  1. I have a good website that shows the link, but I don't have it here (it's at work), so I will look it up tomorrow and post it for you. I went to a rhuematologist who thinks I have fibro, but after reading more about it I'm not convinced, however, there is some evidence that the gluten-free diet helps with some of the symptoms. My boss has fibro so I had...
  2. I enjoy the Food for Life brown rice tortillas that someone mentioned (more like flour), but I have a problem with them getting very chewy immediately. I keep them frozen and just microwave them individually for about 15-20 seconds in a damp paper towel, but before I can put my toppings on and roll them up, they have already hardened and are VERY chewy....
  3. I just bought a Kitchenaid - broke down and got it b/c they were on sale. Can't wait to use it! So you just put yours in a regular loaf pan? I didn't know if that would "scrunch" it up too much - I don't have any fancy french bread pans or anything like that
  4. that's good to hear - they sell that at my local health food store, so I think I'll buy it this weekend and maybe test it out for Thanksgiving, so I can work out any kinks in my gluten-free baking skills before December
  5. I am hosting a wine and cheese tasting for our dinner club next month and want to keep our house gluten free, so I am telling everyone to bring a bottle of wine and a cheese to go with it, and I will provide all the crackers, etc. I have some Glutino crackers that are decent, and really like the Blue Diamond Nut thins, so I plan on having an assortment of...
  6. I love my rice cooker - you can cook whole meals in it (kind of like a crockpot, only quicker!) too - just throw in the rice, liquid, seasonings, veggies, meat, whatever and then hit "cook" and in about 20-30 minutes it's done! Mine came with a "cookbook" that had some suggestions, that's how I figured this out.
  7. I've been gluten-free 6 months now and haven't noticed much of a difference, although like others my villi were completely flat (I had been sick for many years before my 10th dr. discovered celiac!). I did notice today that I haven't had as many bruises on my legs these last few weeks (have always had huge unexplained bruises in the past), and my dizzy spells...
  8. Thanks everyone for all the info! I am in the U.S. My thyroid meds need to be adjusted again, so I am going to talk to my endo about some of these antidepressants. I'm so glad to have found this group
  9. I have hypothryoid (dx 2 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant) and now celiac (dx 6 months ago) - not sure which came first.
  10. Well, I've been gluten-free for 6 months now with no improvement (just had another biopsy and still show flattened villi) and am seriously considering anti-depression medication. Does anyone have any recommendations for meds that are (obviously) gluten-free and will NOT cause sleeplessness or weight gain? I've already gained 13 pounds (NOT needed!) since...
  11. I don't know about 7-11 but I called Quiktrip and their cappuccino drinks are all gluten free (I called 2 separate times b/c you sometimes get different answers)
  12. I have BCBS PPO in GA and when I called they said they would cover the enterolab testing, however, after I got the test and sent in the claim (with the Enterolab codes), they denied it all. I didn't push it b/c I only did the genetic tests (for my daughter - I already had positive biopsy and blood tests on myself). So, even if they tell you it will be...
  13. Sorry, a "charge in" means the company is paying for it (versus coming out of your own pocket) The Smokey Bones I go to is at Perimeter mall (about 20 min. or so from downtown) and is probably the closest (unfortunately there isn't one in downtown Atlanta where you will be). I usually stick with the pork plate, or bbq chicken, but I think most of their...
  14. Just got back from Florida for my sister's wedding and we stayed in Disney 2 nights - I had the best gluten-free meals there that I've had since going gluten-free! We stayed at the Pop Century, and ate dinner, lunch and breakfast once each at the food court and I have to say, I had better (and cheaper - they charge the kids price for gluten-free meals even...
  15. If you are downtown (I work downtown right near where you are staying), Ray's in the City (seafood - on Peachtree ST.) is a good place (prices are about $15 and up per meal), and any of the Buckhead LIfe Group restaurants (www.buckheadrestaurants.com) can accomodate you - they are all good but not for kids, and more for charge-in meals Also another charge...
  16. I just wanted to say Thank You to all of you for your support of everyone. I have only been gluten-free for 5 1/2 months (dx in May), but I am not healing (just had another biopsy/scope and villi are still flat) so I was thinking of just giving up. This is adding so much more stress in my life and I already have thyroid disorder among a few other autoimmuse...
  17. The canned fried onions have wheat in them (says so on the ingr. list). This is my first holiday gluten-free also, so that is the first thing I checked! I was very depressed b/c I saw the Progresso mushroom soup, and like another poster said, it is very high fat (I always used Campbell's low fat version). So, instead of green bean casserole, I am going...
  18. I've been buying on Amazon - Pamela's baking/pacake mix is TONS cheaper, and free shipping (although everything is in bulk) - they also have pastas and gluten-free crackers, etc. just do a search for "gluten free" under both "grocery" and "gourmet food" (they have different options under both sections). Someone on here tipped me off to the Sinnamon popcorn...
  19. Thanks for the idea - I just had a tuna/hummus/corn tortilla sandwhich yesterday, but now I want to try this with the avocado - great idea! By "corn thins" do you mean tortillas, or is there something out there that I don't know about (I'm new to this)?
  20. I've used nonstick pans for both cakes (and muffins and bread) that I've made and so far they've all come out perfect (knock on wood!). I found that The Really Great Food Co. has a wonderful cake mix - I used the chocolate but their other stuff is great too.
  21. Mine is just a stabbing/shooting pain in the left side - when I run however I get cramps all across my middle and have to stop and bend over and wait for them to go away (never had these before going gluten-free - my dr. thinks I'm "carb starved" - how ironic). Anyway, yoiu might want to get tested for crohns - that kind of pain sounds just like what my...
  22. I have Swanson's in my cabinet and called them to make sure they are gluten-free - they confirmed (twice, b/c I didn't really believe the first time) that they ARE gluten-free (they even sent me a list of all their gluten-free foods and of course it was on there).
  23. I just hosted a 2yr old's birthday party and did EVERYTHING gluten-free (just like you, I didn't want to have to worry about cc). I had: gluten-free chocolate cake and cupcakes (I used Really Great Food Co. mix and make my own cream cheese frosting); fruit dip and fruit; pickle wraps (ham and/or turkey lunchmeat, cream cheese, and dill pickles - can do...
  24. Well, today I had strawberries and grapes for breakfast, then half a gluten-free bagel (glutino brand I think - my first taste of a gluten-free bagel and it is acceptable - nothing like a real bagel though!) with cream cheese, smoked salmon, and capers. Lunch was sweet potatoe/carrot/lentil soup and a few gluten-free animal crackers (Envirokidz - yum!)....
  25. I've had menstrual problems all my life and was dx with PCOS about 4 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant. Long story short, I went through 2 rounds of progestin and clomid and finally had a period after 14 months, had my baby, and 2 years later still no period! Just dx with celiac this April, so not sure if going gluten-free will help that or not...
