Hi again,

Thanks so much for the info and replies to my last post regarding the yeast infections. I did go to that appointment with my doc, and he feels that the intestinal yeast is a problem, but not the vaginal. If you remember, I don't have any symptoms of the vaginal infection, but my chiropractor told me I did. My doc said that if you're not symptomatic, you don't have it. DUH! :) Anyway, he gave me diflucan (sp?), and I'm wondering if you can tell me your experience with this drug. I'm scared to death to take it. I hear you can get pretty sick on it -- just because it's getting all those bugs destroyed. I homeschool three kids, so if I'm down too long, I feel like my life will go spinning out of control. :( Ok, maybe not that bad.....but I really do need to be up and functional. Anyway, can anyone tell me their experiences?

I've taken it several times for yeast infections that were induced by having to take antibiotics, and I've never had a single side effect other than slight sleepiness. And everything on the planet makes me qeausy. I've never heard horror stories from friends either, or had warnings from my doctor on side effects.

I had a horrible bout of yeast infections and took diflucan a bunch of times, often back to back. I've never had a single side effect (and it did get rid of the yeast). I have a number of friends that have taken it as well and no problems for them either (just like you I asked them prior to taking it).

My dr. warned me that if I did have a lot of yeast in my GI tract that taking the Diflucan will make this worse in the beginning - but that means it's working. He also told me to take it every other day, unless things got bad then I should skip a day or two until I felt I was ready. Basically it gave me horrible D, pretty urgent, a lot at at time and (sorry here) it was very "foamy". BUT - it was just for the first couple days, by the end of my 20 day (10 pills) treatment, I hardly noticed I was taking it. But it didn't make me sick otherwise, I certainly could function - just kept close to the bathroom!

Did he recommend following it up with other products? I take an acidiopholus (sp) and I was using Candida Cleanse too.

I never noticed any issues with Diflucan when I took it in the past.

I've not had a problem with diflucan, though I haven't had to take it for weeks at a time. (I think four is the most I've done, over two weeks.) Do make sure not to drink any alcohol while taking diflucan, however, as that combination can make you very sick.

Wow. That is cool that everyone has had good experiences. That certainly does ease my anxiety. I'm nearly positive I have an infection....so I am prepared for things to get worse. I just don't know HOW worse they'll get. :-)

Yes, he did recommend the follow up treatments. Acidophilus, along with some natural remedies to keep the yeast away. And he talked about doing the nystatin in between the two doses of diflucan. Basically, I'll be taking a week's worth of diflucan, then maybe nystatin, then one more week of the diflucan. Anyway, I hope it goes good. I'll be starting it within the next few days (I had to schedule in being sick - lol).

I had come to the conclusion that I had intestinal yeast and asked my doctor for both nystatin and diflucin. I had no side effects from either drug but no improvement either. I had no visible "sign" of yeast...no v. yeast infection or thrush but just figured it may be the cause for my "mysterious" ongoing problems. I had 2 weird spots on my chest for about a year....I never knew what they were but didnt really care either. After one day of Diflucin the spots disappeared....never to be seen again.

Apparantly they were yeast or some type of fungus...anyway that was pretty much the only improvement I noticed from taking it.

You don't want to take it excessively because it can be hard on the liver. My doctor tested my liver prior to use and then again shortly after. I had no problems.

I've never had a problem with Diflucan, but I heard from my doctor that he won't prescribe it that much because taking it a lot is hard on the liver and the yeast become immune to it.

But, my doctor also doesn't believe in intestinal yeast overgrowth. He gave it to me for a vaginal yeast infection.

      Try adding some Thiamine Hydrochloride (thiamine HCl) and see if there's any difference.  Thiamine HCl uses special thiamine transporters to get inside cells.  I take it myself.   Tryptophan will help heal the intestines.  Tryptophan is that amino acid in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner.  I take mine with magnesium before bedtime.

      I live in the upper mid-west and was just diagnosed with marsh 3c celiac less than a month ago.  As a 51 year old male, I now take a couple of different gluten free vitamins.  I have not noticed any reaction to either of these items.  Both were purchased from Amazon. 1.  Nature Made Multivitamin For Him with No Iron 2.  Gade Nutrition Organic Quercetin with Bromelain Vitamin C and Zinc Between those two, I am ingesting 2000 IU of vitamin D per day.       I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

      Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

      @catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.
