Grocery Store
Grocery shopping has historically taken me, a sufferer from self-diagnosed ADD/ADHD an excruciatingly long time. However, then I became gluten-free and wouldn't you know....it takes even longer. I used to just walk aimlessly picking whatever was on sale, looked interesting, or I had always loved. Meandering each aisle, list in hand which I was completely ignoring. I'd end up at the check out bewildered by either the cost, amount in my cart or both. Well yes, I still ignore my list, I stiYum Yums For Tonight
So I believe I have just about mastered not having to cook a gluten free meal and then a regular meal separately. We cook separate pastas for me and Scott because, well, he eats like a horse and gluten free food costs approx $2.50 more per bag of pasta than his 89 cent boxes of stop and shop brand pasta. Speaking of our budget....we are watching HGTV house hunters international and these people have a 1.5million dollar budget for their vacation home in St. John...ahhh the good life. So a story I forgot to tell you all yesterday... I woke up at about 5:30 in the morning sick as a dog and made the mistake of rubbing my eyes. Well, I managed to get a piece of (what I discovered later to be) fuzz stuck in there and although I have been educated (my profession) on how to properly wash out an eye I feel that repetitive blinking, rubbing, and whining will do the trick. My boyfriend rolls over, is a little taken aback, and then says why don't you just wash it out. Of course thiFirst Day Of Blogging
So I've never been good at diaries, journals, blogs, etc. I'm going to do my best here to keep you posted on the daily FML moments of my life. If anyone actually reads this bad boy please do post a reply or let me know it's not out lost in cyber space somewhere. I'm getting ready for school and today I have a cold and a stomache ache again. Not a gluten one but a normal stomach ache from my medicine not working. Waiting for it to subside made me too late to have a workout at the gym. SoOn January 9Th, 2010...
...two things occurred. One was that I went to a concert and was away from home from noon until 0030 -or, as some people prefer to call it, midnight thirty. It was a Winter Jam, the second concert of the tour. Artists like Newsong, Newsboys, and Third Day (which in my opinion was the best of all), along with many others, were playing from 6 o'clock until past 10:20, when our group decided to skip the rush and leave early. The other things was ...while I was on my way to be picked up to gBaby Brother
We expected a baby to arrive around New Year's. With eight girls already far outnumbering the two boys in the family (not including parents), we were thinking it was going to be a baby girl. Exactly a week ago, my little brother popped out. The delivery was quick and easy, which Mom (and everyone else) was very thankful for ...but the little boy, who is now in possession of several nicknames, such as 'Bongo' and 'Pooky', had to be transferred to another hospital because he was having a great deFrom Mom 1- Can It Be Gluten Intolerance?
Hello everyone, I'm a new member searching for answers, information. I have been sick for 2 1/2 yrs, since my c-section with the fallowing symptoms: loose stools, weight loss, chronic fatigue, longer menstrual cycle, etc... I've done many procedures such as Endoscopy, CAT SCAN, Colonoscopy etc... All results and celiac blood work/biopsy was negative. My first G.I. suggested to fallow a dairy free diet and thought I could have IBS. I recently went for a second opinion but nothing was found anCross Contamination Is It Really That Easy?
Last night I made some gluten free noodles (which I didn't care for, tasted very weird) and I put gluten free alfredo sauce on it. I made my stuff in there own pots but I was also cooking spagetti for my kids at the same time with their sauce cooking as well...their sauce popped some and got on the stove but I couldn't tell if it did get into my food so I went ahead and ate mine.......Not even 5 minutes after eating mine I had the worst stomach pain and had to rush off to the bathroom....my stomA Day In My Life
Well, it is Monday so another week of the same old, same old is beginning. Harumph!Gluten-Free Frustration!
I know I have been following this diet for 2 years now, but it still seems like it hasn't been any easier to follow. I still have the temptations, cravings and I feel like there is nothing for me to eat. My doctor has told me to stay away from greens and the gluten because not only do I have celiac disease, but I now have IBS. They go great together! (sarcasm) Some days I feel like there is nothing for me to eat. I am the only one in my family that has to follow this diet and they never quite uNew Years
Ok we have decided to stay home for New Years which I am glad about. Christmas Eve turned out to be horrible! I know its mostly me and my emotions but I felt that no one but my mom and hubby cared at all. They all just snacked and said how yummy it all was and there I sat, my first xmas, watching them all enjoy themselves. I did bring my own piece of chicken and cornbread and vegi but I wasnt prepaired for the insensitivity I recieved. Everytime I was asked about celiac disease and I starte12 Year Old Son With Celiac
My 12 year old son was diagnosed with Celiac three months ago. He went to Children's Hospital for the bloodwork, biopsy, and nutritionist. He is very lucky. He doesn't suffer from stomach pain or anything that causes him any discomfort. Although, it is possible that he just doesn't know what it is like to feel healthy. We don't know yet. His biggest symptom is that he is not growing or getting the proper nutrition from his food. Three months ago, he was 53 pounds. now he is almost 10 pounYIKES A New Year Already!
Wow, I cannot believe that it is time to move onto 2010. Where the heck did 2009 go? What a year. I personally am glad to see it go and good riddance to it. It was a year of 3 brain surgeries for me and a celiac diagnosis for my husband. Honestly, I think I won out in the deal. The holidays have been hard in that it is difficult to replace all the g-full food. And let's be honest, my husband did not try too hard. He has fallen off the proverbial wagon big time. But with the new year coSurvey: What's Impacted Celiac Disease the Most in the Last 10 Years? (Part 1)
It has been a busy decade for celiac disease. I even think non-celiacs would agree we heard more about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet in the last 10 years than ever before! Including me. We had it in our family for 40 years before I had any idea this disease even existed – with my daughter Emma’s diagnosis in 2000. With the end of the decade now just days away, I got to wondering what were some of the more significant moments that had an impact on celGluten Is Everywhere!
I just wanted to send this statement out there to everyone and anyone interested... I hope it's helpful! I hesitated about posting on this site for over a year now, what with Doctors posting here, and other "professional" people on the site. I'm not any doctor, or professional anything... I'm a person with Celiac disease though, and I'm slowly becoming a professional at that! I guess I never posted before because I didn't think anyone would believe me as what I have to say goes against what thMerry Christmas!

Hello everybody! Christmas is almost here! YAY!!! Merry Christmas and also have a Happy New Year!Holiday Blues
My husband and I went shopping yesterday to get a few thing for an early Christmas dinner with my kids as they will be with their Dad on Christmas Day. I really started feeling down as we were picking out the normal foods that they usually eat and I can not now. I felt myself getting angry and then sad as we picked up the pumpkin pie knowing I could not have any. I then said to my hubby that I wonder what dessert I can have? Oh I know, Ice Cream with a topping, hahahahaha, found the vanillaNodula On Lung
Well I just got a phone call from my dr.'s office on my chest CT and it came back with a nodula on the lower part of my lung. I will go for another test to see if I have Valley Fever or have ever had it because this nodula could be from that so I am not concerned as I have heard alot of people get scars on their lungs from it. I didnt get to see my dr. yesterday as scheduled, he was sick. So I will see him in January due to the holidays I have to wait. Kinda a bummer because I still am notStill Sick, Search For Other Intolerance
While it is a fact that gluten intolerance never comes alone, most people will be intolerant to other food as well, it is also helpfull to check other factors such as your environment. For example, my son is intolerant to fungus on spoiled fruits, so commercial fruit juices (which always include rotten fruits) will make him react. Some other people, it will be plastics ! "Vitamin D, as an immune modulator, is known to regulate immune response and maybe implicated in disease pathogenesis or susceptibility of celiac disease. Components of the immune system, such as B-lymphocytes, T-lymphocytes, and dendritic cells, are influenced by the regulatory effects of Vitamin D ... Increasing evidence also suggests that Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk and worsens the outcome of extraskeletal diseases such as cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease ... Previous studies have shown that vitamin D levels in the celiac disease group are negatively correlated with symptom severity, which means the lower the vitamin D levels, the more severe the symptoms of celiac disease patients. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with reduced expression of the Vitamin D receptor and epithelial barrier proteins E-cadherin and claudin-2.
