ARCHIVED Finally Got Genetic Testing Results
mommida replied to cityelle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is the "normal" way of getting diagnosed for Celiac when you are eating gluten. All the Celiac genes are not identified yet. (They were asking for volunteers for genetic testing a few years back. It could have been 11 years ago by now. ) If you have figured out eating gluten makes you sick, just don't eat it. If you need a label, you are... -
Does Anyone Know How To Kill Or "inactivate" Gluten?
mommida replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you happen to use any spray starch in the sewing room? Haven't used spray starch in years to even check if wheat starch is in the ingredients. What about getting a glass top for the coarse wood table? (If it is a special order size piece of glass, don't forget to get the edges polished. You are fully adopted part of the family here now. You... -
Egg Allergy/intolerance After Effect Of Celiac?
mommida replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The top 8 allergens are the most complex protein chains to digest. Learning to cook gluten free and egg free is quite challenging. I noticed a lot of gluten free cooking relies on the eggs to build more texture. There are a lot of ways to replace eggs in baking, but keep in mind what you are replaces the egg for. Texture (light and fluffy), taste... -
ARCHIVED High IgG due to Synthetic Dye Intolerance?
mommida replied to Jenny's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ummm.. Look at your daughter's throat. Are the tonsils enlarged? Are there creamy spots on the tonsils, back of throat, or tongue. Does her breath/ throat/mouth have a bad smell? You may have found an "allergen" for her, but what exactly is the reaction she is having? If there is any sign of the above you seriously need to look at information... -
ARCHIVED Delay or decline endoscopy for 4 year old?
mommida replied to Edensmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's now or never for the endoscopy. Putting your child back on gluten for testing in the future would be cruel and dangerous. (sometimes reactions after starting a gluten free diet can be more severe, and this can lead to dehydration in young children -life threatening situation that requires an IV) There are reasons to do an endoscopy at this point... -
ARCHIVED Allergic Reaction To Crisco???
mommida replied to Mitchie K's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could be having issues with high fat. If your gut has not healed from recently diagnosed Celiac. Or keep an eye on your gall bladder. -
ARCHIVED My test results scare me
mommida replied to iBelieve's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think I am the best at explaining test results. Kind of guessing at your test question. ANA is Antinuclear antibodies level. This is a count of abnormal antibodies that can be attacking normal body tissue indicating an auto immune disease. There is such a thing as gluten withdrawal. In some individuals there can be an opiate like reaction when... -
ARCHIVED Test results -Family/Friends Relations
mommida replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I end up posting this a lot. You really find out who your friends are when Auto immune issues like Celiac show up. The nasty details of physical symptoms Celiacs deal with make it hard to discuss face to face. We find out family and people you thought were your friends can't be bothered by going to the restaurant with a gluten free menu. It is one of the... -
ARCHIVED Usa-Spain student exchange of gluten intolerant kids
mommida replied to Jose Manuel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you looked into 4H student exchange? 4H works with colleges and universities extension. It is more common for farming communities to be involved with, and does not as much as other organizations. Good luck. -
I recently had my cholesterol level checked. No surprises there, it is always high. So I listened to my lecture and really tried to make some diet changes. Well how exactly do I cut out more carbs when I've been on a gluten free diet for over 10 years?Years of pasta and bread making me sick, I really don't indulge that often on gluten-free replacements...

ARCHIVED Perhaps I was a bit hasty? Numbness, Tingling?
mommida replied to Ender's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are the areas of numbness cold? Do you have any other signs of poor circulation. (fine "mushy" hair, messed up fingernails, cold feet/hands that turn blue/purpleish)? -
ARCHIVED One year gluten-free, perhaps time to move on
mommida replied to danielakadaniel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eosinophilic reactions are like Celiac symptoms a hundred times-fold. Celiac is your immune system attacking your body tissue, an eosinophil is the top of the line immune defense white blood cell complete with a small shaft/spear of destruction. Even the weakest eosinophil continues to cause damage for up to 12 days. You need more time to heal. I strongly... -
ARCHIVED Blood work and ultrasound results came back.
mommida replied to Victor10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your spleen is a "mysterious" part of your immune system. They don't know the exact amount of control it contributes to your immune system, but it is part of it. Severe stress does wreck havoc on your immune system. A recent mono infection, could still be taxing your immune system too. Calm down. Stress doesn't do anything good to your body. -

You can continue the beer hobby, if you make it gluten free yourself. That being said, oh my God, if someone would just start making some good gluten free beer!!? You'll make a fortune if you can do it! -
ARCHIVED Is tastee Apple( Caramel Apples) Gluten free
mommida replied to Bethanylynn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have a label to read, so I can only say most times caramel apples (plain) don't have gluten. I have just read an article on caramel apples being a risk for Listeria. The apple juice released from being pierced with the stick can grow the bacteria under the layer of caramel. (even refrigerated caramel apples grew ~lesser amount of~ bacteria. So caramel... -

ARCHIVED Gluten sensitive or insane?
mommida replied to queensketch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you know how many people could not get a diagnoses in a timely manner from doctors? Articles ten years ago put an average of 10 years for Celiac diagnoses. 10 YEARS! Doctors don't get paid by the insurance company if they don't write in a diagnoses. So they write in in IBS as a diagnoses. I won't even go into what a sad excuse for a doctor screwed up... -
ARCHIVED Celiac and Anxiety in 7yr old
mommida replied to Sue M's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A gluten challenge can be dangerous for young children. My daughter ended up hospitalized for dehydration. (She was 16 months old.) The panel was drawn. She had 2 positives. The scope was not done at that time because she was so sick. (Diagnosed as probable Celiac positive genetic testing for DQ2 and DQ8 along with improvement on a gluten free diet... -
ARCHIVED Blood work and ultrasound results came back.
mommida replied to Victor10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No offense, but I'm gonna guess it's stress. I believe someone suggested probiotics would be a good place to start. Scott just posted an article that shows negative gut bacteria and a greater link to Celiac. Keep a food journal to help track down a food intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Blood work and ultrasound results came back.
mommida replied to Victor10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had mono without knowing I had mono. Why don't you start looking into gluten free recipes/ healthier eating? When testing is over give the gluten free diet a try, especially if you get an IBS diagnoses. -

ARCHIVED Symptoms in 5 yr old testing negative
mommida replied to Mamatomy8's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to assume your son was tested for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders (EGID). The doctor would have to order the testing from the pathologist on the samples from the endoscopy. The number of eosinophils (white blood cells usually reserved for fighting parasites ~ as there is a small spear like part of the cell to attack foreign bodies) My daughter...- 3 replies

You need to add oats to the list.. Oats (unless certified gluten free) -
Keep a food journal. Include your activities to find a possible airborne allergen, like horse back riding. If you are trying a new food, like the soy milk, small amounts~ in pure form~ for 3 days as a challenge. Keep note of your reactions, symptoms, and B.M.s. I don't really have much faith in allergy testing, but it may be something for you to consider...

ARCHIVED muscle pain normal blood test
mommida replied to nonnarae's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are having excessive bruising with no explanation from deficiencies, please go back in for further testing. Or at least further explanation of the values of the test results. As an example (some what bogus because I can't remember the true numbers) vitamin B12- patient result 500- normal range 500 ~ 1500. Celiac savvy doctor gave a vitamin B12...
