Ditto to 'good trip for Armetta and Lynne'!! :) I am sure they will have a good trip, always good to go on vacation somewhere!!

Hope you are doing better today Susan, if not just make the best of it and don't beat yourself up too much

for not being the way you want to be. It will come. Not expecting much from myself today with an unusually DIZZY head. Don't know where this came from but we are all different after we go gluten free. Not expecting to accomplish much today even if I should be busy. Have a good day all!! :) evie PS .. I like the new 'cat' on the board, cute!!

Nope Leah....no painting...here's what happened.....

I found myself in a three-day funk and in that case it is best to stay away from methods of communication....and no painting yesterday. BUT...my neighbor had about half a ton of leftover pea gravel, which her nephew and I carted and shovelled into my side/back yard, where those lovely trash cans are - it was a hideous sight. SO much better now. This entailed digging up much grass to replant onto the parts where those naughty dingos have RUINED the grass. Did some more planting, mowed the lawns, and cut edges BY HAND (don't know how to use a weed-whacker), transplanted some grass (not sure if this was a good idea in 102 weather, we'll see). It was a productive day but I didn't have the stamina to paint again...ugh.....BUT some more good news....I was talking to a male friend last night, and he has volunteered his whole men's Bible Study to come rip out my carpet! I won't get too excited until I see carpet hooks in hand and those rolls being carried off. :)

Today - an interview at a personnel agency for a part-time job with a very decent schedule. I don't know anything else about the job, she was not so nice over the phone, but, if the words "excel spreadsheets" or "bookkeeping" or "accounts payable/receivable" - anything having anything to do with numbers - come out of her mouth, she will simply see an empty chair and a cloud of dust in my wake.

Hi Evie! Sorry about the dizzy head....you just rest and take it easy today. :)

Indeed, Bon Voyage Lynne and Armetta!

hope you all are well - - where is Cissie? do I need to send the dingos? they are bored and would love the chalenge....

see you!

Yardwork is therapeutic too! Especially the kind that wears you out. Nothing gets rid of angst for me better than digging out our clay soil with a mattock! When my kids get into trouble, the yard gets a new bed... I hope they behave themselves for a while now-- I do want SOME lawn...

:) Hey Matilda, Welcome to Tazorac Land, lol. Nice to see another kitty too! Penguin -that avatar is a good combination. A skunk tail would look cute on there too.

I just read a very interesting article in Redbook (Sept. 06-current issue) on hormones. One thing that stuck out for me was the section on IBS -I didn't know that 95% of serotonin we produce in our bodies is made in the intestines!! This really explains why so many of us have problems with depression AND to complicate things even more, estrogen can cause irritable bowel flare-ups, so it is reasonable to assume that any bowel problem will cause chaos in our hormones/chemical balance. This is even more reason to "fight the good fight" for our health, ladies.

Susan & Leah, yes, I understand the creativity vs. depression "syndrome" -I can't seem to get started on a creative project when I am really depressed-if I do press on and write or sketch or whatever, though it sometimes comes out as a really wonderful piece and it is through the whole process that I can sometimes get out of the pit. And it IS a pit and very hard to drag out of - thank you all for being here-when I check in here, I get a smile and a sense of community that is hard out in the world with everyone so busy doing their own thing. Susan, you are not alone and don't think about the future or the past too much-focus on each moment-I am trying really hard to do that-(plus, pulling weeds, digging flower beds, & cleaning till exhausted helps, as you found with your yard work, doesn't it give a great sense of accomplishment?!) You should be proud of how far you have come and NEVER ashamed about medication. If you need it, take it. You would take your insulin shots if you were diabetic, right? I think of you all and you are in my prayers-

Armetta & Lynne-Having a blast, I hope and winning some $$.

Celia-so glad you "resurrected" this thread, lol. You are a sunshine girl :D

Evie--Do you watch "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson on HGTV?!! It is one of my favorite morning routine shows. I do not quilt as yet, but I have quilting books and am planning on trying it one of these days. I need to get one of those large magnifier glasses on a stand I saw a woman using on needlework -looks like just the ticket. I gained some far vision-but lost my near vision, so now I use a small magnifing glass for crafts and bifocals which I wear on my chain, or on the top of my head which I forget a lot that they are up there and search the house, lol

CISSIE WHERE ARE YOU ??? I picture eighteen little grandchildren and cissie making mud pies or painting their faces :) We miss you, girlfriend :)

Take care All !!! love & joy :)

Hello everyone. How did your job interview go Susan?

rinne Apprentice

Hello everyone. :)

I've never tried Tazorac but lately I have been using coconut butter and feel like my skin is looking a little better. Does anyone else use it?

I've had more energy lately, thanks to the Salt/Vitamin C treatment and still have my house torn up with projects. I am going to try to take photos of the floors in stages so the process is obvious and I will post them. The one floor actually fooled a friend, he thought they were real wood. I was going to paint today but it is raining, not the best day for paint to dry so I think I will put it off. Perhaps I will get it together to post some scientificness on the OMG thread. :D

Ever since my computer started acting up, maybe Windows 2000 is just too old ;) , and Rachelville split into three subdivisions I have felt a little lost here. I can't keep up. :P

CarlaB Enthusiast

I use coconut oil, is that the same thing? I love it. Morgan does, too. She asked if it was bad to use because she felt like she was addicted to it.

What is the salt/vitamin C treatment for? I sure could use some more energy.

rinne Apprentice

Carla, I've been using the Spectrum organic coconut oil, did I say butter?

The Salt/Vitamin C treatment is being used by people with Lyme disease. Just google Salt/C and lots of information comes up. After reading about it, it just made sense to me that the lack of good salt in out diets has changed us in a way that makes us vulnerable to bacterial infections. I am taking only 1/4 teaspoon of Real Salt (brand name) and Vitamin C powder mixed in a large glass of water twice a day. I don't use the standard Iodized table salt at all. It has given me more energy but I think it is also producing herxes which could mean that I have some kind of bacterial infection that it is killing off. The herxes are healing crisis. I'll try and get it together to post something on the OMG thread that is scientific but it may take me a bit to organize my thoughts. I am also interested to see if there are other changes.

How are you doing Julie? Cecile? Susan? Patti? Morgan? Rachel? Evie? Andrea? Karen? Cissie? Leah? And I know I am forgetting....

AndreaB Contributor

Hi Rinne! :D

I'm doing good. Just getting ready to head out the door to pick up hubby's paycheck. He won't be home in time to get it.

I wanted to say "hi" though. :P

Hi, I'm just a drive-by too, off to the gym! I'm riding high because I think I've finally talked my sister into being tested! I'm 90% sure she's Celiac, & will find so much relief gluten-free...

Might check in later if I get home before my dh...

HERE I AM, ROBBIN! I've been dealing with stuff not connected to gluten. One thing is that I think I have pernicious anemia. Over the last three or four years I've gradually lost my energy, motivation, etc., and I sleep way too much! Then another problem cropped up that really scared me; sometimes my throat closes up and I can't swallow! Most of the time it happens when I take a calcium tablet - or try to - and I must take calcium! A few days ago a light bulb clicked on in my tired brain: Hey! My sister A. had the same symptoms, plus neurological problems, and discovered she has PA. She'll be getting B-12 shots the rest of her life. (My family is chock-full of auto-immune diseases!) I talked to Cecile about all this, and she thinks I could very well be right about the PA, so I have a doctor's appointment Tuesday to get tested.

Another problem I'm dealing with is GERD. I was taking Zantac twice a day, but stopped a couple of weeks ago as a test to see if I really need it. Evidently I DO, because the severe chest pain came back. Sometimes I do the dumbest things!!! Sometimes? Hah!

Then, on top of everything else, my dumb computer started freezing up on me! I spent half the day (yesterday) trying to fix it, but it would have helped if I'd known what I was doing! :P Late last night, Dumb Dodo The Computer started behaving herself, but alas and alack! She's back to her old tricks today. Guess I'll have to call on my cousin for help. He's the one who insisted that I buy a Mac in the first place. It's all his fault!

Has your eye surgeon done anything different for your eyes recently? I'm still worrying about your eyesight! My new lenses (from cataract surgery) totally corrected my astigmatism and far vision, but I still have to use strong reading glasses. It has to do with age and the inevitable rigidity of a muscle. I got some cute reading specs, that I wear halfway down on my nose. The wonderful thing about wearing them is that they hide the bags under my eyes!!! ;) I love it!!!

I wonder if Redbook has a website that would allow me to read the article you were talking about. I remember that, waaay back in the omg thread, Cecile posted some good information about hormones, but I'm not going to try to find it! Something about why women can't drink as much as men. Some people pooh-poohed something she had said (?), so she posted the scientific stuff about hormones and drinking. Maybe she'll read this, and then post the website. Cecile, are you there?

Amen on your medication comment, Robbin!!! If you need it, take it!!!

Gotta run an errand, so must close.

Love, hugs, and prayers to all! :):):)

Cissie

Ooops! I just noticed Cecile's comment about hormones. That's what I get for premature posting!

Oh God, I just got a call from a friend telling me that a dear friend is dying... she's been battling breast cancer for several years but it has suddenly spread to her lungs and kidneys... the doctor is saying she may not live through this week. I'm just heartbroken... this is a wonderful, wonderful woman, so smart & kind & creative & funny... her poor daughter just started college this week... I just don't know what to do... not sure if she can even have visitors; my friend (her best friend of 30 years) is there now at least... she's checking. But I am feeling so helpless and sad & angry... I just don't understand...

Oh, that's awful! I'm sorry, I'll say a prayer for her and her family!

Good to see everyone and good to see YOU, cissie. Been worried about you and so glad you've talked to Cecile about your issues - - that is what immediatley popped into my mind as I read of your swallowing troubles.

You can you it to replace butter in all recipes if it is refined. If it is unrefined, then only in recipes that you don't mind the coconut flavor in. I used refined with carob powder, mix it up add a touch of sugar and milk, some coconut (shredded) and some sliced almonds for you own smooth homemade type almond joy.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
