Dear Laura,

I know you must be really worried. Let us know when you get the results of the test. We know how difficult waiting is. It literally can drive you crazy! Hopefully, there will be good news.

Dear Patti,

Hello Angel Spice! How are you today? Well, I got your PM. I hope I explained everything alright. The situation is complicated.

Dear Susie,

Yay! Shakespeare! :D I miss reading it. Yeah, I have not been much on dating anyway. Since that guy nearly raped me that I was friends with for three years several years ago, I am too afraid. They all just look like hungry werewolves ready to eat me, drooling with huge teeth. No thank you! The only guy I really want is married. He is a soap actor!

Dear Donna,

I took a Japanese Art class in high school! I was lucky they had it my junior year. They stopped having it after that but every other semester. It is a good thing I got to it when I did! I wish I had those slippers! You are so lucky to have them all!

Dear Carla,

Yep, there has certainly been some flirting going on! Who knows? Maybe they were meant for each other? There is this new thing called speed dating. That sounds kind of cool. One lady found her husband that way! Imagine finding your soulmate in three minutes! I feel that if two people are meant to be together, it will happen!

Sincerely,

Jin

Oh no- not one day- more like 5 (started literally immediately after I took my first pill). Scared the heck out of me. I'm feeling a *little* better today.

called my LLMD and haven't heard back. Just wondering if the first is the worst. Or if I should brace myself for ALL of them.

Yes- Carla- you can come to Camel back but Susie is MY nanny. Can you bring Morgan? :P

I also love the Big Sur River Inn because you can go sit in the river in these cool chairs and have your margaritas delivered.

Ah yes - wet feet, a cold drink, and a big white Adirondack!

Hi Jin--Thanks :D Hope you're having a great day!

Hi Bev--Sorry this herx is so rough on you :( I'll be interested to hear what your doctor says.

OMGosh...I didn't even know that was there and the picture looked heavenly! Where's a dreamy smilie when you need it. :P

Three is a short one for me ... every 24 days, 3-6 days long. :( Last time was two weeks, but I had a cold at the time, so I can't blame it all on herx.

Whoa! I'd never heard of such a thing! Is there progress in betw? Is there a trend to the herxes? Wow, how long has this been going on?

Adam and I both stopped in our tracks the first time we SAW each other. It was like our guardian angels tapped us on the shoulder and said, "That's the one!" It's actually very odd.

Just wondering if the first is the worst. Or if I should brace myself for ALL of them.

Brace yourself. :( Especially once you start going after the babesia. :(:(

I can bring Morgan ... she can take care of both of us when Susan's away. ;) I live in a house with 8 people ... I know how to SHARE!:lol:

Dear Donna,

I wish you could have gotten those slippers, too! Maybe another time? Getting those for $7 is pretty good! Most pairs I have seen are at least $20! That is a good amount off!

Dear Patti,

My day has been busy. I started getting queasy after eating cereal again. :( I took my medication. I feel a little better now. I am drowsy, though.

Sincerely,

Jin

It's the nature of Lyme treatment. Each herx lowers the bacterial load, so after each herx, you feel slightly better than before. That's how progress is made.

In the beginning, I just felt bad all the time, then I started noticing the herxes more and the slight improvement.

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Carla,

That is weird! You and Adam were meant to be together for sure! I think a lot of people believe angels bring you together. That makes sense to me. There is such a thing as love at first site.

I THINK i feel better and may be at the tail end of surviving my first herx. Holy moly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bev...sounds like the herx was heinous!! Glad you're coming out of it and feeling better....phew! :)

I think he should be Saxy Spice :P

Saxy Spice.

Yeah...I think its perfect! ;)

Donna....you crack me up with all the fuzziness keeping your feet warm.

Loved all your artwork by the way. :)

All this talk about Big Sur and Nepenthe (dont think I've been to either place) is making me miss the great outdoors...all the camping, exploring....OMG...sitting in chairs on the river sipping margaritas!! Is there really anything much better thatn that!!

Thankfully, I'm not much afraid of the outdoors even after all this..I wanna be out there enjoying it asap!!

The dentist office is another story altogether...

Hey Donna...

I forgot to mention this yesterday but Dr. Amy does prefer her patients to be off of everything before she sees them. I had only taken a couple things on Saturday night but she needed to know what I'd taken and when.

She said there are advantages either way....but she prefers testing when all treatment has been stopped so that she can get the clearest picture of whats going on.

It makes sense....I would think that if you're taking something which is working really well at controlling a certain infection or managing something else going on in your body...it seems like it could possibly prevent it from showing up in testing. Whereas if you're totally off of treatment she can have a better picture of how significant certain infections (or other issues) are.

Thats my guess anyway...that the supplements could "mask" things so that they either...dont show up at all...or they dont show up as strongly as they would off of treatment.

I actually hadnt taken anything for Lyme or Babs in almost 2 weeks...I did this last time too because I wanted to make sure they arent showing up weakly because of treatment.

I also asked her why she thinks I got soooo messed up from the mercury to begin with?? She said that most likely I was having problems with the detox pathway long before I got sick....that I was probably already at a full load...the mercury just totally pushed me over the edge....it was the last straw.

Thats basically the same thing both Anna and Dr. S. had said about it.

Even Dr Rick (though at first he didnt believe mercury was the underlying cause) had said that things piled up and even though it was one thing that broke the camels back.... many things were going on before my body reached that point.

So Amy said once the mercury came into it and the scales tipped....yeast pretty much "exploded" in order to help my body cope with the metals. So now the yeast/molds are basically trapped in my body along with the metals. Theres no way for my body to release the metals and no way that I can get rid of yeast as its binding with the metals.

She said the same thing that Dr. S and Anna said.....its now gonna be a "back and forth" thing with symptoms of both flaring up throughout treatment. Anything I do to move the metals out will cause the yeast to flare up big time and anything I do to kill off yeast will release mercury and cause symptoms from that. BOO-HOO :(

On the bright side my sauna should be coming any day now. :D

Scott said he knows which one I got and that his is basically the same...except his is the "lay down" kind and mine is the kind you sit in. He said it will work really good. :)

Stupid mercury and yeast have turned off my internal heater.

Cant wait to get totally hot and sweaty. :P

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Rachel,

It is such a bummer about the pathways! That mercury is making everything a problem!

What can they do to fix the pathways? The mercury and Candida both sound stuck right now. I know they are trying those other supplements. The sauna should help, too. I think the LED therapy will likely help open up the pathways, though so the herbs can do their job.

Sincerely,

Jin

You have no idea, that's only the beginning.

One night shortly after we met, I drank some beer (not with him) ... between the Lyme and the gluten intolerance, I was pretty sick. The next day, he wanted to get together, but I told him I was too sick. So, he walked all the way across campus (I had a car so could have driven to his frat house). He took me out for some fresh air and that was the first time he thought he could marry me. When I was sick. I guess it was his vocation to care for me.

Then we didn't date for over a year because I realized what an @ss he really is. My Mr. Darcy!

dlp252 Apprentice

Rachel,

Yeah, it makes sense to be off the supplements. The only thing really different in my case though was that this time he didn't find a viral infection...last time I had some sort of viral thing happening.

I thought one of the main purposes to NOT taking the supplements before testing was to see how much your body really wants them...this time Scott found a couple more things I didn't need or my body doesn't like, BUT I'd been taking my other supplements...so maybe with those things in my system, my body didn't need the other stuff. Phew, I think I just confused myself. :P

I sm so excited for you to get your sauna. I really want one too...so yours is a sit down model? Cool.

Oh, and I just called to put my name on Dr. Amy's list...but Amy (the receptionist) isn't there today...some guy took my name and phone number. :P Said he'd give it to Amy tomorrow.

dlp252 Apprentice

Carla that is too funny! See, you know someone REALLY cares when they will take care of you when you're sick!

Yeah, and when I tell him he's an @ss, he says, "Yes, but you knew that and married me anyway." I can say the same thing about my being ill.

He says he likes taking care of me ... then made a joke about being guilty of Muchausen by proxy.

The B-12 shots might help alot. Some people start making alot of progess once they got on B-12. Its needed for methylation and that is one of the essentials for detoxing mercury. She said all of the autistic kids she treats have the same problem and also have the same problems with sulfur. They improve with B12.

Shes doing a test to see if the LED therapy will do me some good. We dont know yet...but because of the sulfur issue she thinks it might really help alot. Thats the exact reason why I felt like the LED treatments would be worthwhile the first time I learned of it.

I'll find out more later on this week after she runs the test. Also the test she's running (with my saliva) can tell her alot of other things. She said its similar to what Anna does at BioSET but its "new generation".

She said it can pick up things that she may not be finding...even in ART. So she wants to determine how well LED will work for me...if at all...and at the same time see if theres anything else that shows up which may have been missed in other testing.

OMGosh!!! Super hyperventilation going on here... I may have to sing my solo as soon as June 24th! It was scarey enough when I thought I had a couple of months to go...that's like NEXT weekend.

Okay, I need everyone's expert weaseling out techniques! :P

That place is heaven.......I miss it so much it hurts. :(

rach - when you're all better, you CAN go down to Ventana and Nepenthe - - just sit safely on teh patio and LOOK at the beauty around you. You won't have to get all nerdily dressed w/ socks pulled over pants and duct tape, either. ;)

I need some help. I started on a new medicine about 4 days ago. It is NABUMETONE, generic for RELAFEN. I feel like I am being glutened from it. I have stopped taking it as of today to see if my symptoms change back to normal. I know am 99% sure I have not gotten any thing else that is gluten. But what I need to know is if any one knows what is in this or if any one knows where I can look on the internet to find the ingredients.

Thank you,

Grump

@rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck
    • rei.b
Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅
    • knitty kitty
So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.
    • rei.b
I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
