoping for a little more information. Like, do Celiacs need to go through the series 2 times, 3 times?
  16. Like stated this is not a vaccine debate. Thank you for sharing the information, because it is an important piece of information. Can you please post a link to the article?
  17. I know someone here will explain this better than what I can.
  18. Health insurance issues stopped me from getting my daughter tested for stomach migraines. She was diagnosed with Celiac at about 16 months old, Eosinophilic Esophagitis at the age of 6, and seems to be doing much better now. She would go into vomiting cycles with sever gut pain and need to be put on I.V.'s for dehydration. (it was once a year at least...
  19. I'm glad you are going in for testing. My sister just had to have her thyroid removed from going way to long without having Hashimoto's thyroiditis diagnosed. Her thyroid (in this case Goiter is the correct term) had grown up into her jawline and down into her collarbone. On one side it was down past that collarbone putting pressure in her chest. The biopsy...
  20. I would suggest further testing. Going to a different doctor may not be called for, as the current doctor has the full testing reports and history with your son. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac when she was 16/ 17 months old. She was then diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis when she was 6. Young children present with symptoms that can be...
  21. I bought them before they put gluten free on the label. It made it easier to just read "gluten free" on the label, but it was pretty clear which products are gluten free from reading ingredients. My family has been gluten free for over 10 years. I can tell you 10 years ago there weren't as many main stream products available at the grocery store labeled...
  22. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac at 16 months old. Gluten symptoms were "D" and vomit. Long term symptoms dark circles, tired and not gaining weight. She was diagnosed with EE when she was 6 years old. Some of the symptoms.... "D" and constipation (constipation was diagnosed by doctors feeling lumps in her bowels, but seriously the kids had explosive...
  23. Shanasun, You have mentioned Eosinophilic Esophagitis twice in your posts. EE can be affected by environmental and seasonal allergens. You can't really avoid allergens unless you have identified them. Allergy testing can be an option~but EE reaction is not a true allergy. The EE symptoms are "gluten" like, but much more severe. Add the fact that...
  24. Barty! I am so happy for you. When heaven and earth align just so two bruised hearts can find each other to love, it is bliss. May you two make many happy memories! I do hope Harold and Grommit are getting along in the after life.
  25. I would go to the GI doc, but not do the gluten challenge. Some of your issues resolved on a gluten free diet, but you are still having issues that could be symptoms for another disorder. My daughter is also DQ2 and DQ8 positive. A gluten challenge when she was going through Celiac testing at the age of @ 15 months old put her in the hospital for dehydration...
