Disney Thinks Bullying A Gluten Free Child Is Funny

 This is shameful! It sends a clear message that is okay to bully those with food allergies or sensitivities. We have enough problems with bullies, we don't need Disney to teach children to make fun of others!

Wow, not funny at all. Where's all the PCness when it comes to Celiac/food allergies?

And don't get me wrong, the young man playing the Celiac is adorable but why does he have to be dressed like that? So he looks "sensitive"? Jeesh, it's not like you can tell by looking at us :-/

Disney has really had their head up their arse this month. They've already had two really bad PR explosions just this month. They still have plenty of time for more after.

I tried to sign but the petition was closed.

Bullying is bullying, regardless of the form.

The petition was probably closed because last evening the issue was resolved. Disney pulled the show and apologized. Probably sooner rather than later due to the other two huge issues they already had this month that were very publicized. I'm pretty jaded at this point with large corporation policies and attitudes but my opinion is that it all happened quite quickly so that they would avoid it becoming an issue as big at the last two. They can hardly afford more bad press at this point.

I'm glad you shared this, I too tried to sign. My son is just getting used to how to handle questions at school from his classmates about why he can't have certain foods or why he cant join in and enjoy these awesome cupcakes they brought in. He has been taking all of this very well but he is just a little self conscience, he watches this show at his fathers my guess is he hasn't seen these two, glad they pulled the shows he doesn't need any negativity about this he is still getting comfortable. On the other hand I took him and his brother to the premiere of Iron Man, and when Jarvous (think that's his name) reminded Stark that he'd had gluten-free waffles fuor breakfast Elijah (my son) lit up like a light bulb!! Just that one comment, just knowing that Iron Man one if his favo Marvels eats gluten-free gives him a little security. These shows do matter!

It would be better if they aired an episode where other kids stood up to the bully and they explained food allergies & Celiac at a simple kid friendly level.

Agreed, we need to be teaching our children how to be considerate of others no matter the differences in diet, color, size, personality, ect

i heard that disney owns iron man, so i checked.  indeed, they do.  :(  it's still nice that it made your kid feel cool.  heck, i feel pretty cool hearing that and i didn't even see the movie!  lolz

i'm glad they took that crappy show down!  the relentless garbage disney churns out geared for 'tweens' is ridiculous.  too bad, though, i heard they do a good job with feeding people gluten free at their resorts/cruises...

My daughter doesn't watch much TV, so I hadn't heard about this.  How awful!  I do have to say though, that Walt Disney World is absolutely fantastic with special diets.  They treated my daughter like royalty at every meal.  So, it isn't company-wide.  Someone obviously made a stupid decision not only to create the episode, but to air it as well.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
