How do you recover from mysterious gluten contamination? My guts won't wake up despite hot liquids, stewed vegetables, broth & yogurt (goat)....many days later. Doesn't drive you crazy when you cannot sleuth out how you were glutened? I'm 56, teach high school and been gluten-free for 3 years. Thank you!

>.< I use hot magnesium citrate to flush it down then stay on a bone broth, eggs, and some soft cooked meats for awhile and drink 16oz of warm water every 1-2hours most of the day. But my gut still randomly decided to hold onto food til I vomit it hours later....so far as long as I stay away from emulsifiers (guar gum, xantham gum, starches, agar. etc.) and spices stuff keeps flushing down the stomach. I have been dealing with random Gastroperesis like issues for years...I have honestly given in to comparing my stomach to a toilet and force flushing it via plenty of warm liquids hours later after giving it time to digest. I also take extra digestive enzymes to help break stuff down.
THIS IS IN NO WAY medical advice, just what I am doing as a stopgap measure til my GI doctor figures this out.

OMG I feel like less of a freak - thank you! Hot mag drink sounds really smart and I will try it tonight. Eggs are easy to eat (eve buy them from farmer who does not feed grain) and would help with energy. I've had 8 gut surgeries before figiei.g out that gluten was poisoning me....

Hi Laura,

Milk of Magnesia can help get things moving sometimes.   CVS also sell liquid magnesium drinks in small bottles.  Those are probably the nuclear option though.

Is it Gastroparesis or constipation?  If it is the stomach not emptying (vomiting often resolves it), I am not sure taking a laxative is going to help.

in any case, healing from celiac disease should help.  You have to avoid gluten at all costs.  Deviations from the diet can set you back (as you have discovered).

Recovery for me is weeks or months.  Why?  Because gluten triggers an autoimmune reaction like RA or lupus.  The body will stop producing antibodies when it decides and not just when you eliminate gluten from the body.

Be patient.  ?

Gastroparesis may be caused by thiamine deficiency.

Hope this helps.

LauraP63,

To add to what Knitty Kitty said here are some links that might help you.

https://annals.org/aim/article-abstract/718014/gastrointestinal-beriberi-previously-unrecognized-syndrome

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29982183

This happens often because Beri Beri is great imitator of other diseases.

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advise.

Posterboy,

@Scott Adams thank you again!  You definitely 100% get it!!  It's so helpful to know that what I'm going through is normal and part of the process. My endoscopy just got scheduled for June 10 (I'm going to be traveling or else they could have gotten me in earlier) so I have 2 more weeks of eating gluten.  I'm assuming I should just go to the endoscopy and start going gluten free as soon as it's done?  Or should I wait for the biopsy to come back just in case they have to repeat something?

Welcome to the forum, @NightRaven92! The symptoms you describe definitely align with celiac disease or at least NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). That, and the family history of celiac disease, certainly warrant being tested for it. The first stage of diagnosis involves blood tests looking for antibodies that are more or less specific to celiac disease. If the blood antibody testing is positive, there is usually a second level diagnostic procedure for confirmation involving an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining, looking for the damage caused by celiac disease. So, when you go to your appointment, I would suggest approaching your doctor this way to simplify the experience: 1. For six...

Hey so on June 18th next month,I made an appointment next month with my doctor, because I think what could be causing my symptoms,is related to Celiac Disease. Here is my symptoms & stuff..so anyway autoimmune disease runs on my mom's side of the family. My grandma has an autoimmune disease related to her thyroid,& my aunt has Celiac Disease. I have been having my symptoms for almost 6 weeks now, from what I have noticed anyway. My symptoms are:Stomach pain/cramping,chronic diarrhea,I will feel feverish out of nowhere,I get alot of headaches & pain in my joints,& I noticed that literally after I consume anything with gluten in it,I will get nausea, sick to my stomach, pain in...

Welcome to the forum, @Marky0320! Simple nausea and emesis is common with celiac disease when gluten is ingested but I have not heard of a connection between CVS and celiac disease per se. Are you asking this question as one who has already been officially diagnosed with celiac disease or as someone who is investigating the possibility of having celiac disease?
