Congratulations, Picard!!!! You can never have too many women in the family :)

Not that I'm biased...

I just "took" some phenergan, so I'll be passing out and become incoherent pretty soon. Doesn't take that long to get from the butt to the head

Yeah, still don't know what it is, my mom is both worried and at a loss. This has been going on a long time and robs me of at least a day's worth of spoons. :(

OK, I'm done whining

Well, I was just being a little funny. I too many sisters (I am the lone male), nine nieces and only two nephews.

And one crazy little 2 year old boy!!!!!!! So, I am happy I have a son. Just not looking forward to a teenage daughter. I know what my sisters did to my poor dad!

My wife is very happy, she was hoping for a girl. I to be honest was just hoping for one!

Well we will have a new arrival in December to Rachelville. An ultrasound was done today, so ....

A bouncing baby girl! Am I in trouble!:P:D

Congratulations Picard!! :D

How many girls are you surrounded by now?

dlp252 Apprentice

Picard - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! How exciting!

Susan - yes it was the Vater of something or other thing that was benign.

Penguin - so sorry you are feeling so badly! Hopefully by now you are sound asleep and when you wake up you'll feel much better.

Thanks to everyone here for sharing in my good news!!!

:lol::lol:

Susan...I just saw what you wrote underneath your girls! Do your Dingoes love chasing squirrels or something? Here in R-Ville they need to be focusing on geese...not squirrels.:lol:

OK...ok...we will have squirrels for the girls. :D

Picard, What wonderful news--congratulations! :)

Celia, my amazing twin, how do you ever manage to keep us and our stories all straight? You will make a great newscaster  You are already a great friend ;)

Cissie--The Poland Spring is flat--just plain water (I don't like the fizzy stuff, either) :)

Chelsea--This whole ordeal has been so hard on you--get some sleep and I hope by the time you read this, you're feeling better. Only a month to go :)

Nope, not the makeup, I've been using it a while. Besides, I'm always flushed

I just don't know anymore. Isn't there somewhere I can just, I don't know, turn my body in for a trade?

aww I am so sorry... did you get a sed rate test done?

What's that?

do they like squirrels.....OMG - - a constant passion and torture, as they never get them.....makes them tired so I love it and encourage it....but wait - are the dingos guarding the geese while the geese guard the cows? they don't really know their full job description yet adn were wondering.....

Hey, where is our Queen today? Julie - what'r ya doin??? Fixing your hair???

The SED is used to measure inflammation. It's one of the diagnostic tests they do for Lupus--my mom's was right on the border--one doc says yes one says no. Anyway, I looked this up for you to read--

That said, try not to worry too much about this--just the Celiac causes some of the same autoimmune symptoms.

Hi Celia! how's the baby? has that been posted earlier and I missed it? kinda spacey today....will go back later...have to go to class....photoshop....going to try and get a photo of my dingos with some geese  we will see.....

(Raising my hand) "I"!

I think Julie is the perfect choice--she has that elegant, regal look :D

Anyway Rachel, you are president and would not have time to devote to both positions. I just found out that I'm your VP! I'm honored :D

President usualoy isn't the regal anyway,

Picard...I had a daughter 2 year ago, and she is the JOY of my life  She is one of the two best things that ever happened to me (the first of course is my dw)

Robin -- I CAN fix a toilet with a hammer, but then it is not so much fixed as out of order  I have a pretty good tool kit, and am learning how to fix most things.

Cissie -- Those ARE some special geese. I am impressed. The only ones we have here at home are loud and s*** all over the golf courses.

Talk to you all soon. There is so much happening here it takes me forever to read it all.

Has anyone ever noticed a correlation between meat from animals that eat grains? I was just wondering because when I went wheat free, I would only eat grass fed cow. Cows are not supposed to gorge on grains like the cow owners think. Their bodies are meant to eat grass, therefore producing a much healthier piece of meat that has much higher omega 3-6-9.

I didn't know if I was being anal or not!

Everyone's cracking me up here again...I love R-Ville. :D

I'm gonna go to the store and get more ice cream. :D

Hopefully I'm not overdoing it but I didnt feel so bad today when all the customers were coming in out of the heat to buy their ice-cream. I'm like...."oh yeah...ice cream huh? Big deal...I can eat that too....gonna have some when I get home, matter of fact." :P

Yeah...I'm talking alot of smack now but lets see how I'm doing next week.

See....this is why I cant be the queen...I'm just not regal at all! :P

I leave you guys alone for a little while and I come back to find I have not only been voted Queen and Greeter of Rachelville, but somehow I am listed as the Governor as well, how did this happen?:lol:

I'm a little embarassed about the Queen thing, everyone has been so kind with their comments, but in real life I am so far from queen material, it's a little hysterical! As long as I don't have to be a stuffy queen, or a look down my nose at the common people queen, if I can be a queen who is able to wear jeans or capri pants, and tank tops and running shoes, flip flops, or go barefoot (no gas station bathrooms of course), and just be my laid back self and hang with the townsfolk, then I will accept the crown. I'm not sure if this is the kind of queen you want

Oh, and rinne (I think tis you who inquired) I already have a King :D ........but if we need one in our cult/farm fantasy land, I could bring along my traffic cop. Patti mentioned we needed one, maybe he could double as the King?

Donna- I am so happy about your test results!!! This is such great news :)

Chelse- Mystery stomach muscle spasms? Could it be possible, another alien baby???

I'm sorry you aren't feeling so great. When I eat gluten, and everything else along with it, I just get worse and worse everyday, typical and normal symptoms are magnified and mystery symptoms seem to come out of nowhere. I bet you are counting the days, hours, minutes until this gluten challenge is over. I think once you can eliminate it again things will fall back into place and normalize soon for you. Hang in there!

evie- I am so sorry you aren't feeling good either. I hope you rest up and take good care of yourself and join us in Rachelville when you can.

Celia- same goes for you, join us in Rachelville when you get tired of spoiling that baby, which will be never so hmmm, wonder if Celia will return?

Susan- Thanks for sharing your great news! You have accomplished such great things with your sobriety and puting a negative relationship behind you, all this at the same time as battling with celiac? Amazing! Congratulations for all that you have triumphed over, this is just the beginning to great and positive things.

p.s. your dogs sound so sweet. I love the story about the one, Annie I think, who goes to the bathroom with you everytime!

Mango- Every time you say you are leaving I am so sad :( I will miss your posts on this forum, you always share such valuable information and support, as well as lots of laughs here in Rachelville. It won't be the same without you, but I know you will have a wonderful adventure, and promise to pop in when you can!!!

Patti- and anyone else this might concern, I tried the Giovanni shampoo and conditioner today for the first time and so far so good. I need to test it out for a couple of weeks for me to see for sure if it will be a keeper, but I like how it made my hair feel really soft and the curl is light and springy. Very promising! So glad your water challenge is going well.

Picard- Congratulations, little girls are sugar and spice and everything nice :)

Cissie- I love your humor and way with words, I'm so glad you have joined us.

Have fun eating your ice cream, enjoy every last bite. What kind ya gonna get??

I have a question, are we sick in Rachelville, or is it a place we can eat anything we want?? I know we have organic farm land and free roaming grass fed cows that provide us with raw unpasteurized milk, and that everything is clean and pure of chemicals and additives and nasty poisons, and loonies of course, where all is peaceful and good..............but do we get to eat ice cream and corn, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and chocolate, and anything else in real life that makes us all sick, and NOT get sick???

April,

Welcome to Rachelville. I do hope you will become a regular. :D Since I've left the vegan diet I've only eaten 100% grass fed beef, I'm not against natural which is mostly grass fed though I prefer the 100% grass fed. I believe the 100% is much healthier for you, and you are right about the omega's. I used to eat the regular stuff....about 10 years ago. What I've noticed with this is that it is soooooo much leaner. Hey, you might be on to something....maybe cows are so sick (aside from deploreable conditions) because they have celiac disease too. :P I do know I've read they need antibiotics because of packed conditions as well as all the grain which they weren't meant to eat.

Yay for good tests results Donna!

Good luck to everyone doing the water challenge! I'm a total believer in the water challenge! I stopped using my water filter and it's great!

Im ok I have been one the meds for 3 days now and unlike rachel they did make me tired- whichI can handle but I also had a reaction to something I ate - it was stupid - lunch meat it was organic turkey but I haven;t been able to handle turkey latley so it could be that or something that was in it - it just sounded good but I am going back to being really careful now!!!

Sometimes it just seems crazzy that food can make me so sick - I don't believe it and than I stupidly eat something I'm not sure about and BAM !!!

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
