So, what is the plan now? Complain and hear what they say?

Start a firestorm of complaints and spread the word that the fires are NOT safe and contain wheat. Get the word out that McDondals lied about ti all these years, and lets see how long they say in the #1 fast food chain spot.

Kinda funny, I've been on hold for 20 minutes now. I've NEVER been on hold when calling a nutrition line/company before.

Oakbrook corporate just called me back and said that the ff receipe has not changed, but they now list it to comply with the 2006 law. That they still consider them gluten free because one of their suppliers says the gluten gets par fried out. Someone several threads back posted this same information. Will if I can par fry the gluten out - what temp. is that - and how soon can I make REAL onion rings :blink:

We know that you cant fry out gluten, hence all the problems with CC in fired foods while we are out. Thats called "OH CRAP WE GOT CAUGHT IN A LIE, NEED LIE MORE TO GET OUT OF IT".

At least thats my take on it.

I e-mailed them a little while ago. Among other things, I told them you can't kill gluten with high temps. like you would bacteria. Maybe some uninformed person (read:dim bulb) thought it would cook out and they've been going with that ever since.

Oh, hah, I forgot that it was in the oil. I asked why do you use oil with gluten in it. She said some pat answer about the seasonings. She found me frustrating. I said it is not possible to fry gluten out and she then mentioned - again - supplier said, nutritionist said and lawyers said. You noticed the lawyers! I then said that their research and development dept. should do their homework.

If it does turn out they have been glutening everyone, there isn't a shell in the world big enough to hide in!!!

Well the conspiracy theorists will have a ball with this one.

Here is what I got when I tried to email McDonalds:

403 Forbidden

You do not have access to this script.

Worked fine last night. Even tried a differenct email account to see if they blocked my message since I had sent one already. Didn't work either.

I can just picture the atmosphere right now at McDonald's Corporate Head Office. Everyone running around, scurrying like cockroaches, trying to do a major cover up. Emergency Meeting: "DON'T SAY ANYTHING, DON'T ADMIT ANYTHING!!" "CALL THE LAWYERS!!!!"

I have now been on hold for AN HOUR. I don't think they're picking up. My neck is starting to hurt ( my speaker phone is broken).

I may give up in minute here and call again tommorrow.

I am at work after all :P

Here's what happened when McD's was sued for failing to disclose that their fries contained beef:

"McDonald's Corp. has agreed to donate $10 million to Hindu and other groups to settle lawsuits filed against the chain for mislabeling french fries and hash browns as vegetarian."

"McDonald's says it has created a Dietary Practice/Vegetarian Advisory Panel consisting of experts in consumer dietary practices that will advise McDonald's on relevant dietary restrictions and guidelines."

"The Oak Brook, Illinois-based fast-food giant responded to the lawsuits by saying it never claimed the fries it sells in the United States are vegetarian. But the company apologized for any confusion surrounding the use of beef flavoring in the production of fries."

Open Original Shared Link

This is even worse, as they DID claim their fries were gluten-free, by placing them on the gluten-free menu. I'm interested to see what will come of all this.

Canadian Karen Community Regular

I hope a lot of people have that "glutenfree list" of McDonalds that shows the fries on it printed out. I wouldn't put it past them to change the website and then claim it was never on there......

I spoke with Micheal at McDonalds after being on hold for over 30 minutes, yes the gluten has always been there, idiots believe it's processed out in the cooking process... I informed him it only takes a molecule of gluten to cause damage, do they test for the presence of gluten? He said "of course they do, why else would they put it on the gluten free list"

I'm so pissed off right now. We have been betrayed people. Now I know where all of our mysterious glutenenings have been coming from. No wonder I'm still not completely well.

Thank you for the sweet offers of shipping me safe Corn Nuggets, but that's really not neccessary, I will find something else for her that she can have. LOL about shipping me fries from Canada! I'm not trusting this company ANY MORE. They lie. Now they are being caught in a lie and the ramifications of this are going to be serious.

Lets also contact Good Morning America since they recently did a story about Celiac... highlight the difficulties we face in dealing with major corporations. Also, thank you whoever e-mailed our friend at the Wall Street Journal.

I will not take this one lying down, I am angry and am ready to take action.

I just got off the phone with them. I was on hold for 10 minutes. I spoke to "Herman."

He said it is their beef bouillon that contains the gluten. But, the word from their supplier is that it is par-fried out so it is still considered gluten free.

I expressed my disbelief at that, saying that gluten cannot be killed at high temperatures. He said he could only provide me with the information he was given.

Like others, I was told that the ingredients have not changed.

I asked if McDonald's was issuing a statement, and he said he did not know.

I specifically asked why they were listing it as gluten free if it contained gluten. He said since it is "par fried" out, that it is no longer considered an allergen and is safe. I told him I disagreed and this adds to many Celiacs' belief that they contained gluten, as many people have reactions to them.

Sigh. This is SHAMEFUL.

Canadian Karen Community Regular

Has there been any official word from any American Celiac Associations? Do they even know about this?

Hey Herman! What the hell is par-fried?

Thanks to all who've been calling...

I think, after reading this, that you areso traumatized by not being able yo understand what your medical advisors have been  what medical conditions are that you would like to find a group of people who also feel traumatized who would agree with you and also support you. You are on a crusade much as the way the US Cabinet  official, the Health Director of our nation is in trying to change what he considers outdated and incorrect health advisories. He does not have the education, background or experience to be in the position he occupies and is not making beneficial decisions. That man suffered a terrible trauma early in his life when his father was assonated. We see now how he developed and worked himself into a powerful position.  Unless you are willing to take some advice or  are willing to use a few of the known methods of starting on a path to better health then not many of us on this Celiac Forum will be able to join you in a continuing series of complaints about medical advisors.    I am almost 90 years old. I am strictly gluten free. I use 2 herbs to help me stay as clear minded as possible. You are not wrong in complaining about medical practitioners. You might be more effective with a clearer mind, less anger and a more comfortable life if you would just try some of the suggestions offered by our fellow celiac volunteers.

Thus has got to STOP , medical bit believing us! I literally went through 31 years thinking it was just a food allergy as its downplayed by medical if THEY weren't the ones who diagnosed us! Im positive for HLA-DQ2 which is first celiac patient per Iran and Turkey. Here in the States especially in Cali its why do you feel that way? Why do you think your celiac? Your not eating gluten so its something else.Medical caused me depression. I thought I was safe with my former pcp for 25 years considering i thought everything I went through and going through will be available when I get fired again for health. Health not write-ups my health always come back when you're better.Im not and being tossed away at no fault to my own other than shitty genes.I was denied disability because person said he didn't know how to classify me! I said Im celiac, i have ibs, hernia, sciatica, high blood pressure, in constant pain have skin and eye issues and menopause intensified everything. With that my celiac nightmare began to reprove my disregarded disease to a bunch of clowns who think they are my careteam when they said I didn't have...I feel Im still breathing so I can fight this so no body else has to deal with this nightmare. Starting over with " new care team" and waisting more time on why I think I am when diagnosed in 1994 before food eliminated from my diet. P.s everything i went through I did write to medical board, so pretty sure I will continue to have a hard time.

@Scatterbrain, Thiamine Vitamin B1 and amino acid Taurine work together.  Our bodies can make Taurine from meats consumed.  Our bodies cannot make Thiamine and must consume thiamine from food.  Meat is the best source of B vitamins like Thiamine.   Vegetarians may not make sufficient taurine since they don't eat meat sources of taurine.  Seaweed is the best vegetarian source of taurine. Vegetarians may not consume sufficient Thiamine since few veggies are good sources.  Whole grains, legumes, and nuts and seeds contain thiamine.  Many of these sources can be hard to digest and absorb for people with Celiac disease.   You may find taking the forms of thiamine called Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and a B Complex will give the benefits you're looking for better than taurine alone.

@Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.
