  1. No steroids for celiac alone. richard
  2. There's no question that a large percentage of people have had very bad experiences. Bring your own food. richard
  3. There is no set period for everybody. It really does vary. Most celiac experts say you should be eating gluten for a minimum of 12 weeks, but even then who knows. I think the amount per day is something like 4 pieces of bread -- a fair amount. There's no fasting period for the blood tests but a short time for the biopsy. richard
  4. I'm just telling you what the top celiac experts in the country say. If you do have positive blood tests, the NIH says a biopsy is not necessary, since you've already been diagnosed with DH. In case you haven't read the actual consensus statement: Open Original Shared Link. Anyway, my dermatologist diagnosed my DH 25 years just by looking at it. He knew...
  5. The flu, influenza, is a respiratory illness and does not involved vomiting and diarrhea.. You have a fever (sometimes very high), aches and pains all over, and congestion and difficulty breathing. The flu usually knocks people out of work or school for at least a week. If you have the "real" flu, there's really nothing you can do except rest, drink fluids...
  6. Not a criticism, but why did you put him back on gluten? richard
  7. If you definitely have DH then you definitely have or will have celiac. Even the National Institutes of Health agrees with this. In fact, they say that if you have DH, you don't need any more tests for celiac, you just need to go gluten-free. There's an NIH consensus statement about this. But you need to keep taking the dapsone for several months to keep...
  8. There's an area on the BK web site that lists ingredients for everything. Pickles are generally gluten-free. richard
  9. I'f bet the coffee wasn't a problem, but CC certainly could be. They have to use a well-cleaned surface and clean utensils. If the diner has a slower time and it's convenient, go then. They're less likely to make mistakes. Lastly, you probably should consider not eating out for a while. Let yourself heal and get more used to the diet. Eating out is always...
  10. Horseradish used to be on the questionable list because of distilled vinegar. We know better now. I don't know of a horseradish that has gluten, but Gold's and Kraft are definitely gluten-free. Or get horseradish root and grate it yourself. richard
  11. M&Ms are gluten-free. There was a mistake in the list that they obviously haven't corrected yet. M&Ms are definitely gluten-free. richard
  12. "I can eat a McDonald's bun but not a fresh made bagel or pizza." Then you've got something else going on other than gluten. All three of the above are heavy in gluten. richard
  13. You can't "kill" gluten, but unless you swim right into the protein in the pool and then swallow it, I just can't imagine how this can be a problem. Even if you did swallow it, it would be so diluted as to be nothing. This is too paranoid. richard
  14. Sorry connole, but with something like celiac, if you or your child is getting ill, the FIRST thing you should do is stop eating at places like McD. They are the most likely to have CC. richard
  15. Definitely talk to the dietary folks ahead of time -- BUT, have a stock of your own food and have your husband bring food. Some hospitals do great but many are clueless. For my first "gluten-free" meal I got chicken smothered in a thick mystery sauce on top of noodles and Boston cream pie. I was sick as a dog and new at it and still knew that wasn't gluten...
  16. I'm pretty certain all Trail's End products are gluten-free, but microwave popcorn is virtually without exception gluten-free. richard
  17. Try them in the microwave. It's great. richard
  18. gluten-free. Ingredient Questions For ingredient inquiries, please contact our Consumer Relations team toll-free at 1-888-645-3453. richard
  19. The years I've been gluten-free I've heard very, very few complaints about Utz. It's the preferred chip for many with celiac. However, you take a chance of CC any time you eat a processed product. richard
  20. Stress can aggravate any physical problems. Once you're gluten-free and healed (that is if you have celiac), stress by itself wouldn't cause real symptoms, although it might still make you sick in other ways. richard
  21. "If the sodium is coming from a flavouring compound, then there is a chance that it could contain gluten." I don't understand. Seems to me the flavoring would then be the source of the gluten, not the sodium. Do you have a real-life example? richard
  22. Paper towels are fine. So is toilet paper, newspapers, writing paper, etc. richard
  23. No matter what their reply was (and it doesn't ound like they were jerking you around) there's no need to ever be concerned about the source of sodium. It will NOT contain gluten. richard
  24. I don't know how you're traveling, but if you're driving you should be fine. If not, a little tougher, but you can still take a small cooler. I always take stuff with me. Chicken salad, tuna salad, Tyson precooked chicken legs, nuts, sliced fruit and vegetables, deli meat, hard-boiled eggs, and cheese are just a few off the top of my head. richard
  25. Experts recommend that all first-degree relatives be tested, not only the siblings but also parents. richard
