I have one of those "bagless" ones. The dust and dirt just goes into a plastic thingy and you dump it out. I think I just need to replace filters....but where the heck do I get them??? :unsure:

You might have to order them from the manufacturer.

Well, I don't have strep throat, thank goodness. Still don't know what I have but it's not strep. I was able to get into see one of my mainstream doctors. I was also able to get the EKG my HN doctors wanted me to get. That came out completely normal. Of course it did, lol. My blood pressure was only 86/60 in the doctor's office though. Temperature had come up to 98.2 (at home it was 96 and 97.3 or some such thing), so they didn't even blink an eye there. The doctor gave me a prescription for antibiotics and said to hang on to it...if I'm not getting better by Thursday she said I should take them. Also if I wake up tomorrow obviously worse, I should take them.

Judy - I think it's more likely I got it in Disneyword or on the planes/airport coming home. They were so diligent about hand sanitizers on the ship, but at Disneyworld there wasn't anything like that of course, AND, there were lots of kids. I wasn't quite as diligent of using my hand wipes in Disneyworld as I should have been.

Hey Donna--

Glad at least it's not strep.

Last spring, I had a painful sore throat for 6 days before I went to the doctor--with no other symptoms other than a little nausea. I was negative for strep, and a few days later, it went away. I would have sworn I had strep because it was actually going around here. Sounds similar to what you have going on. Nasty little virus buggers :angry:

It really does feel better after drinking tea. And, I was wondering if the salt water gargle thing would also work if I swallowed the salt water (as in the salt therapy Rinne was taking about, lol). The HN receptionist told me I could take Vit C every hour if I wanted to--that that's what they do when someone needs Vit C therapy...I don't know if I want to take that much cuz I'd be in the bathroom all day tomorrow, lol, but a little more than I've been taking wouldn't hurt and along with the salt water...

I never got the tests you had done for mercury or other metals. Was this a recent test from when you went to the seminar?? I only had hair analysis which showed high cadmium and something else... I think bismuth?? :unsure:

Rachel, these were blood tests that were done through regular laboratories but I think they are not generally done. They tested me for: lead; mercury; selenium; arsenic; copper; zinc; chromium; cadmium; thallium; potassium; calcium; magnesium; cobalt; manganese; molyodenum; vanadium; antimony; nickel.

Mercury is high and manganese is low but other than that I fall within the normal range.

Wow, I'm sort of shocked they sent you a card, lol, but that's really nice...and I guess they DID really know, lol. :lol: They couldn't see me today (Dr. Carrie was out and Rosie wasn't sure she tested for strep anyway). So I went to Camino Med. I needed to get an EKG done anyway (Dr. Carrie wrote me a "prescription" way back in October, lol), so it worked out very well.

HN is certainly TRYING to get me well...I'll find out tomorrow what the stool tests showed and what medicine she prescribed for whatever it is they found, lol. :lol: I only know I'll get some prescription med tomorrow for something they found in the stool test. :lol:

Rinne, I've been getting kicked off a lot lately too...In my case I think it's AOL's fault. I got kicked off three times on the weekend while trying to catch up with my 40 pages.

I'm still not sure what the friends feature does/is, and I've been haphazardly adding people as friends...no rhyme or reason to how I went/am going about it. I've been too tired to spend any length of time online lately. I too consider everyone here dear friends whether or not I've added them as friends.

I'm guessing they found a parasite cuz Dr. Rick used to tell me that they *always* find parasites. They didnt find any in me though. :P

There was another girl on this board earlier this year that was also going to HN...started the same time as me. She had a parasite and they gave her meds for it.

My regular Dr. is at Camino Medical too....I wouldnt be surprised if we had the same Dr. there too. :lol: I see Dr. Vilardo....for the "regular" stuff.....which is really only scripts for my thyroid meds.

She doesnt know about all this other stuff....she looks at me and declares me "healthy". :rolleyes:

She's nice though. :)

Hope you are feeling better soon rinne. I too have been getting dropped off here for quite sometime, even before the additions to the forum, but have been dropped from other places too. must be a few ghremlins in our computers lately. I did a lot of napping Monday also, must have eaten something I should not have had on Sat., paid for it all day Sunday with D and really got to it Monday and was sick. sunday was not a good day to be running to bathroom as we were having our family christmas dinner here but i did not talk about it and don't think anyone noticed (good).

I saw a bunch of pages back that you had a new gr. child, boy or girl? Always a happy time!! :D Take good care of yourself. I also consider all of the forum people my good friends. evie

Anyone know if Imagine broths (come in a box) are still gluten-free??? I thought it used to say it on the box but I might be confused with another brand. :unsure:

I've been having some beef broth the past week...its yummy and warm. :)

I wake up feeling kind of nauseus but it goes away fast. It has spices and other stuff and I'm still reactive to almost everything I eat.....just wanted to make sure it wasnt gluten though.

I think soon we will be starting on foods at Bioset. :D

suduko- very addictive!! I discovered it and then got my sister addicted too. It actually is kind of calming for me if I am really uncomfortable it helps me to zone out.

It seems like everyone has been posted less. I ahve been too I've just been really exhausted and basically am waiting for results so don't have much health info til I get some of them back.

I was just reading about - and have always read about the healing powers of broths I always think to get them but whenever I ahve bought them in the past they end up sitting in my cabinet. I am always cold so you would think I would want soup but I never do.

I am so interested to hear about how the bioset works for you in terms of food reactions - if it helps you I think I would be convinced to give it a go!!! So make sure you post I am waiting eagerly for your reaction!!!

A number game...very addicting. I have it in electronic version which is quite fun...took it on vacation with me. There is a large square, broken up into 9 smaller blocks, which contain 9 smaller squares. The idea is that each row, each column, each medium block will only contain the number 1-9 one time. So you have to fit the numbers in, like a puzzle, so that each row, column and block only has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 one time. Hard to explain in written form I guess, lol. Usually, they give you a few of the numbers in the correct places to give you a head start.

Thanks Mia...it's funny cuz I usually don't catch a normal cold, lol. I don't think this is either cuz I haven't sneezed at all...it may be bronchitis...it's going down into my chest today. Grrr.

I had a comprehensive stool testing done before Thanksgiving. These are the results of that testing.

      Usually when I digest gluten or wheat I have a 4 hour window before reacting.  If it is immediate it may be an intollerence to another food.  Dairy, Frutose, and bacteria (SIBO) will react with many of the celiac disease symtoms.Has your Doctor ran a  Fructose test which is measuring your Fruit Sugar?  A Hydrogen Beath Test which checks your intestinal bacteria and Dairy?After my biopsy and blood work, these (3) tests were also ran, along with allergy tests, which allery test was sent out of State.  It was a mouth swab. How fast you heal depends on the diet you are following… The following are my personal recommendations to healing. I talk to many newly diagnosed people who start the gluten-free diet with pasta, breads, snacks, and pizza. After a month or so, they do not know why they don’t feel any better and still are sick with their original symptoms: They worry the diet is not working for them. For some there may be other factors involved, but most just aren’t letting their body heal properly. I blame the internet, and misinformation it contains. People want a quick fix, not realizing this is a life long disease. They need a good support group, with people who have been through this and knows what works!  This is what I have found will work for you.                                                                                            First 6 weeks should be:                                                                                                                                 lean meat (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, salmon, sardines, buffalo, deer)                                                   fresh vegetables (steamed or roasted with a little Olive Oil) with 2 cups per day being raw (5 servings; a serving is 1/2 cup)                                                                                                                                      fresh fruit (3 servings; include strawberries, blackberries and blueberries daily)  Makes good shakes with Almond milk.                                                                                                                                        A hand full of almonds daily (pecans and walnuts can be substituted)                                                        brown rice, lentils, Citrucel daily (or the equivalent) Good source of fiber. I use Calm because my body doesn’t absorb Magnesium and I only need to take once in evening.                                                    No dairy of any kind (milk, cheese, yogurt, No breads, No past,  No oats, No pizza, No gluten-free beer, No snacks like cake, biscuits, pies, donuts.                                                                                                Many dietitians will tell you to follow a gluten free diet but you have to heal first. Don’t misunderstand me, dietitians are our friends and help us.                                                                                              10% of people with gluten-free will be intolerant to dairy                                                                                  10% can not tolerate oats                                                                                                                     After the six weeks, you can start to add these foods back into your diet. 1 new food every 4 days; this way you know if you react to this food.                                                                                                  Oats shouldn’t be tried for 1 year after being diagnosed; then start with 1/3 of a cup. Only gluten-free Oats are acceptable.                                                                                                                                              You should have results within 3 days of following a correct healing diet. Bloating should be leaving, migraines should be gone. Might take bowels a little longer to respond.       Marsh 3b is the Gold Standard of diagnosis for Celiac Disease.  Until recently, regardless of antibody tests, positive or negative, you had to have Marsh 3 damage to be awarded the diagnosis of Celiac. As I understand you,  you were having constant symptoms..  Your symptoms improved on GFD, with occassional flare ups. Did your doctor say you do and you are questioning the diagnosis? Regarding your increasing severity when you get glutened it is "normal".  Gluten acts on the Opiod receptors to numb your body.  Some report withdrawal symptoms on GFD.  I was an alcoholic for 30 years, about 1/2 pint of voda a day. Each time I identified a trigger and dealt with it, a new trigger would pop up.  Even a 30 day rehab stint, with a low fat diet (severe pancreatis) during which I rarely had cravings.  Stopped at a Wendys on the way home and the next day I was drinking again.  20 years later, sick as a dog, bedridden on Thanksgiving, after months of reasearch, I realized that gluten free was my Hail Mary.  Back in 1976 my son was diagnosed at weaning by biopsy with Celiac Disease and his doctor suggested my wife and I should also be gluten free because it is genetic.  At 25 years old I felt no gastro problems and promised if I ever did I would try gluten free.  Well, I forgot that promise until I was 63 and my wife 10 years dead.  Three days of gluten and alcohol free, I could no longer tolerate alcohol. Eleven years gluten and alcohol free, with no regrets. Improvement was quick, but always two steps forward and one back.  Over time I found nineteen symptoms that I had been living with for my entire life, that doctors had said, "We don't know why, but that is normal for some people". Celiac Disease causes multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  It is an autoimmune disease, meaning your immune system B and T cells create antibodies against ttg(2) in the small intestine in Celiac Disease, and sometimes ttg(3) in skin in Dermatitis Herpetiformus.  'Why' is poorly understood.  In fact, it wasn't even known that wheat, barley and rye gluten was the cause.  Celiac Disease was also called Infantilism, because it was deadly, and believed to only be a childhood disease. So, as part of your recovery you must deal with those deficiencies.  Especially vitamin D because it contols your immune system.  Virtually all newly diagnosed Celiacs have vitamin D deficiency.  There are about 30 vitamin and minerals that are absorbed in the small intestine.  With Marsh 3 damage you may be eating the amount everyone else does, but you are not absorbing them into your system, so you will display symptoms of their deficiency.   As time passes and you replenish your deficiencies you may notice other symptoms improve, some you did not even know were symptoms. Our western diet has many deficiencies built into it.   That is the reason foods with gluten are fortified.  Gluten free processed food are not required to fortify.  Vitamin D, Iodine, choline.  The B vitamins, especially Thiamine (B1) run deficient quickly.  We only store enough thiamine for 2 weeks so the symptoms of Gastrointestinal BeriBeri can come and go quickly.  Magnesium, zinc, etc. each having its own symptoms affecting multiple systems.  High homocystene, an indicator of vascular inflamation can be cause by deficient Choline, folate, B6 and or B12.  Brain fog symptoms by deficient choline, iodine, thiamine B1.       I cut out the rice because it was affecting my stomach at the time ... not necessarily dermatitis herpetiformis. It was Tilda Basmati Rice, sometimes wholegrain rice. I was willing to do whatever it took to heal. Too much fiber also disagrees with me as I have UC.

      But you didn't answer my question. When you consume gluten, is there an identifiable reaction within a short period of time, say a few hours?
