Andrea -- Sorry to hear about the kids...I am so afraid of bees it's not even funny. I got stung in the tongue a few years a go and it was horrible....although between them ud, tobacco, and onions, they may have to live outside :P

Susan -- Sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope it passes quickly.

Rachel -- My dx included a loss in excess of 50 pounds. I would be cheering to gain some back as well. My poor wife thinks I am too skinny now.

Vincent -- Keep those updates coming.

I just heard my darling daughter in her crib. Time to go!

Ryan,

OUCH. I can't imagine being stung on the tongue! I've only been stung on the foot three times and I am afraid of the buzzing critters that fly and sting. They are all doing better now. We just used baking soda for a few minutes and have been ice packing it as needed.

Hi everyone--I'm up to my wazoo in paint, but needed to check in :D

Andrea, I hope everyone is recovering nicely from the bee stings :)

Susan, you poor little thing--switch to Dove! Hershey does me in, too. The little "Treasures" come in Dark, Milk or Caramel--and they are better than Hershey! No need for a girl to give up her chocolate :D

Celia--How did the move go? Everyone ok? B)

Talk to ya all later.

Carla,

My hair is driving me nuts... I'm going to shave it all off like that singer - what's her name O'Connor?

Sinead? Is that how you spell her name?

No one likes their own hair. Mine drives me crazy, it's best just to ignore it!

Celia, I'm fine. Thanks for asking....feeling great today. Just discovered this new carbonated pomegranite drink at the store....awesome.

Kids are great. Our daughter (Tasmin) is just a big ham. ANything for a laugh. our son is much better. I am beginning to suspect that MIL was taking him off his meds at randon to sabotage our efforts. We talked to my FIL's girlfriend, a psych nurse, who said Blake appeared to her to be going through withdrawl symptoms while he was there. That could explin the events from earlier this week.

Well, off to bask in the sun before the storms come back.

Hi Patti!

I was just thinking about you.... the spooky thing again  I bet you're getting really close to being done.

Yep we're all fine.... we had to move their furniture into storage until the closing on the house... so we'll have to do all the moving again in a little while... good googly moogly

Andrea,

Glad the kids seem better... I hate to get stung... ouch!!

The weight thing... so, so hard for everyone no matter which side your on... when I put my jeans on and they don't stay up I get scared to death.... I try so hard to gain.... I did gain 1/2 pound!!! YAY

Daxin,

How have you been feeling and how are the kids?

Susan,

My little dingo buddy... you must not be sick... I am so lonely without a 1/3 of the comedy club missing

Miamia,

I've been thinking of you also... I worry about you so much!

Carla,

My hair is driving me nuts... I'm going to shave it all off like that singer - what's her name O'Connor?

You are so sweet- I am trying my hardest and even though I am going through a rough patch (ok have been for3 years) I am still fighting to figure it all out- and this thread has helped me so much!!!

Oh my . . . . things have been quite busy in Rachelville since this morning!!!!

I don't know the joke behind the ice cream . . . but Dave brought home the ingredients for Blueberry Ice Cream (my favorite) and had that . . . if it's a I haven't caught, like the cops are men, then, well, BOHICA :lol::lol:

Don't have much to say, except Nikki -- YOU should be put in charge of infiltrating the Altoids factory . . . are you sneaky??? Think you would have to be sneaky to slither in there!!!!!

Had a good day . . . spent it in the bookstore with my DH!!!! Found GREAT books in the $1.00 and $2.00 section!! There were a lot about how to stay positive with a chronic illness -- they were good ones, too. There were also two books (same title) about how to help your child with chronic pain . . . so if you guys have any children with difficulty, e-mail me (bodyworxinc@hotmail.com) and I'll buy it and send it to you.

Nothing much else to report -- hope you guys have a good night! If I'm plagued with insomnia again (mostly it is because the dog INSISTS on lying beside me (not little Destiny, the big one, Lucky) -- he puts his head at my knees, which makes his BUTT about 12 inches from my face. Doesn't matter how I move, he arranges himself so that he's in that position. Then, as he relaxes, he passes the most obnoxious, horrible gas I have ever smelled in my LIFE. Being 12 inches from my face, you can imagine the effect. So, after two or three of his little "stink bombs", I have to get up until his flatulence is gone!!!!! Have tried everything . . . meds from the vet, chlorophyll breath tablets, you name it . . . nothing works for this guy.) So, should his flatulence occur again tonight, I'll talke with you then!!!!!

Hugs to all in Rachelville,

Lynne

Miamia!!! We finally get to see you.... you're such a pretty, pretty girl!! I knew you looked this that!

I worry about your weight, I think you are the smallest of us all, I pray for you alot!

How's good ol' NY? I was just thinking of you yesturday and thinking about the time you were standing in the street with brain fog, I've been in that situation and it's scary.

It's so nice to see everyone in their pictures!

Aren't you getting tired of all the icecream? Good gaawwwddd your mouth must be frozen :o:lol:

I am just proud i figured out how to put up a picture!!! I have been meaning to do it for so long. New York is HOT- we are in the middle of a heat wave. Its gonna reach 100 on wednesday. And new york heat is horrible because of the humidity.

I think I am the smallest - I swear it is part of what keeps me from getting better but I can't gain weight no matter what I do.

I should be the official town weight taker- I can take all the extra weight people want to lose-

Oh dont worry Im gonna pay for all this ice cream... thats why I only bought enough stuff to make one batch (well... messed up and over bought.. BUT that was the plan  ) All this fruit is realy bad for me

BUUUUUUT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YUMMMY!

Daxin Explorer

Lynne -- be careful...not too many people may know what BOHICA means. Unless I have the meaning wrong. I've been known to do that from time to time.

All this talk of ice cream makes we wish our son was home so I could take him out to DQ. He loves it, and the one here by our place is so good to wipe down everything and make me one of the many flavours of gluten-free blizzards they have (peanut butter cups are my favorite).

:blink::huh::blink::huh:

My mind just went totally blank...

Guess that means I should sign off for now.

I know how you feel.... in 3 months I've only been able to gain 1/2 pound.... that's why I think of you so often because I know how it feels to be so terrified... so scared for yourself, I don't want to end up in the hospital either.

I had gained like 3 pounds and was so excited and then I weighed myself the other night and it was back to the old weight. Its so weird becaus eI have a set image of what I look like and I don't understand why people look at me all the time and then I look in the mirror and it really is scary. I went to florida last weekend- your neck of the woods and trying to figure out what to wear to the beach was so hard I tried on a bathing suit for my mother and we were both in good moods and when I came out we just both started to cry and tried to hide it from eachother. I really really feel for you!!!

Ok.....I updated mine. :P

AndreaB Contributor

Hi Meredith!!! :P:D:)

Do we get you for more than 30 seconds tonight?

Hope you are having a great time. Have you found a job yet?

miamia Rookie
I wish you could have visited me.... I would have loved that... and I would have cried along with you.... ahhh but not for long...because basically most of the time I make fun of what I look like.. :)

People are always making remarks to me too, I try to shrug it off but when I'm feeling vunerable it hurts.

HA.. Andrea

I am the same way- most of the time I don't let it get to me I have grown thick skin and I know I ma doing everything I can to change things. Its just everyonce in a while it gets to me if I am already upset or something. I am way to happy of a person so I really don't spend most of my time down. I go to bed everynight thinking I'll probably be better tomorrow- A bit naive

Hello, @NanceK, I'm glad you're willing to give Benfotiamine with B Complex another go!  I'm certain you'll feel much better.   Yes, supplementation is a good idea even if you're healing and gluten free.  The gluten free diet can be low in B vitamins and other nutrients. A nutritionist can help guide you to a nutrient dense diet, but food sensitivities and food preferences can limit choices.  I can't consume fish and shellfish due to the sulfa hypersensitivity and iodine content, and dairy is out as well.  I react to casein, the protein in dairy, as well as the iodine in dairy.  My Dermatitis Herpetiformis is aggravated by iodine.   Blood tests for B vitamin levels are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have deficiency symptoms before blood levels change to show a deficiency.  I had subclinical vitamin deficiencies for years which affected my health, leading to a slow downward spiral.  Because the B vitamins are water soluble, they are easily excreted in urine if not needed.  It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.   Wheat and other gluten containing grain products have vitamins and minerals added to them to replace those nutrients lost in processing.  Manufacturers add cheap vitamins that our bodies don't absorb or utilize well.  Even normal people can suffer from vitamin deficiencies.  The rise in obesity can be caused by High Calorie Malnutrition, where people eat more carbohydrate calories but don't get sufficient thiamine and B vitamins to turn the calories into energy.  The calories are stored as fat in an effort to ration out diminishing thiamine  stores.    It's time to buy your own vitamins in forms like Benfotiamine that our bodies can use well.   Not sleeping well and fatigue are symptoms of Thiamine deficiency.   I'm certain Benfotiamine with a B Complex will help you immensely.  Just don't take them at night since B vitamins provide lots of energy, you can become too energetic to sleep.  Better to take them earlier in your day.   Do keep me posted on your progress!
    • NanceK
Oh wow! Thanks for this information! I’m going to try the Benfotiamine again and will also add a B-complex to my supplements. Presently, I just take sublingual B12 (methylcobalomin). Is supplementation for celiacs always necessary even though you remain gluten-free and you’re healing as shown on endoscopy? I also take D3, mag glycinate, and try to get calcium through diet. I am trying to bump up my energy level because I don’t sleep very well and feel fatigued quite often. I’m now hopeful that adding the Benfotiamine and B-complex will help. I really appreciate your explanation and advice! Thanks again Knitty Kitty!

@Hmart, The reason why your intestinal damage was so severe, yet your tTg IgA was so minimal can be due to cutting back on gluten (and food in general) due to worsening symptoms.  The tTg IgA antibodies are made in the intestines.  While three grams of gluten per day for several weeks are enough to cause gastrointestinal symptoms, ten grams of gluten per day for for several weeks are required to provoke sufficient antibody production so that the antibodies move out of the intestines and into the blood stream where they can be measured in blood tests.  Since you reduced your gluten consumption before testing, the antibody production went down and did not leave the intestines, hence lower than expected tTg IgA.   Still having abdominal pain and other symptoms this far out is indicative of nutritional deficiencies.  With such a severely damaged small intestine, you are not absorbing sufficient nutrients, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1, so your body us burning stored fat and even breaking down muscle to fuel your body.   Yes, it is a very good idea to supplement with vitamins and minerals during healing.  The eight essential B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost with diarrhea.  The B vitamins all work together interconnectedly, and should be supplemented together.  Taking vitamin supplements provides your body with greater opportunity to absorb them.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins cannot be stored for long, so they must be replenished every day.  Thiamine tends to become depleted first which leads to Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a condition that doctors frequently fail to recognize.  Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi are abdominal pain and nausea, but neuropathy can also occur, as well as body and joint pain, headaches and more.  Heart rhythm disruptions including tachycardia are classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  Heart attack patients are routinely administered thiamine now.   Blood tests for vitamins are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have "normal" blood levels, while tissues and organs are depleted.  Such is the case with Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a thiamine deficiency in the digestive tract.  Eating a diet high in carbohydrates, like rice, starches, and sugar, can further deplete thiamine.  The more carbohydrates one eats, the more thiamine is required per calorie to turn carbs into energy.  Burning stored fats require less thiamine, so in times of thiamine shortage, the body burns fat and muscles instead.  Muscle wasting is a classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  A high carbohydrate diet may also promote SIBO and/or Candida infection which can also add to symptoms.  Thiamine is required to keep SIBO and Candida in check.   Thiamine works with Pyridoxine B 6, so if Thiamine is low and can't interact with Pyridoxine, the unused B 6 accumulates and shows up as high.   Look into the Autoimmune Protocol diet.  Dr. Sarah Ballantyne is a Celiac herself.  Her book "The Paleo Approach" has been most helpful to me.  Following the AIP diet made a huge improvement in my symptoms.  Between the AIP diet and correcting nutritional deficiencies, I felt much better after a long struggle with not feeling well.   Do talk to your doctor about Gastrointestinal Beriberi.  Share the article linked below. Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/ Keep us posted on your progress!
    • Trish G
Thanks, that's a great addition that I hadn't thought of.
    • trents
Other diseases, medical conditions, medications and even (for some people) some non-gluten foods can cause villous atrophy. There is also something called refractory celiac disease but it is pretty uncommon.
