Almost Ice Cream

I just found this wonderful product. It is called a sorbet but it is unlike any sorbet I have encountered. Rather than being icy it is smooth and creamy - as good as ice cream. Product name is Sharon's Sorbet.

It is not labeled gluten free but here are the ingredients:

Water, coconut milk, coconut cream, cane sugar, corn syrup, coconut shreds, natural stabilizers (locust bean, guar gum, lecithin carrageenan - natural flavors.

The natural flavors could be an issue but it has not bothered me. I have an info request out.

I purchased this at Whole Foods. Claire

I second the motion! It's GREAT! I've never had a problem with it. For a really yummy treat mix in some crushed Kinnickinnick K-toos. Closest thing I've had to a "Blizzard" for 10 years. Our Trader Joe's stopped carrying it, so I might have to drive the hour to Whole Foods here.

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll be at Whole Foods next week - I'll pick up some. I'm always looking for ice cream for my daughter that's gluten/dairy/soy free. Is there just one flavor? Thanks!

Sharon's coconut sorbet is amazing. Whole Foods also sells young coconuts. Those are even better than the sorbet (and no gluten risk - just eat the fleshy coconut stuff and the water right out of the cocont shell - yum!)

Sharon's sorbet is listed on the trader Joes gluten-free list here in Media PA

I'm dying to try it. Going to get some tomorrow if you guys let me know about the sweetnest.

I did try some other sorbet and found it SOOOOO SWEET that i didn't like it.

Is this really sweet?

I like the idea it's more 'creamy' like ice cream. I really miss my ice cream do to cutting out dairy.

The coconut sorbet is sweet, but isn't too sweet. It's not overpowering like some of the fruit sorbets are. It's very rich though. You will be satisfied with a modest sized serving. It's very good with chocolate syrup or fruit syrup. I can't figure out why our Trader Joe's stopped carrying it - it always seemed to sell well. My son and I haven't had any decent ice cream substitute for a long time.

Also - it does come in a few other flavors. Raspberry, lemon, passion fruit and one other, I think.

I love their lemon sorbet. It's on the gluten free list at Trader Joes (northeast).

I was very excited when I read this thread, as someone who is gluten-free, soy free, and dairy limited. I emailed the company about it being gluten-free, and below is their (brief) response:

All natural gluten free--no artifical ingredients

Yea for us! Just thought I'd share the info!

I am so excited to read this thread too!!

I've got it on my list for the co-op next time I go. I think I've looked at all the "ice creams" but will look again and maybe ask them to special order it for me, if it's that good.

I went by Whole Foods this morning but they don't carry it. I put in a request, though, so we'll see if they can order some. I'll have to try Trader Joes next week.

I just went to TJ's today and the cocconut sorbet has SOY LISTED IN THE ALLERGIN ALERT AT THE END OF THE INGRED. i ASKED THE 'HELPER' AND HE SAID IT WAS IN ONE OF THE INGRED. i'LL TRY TO FIND THE WEB SITE AGAIN TOMORROW AND POST WHAT IT'S HIDDEN IN. IT DIDN'T SAY SOY BUT HE SAID IT IT'S LABELED AS A SOY ALLERGEN THEN IT'S IN THERE.

I don't know where you are but Whole Foods in the Washington, DC area, Maryland and PA all carry it. MacCaffety's markets in PA also.

IT WAS ONLY ON THE COCONUT ONE. THE OTHERS WERE OK.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT.

REMEMBER IT'S THE TRADER JOES WHERE I GOT IT.

I WONDER IF THE SHARON'S SORBET PUTS THE LISTINGS ON IT OR THE INDIV STORES THAT SELL IT. I BET IT COMES FROM SHARONS.

I'm holding a carton right now and there is no mention of soy anywhere on it. I'm on the West coast. I've been eating this for a couple of years and NEVER had a problem and I avoid soy. I looked on Sharon's website and couldn't find any information and also looked on another website that listed all the ingredients and soy isn't listed anywhere.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU LIZ--IF I HADN'T STOOD IN THE DANG STORE LOOKING AT THE BLASTED CARTON I'D THINK I WAS FRIGGN' GOING NUTS.

AS I SAID EARLIER TODAY----I COULDN'T SEE ON THE INGRED PANEL WHERE IT WAS LISTED BUT IN BOLD RED LETTERS UNDER THE INGRED AND ON THE ALLERGINS WARNING.....SOY WAS LISTED SO...GOING TO CALL THE COMPANY SOME TIME.

Hi Judy,

Don't worry about the big type. Hope you can read mine. I have the coconut sorbet. I got mine at Trader Joe's too, but it was in January or early February, since they haven't been selling it here since then. No red type on mine. This is so weird. I wonder if it's a cross-contamination problem? I don't think it could be too much soy - probably just a warning for people who might have an anaphylactic reaction to soy or something. I've never had a problem with it.

I wish I could find this in some of the other flavors--coconut dosn't like me. My Whole Foods only has the coconut. I eat the Whole Fruit sorbet that I get at the reg. grocery store. The ingredients look ok, but I have an email out to them to make sure.

Thanks so much Liz. This is really weird..I've been in the guest room cleaning and filing all day and don't feel like calling today. I bet your right, there just might be a cc thing or 'cover your a--' but don't know know why the other flavors wouldn't have it.

I think the main question i'll ask is , to the stores that sell it have the option to change the labeling the product sends out....??? Wouldn't think so due to quality control but .....heck, I'm so new to this...

appreciate your reply. did you say your on the West Coast..I'm on the East and know that the lists were so different as were the products...the balsamic vinagergrette there didn't have soy and same bottle here did NOW...AND I'D USED IT SINCE JUNE...

I love sorbet! It is my dairy free "icecream" :) I haven't seen Sharon's but will keep an eye out. My favorite--I love--is Cioa Bella sorbets-soo good! Coconut also and a ton of other flavors. Last time I went to the store that carries them (on other side of town) I stocked up on $30 worth!!! Don't worry--it will last me for a while :)

I started this topic on Sharon's Sorbet. I have recontacted the company and have been assured that only the Coconut has some soy. All other flavors are gluten free, dairy free, soy free. What more can you ask!

I am trying to get it into our new Marketplace- a great new local store with all kinds of gluten-free foods. Claire

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye.
