I was an educational assistant at our local high school in New Jersey....I absolutely loved working with the high school kids--if I had it to do over, I would have become a guidance counselor. :)

Same here....although sometimes I feel like one anyway. I got the most wonderful note from a student the other day. She had gotten a Red Star award for being "most improved student". She gave me her red star and wrote that it would not have been possible if it weren't for all I have done for her and that I should keep the note forever so I will always remember how much I mean to her.<<<lipquiveringeyeswellingup>>>>She addressed it to Dear Mom (she sometimes calls me that)

OMG - what is the current acceptable answer for "what is your biggest weakness??????" Can I say.....staying in my pj's too long? Eating too many nuggets? Mowing my lawn every 10 days to two weeks instead of every week, like all of my Stepford neighbors? Trapping cars that try to tailgate and pass? spending too much time with me sillies?

Me too! Bev, you are closer than I am. About 8 hours driving, not counting the delay at the border, for me.

Oliver, the giant ginger tabby seen in two of the pictures I shared, may have some Maine Coon in him.

Like all of our cats, he is a rescue, so we don't know his background. He has been with us since October of 1996. He is 30 inches long and weighs 22 pounds. He is gentle and sometimes follows us around.

Becky, the brown tabby that you have seen from time to time in my avatar, probably also has Maine Coon in her. The consensus seems to be that one of her parents was a Maine Coon. She was rescued as a stray in 2000 at the age of two.

Laura must join the party!

Last year I got a note from a girl that said, "Thanks for helping me become a better person". Things like that remind me why I'm there.....becaus for every one you are able to reach out to, there are a gazillion hormonal freakazoids that you couldn't get across to if you hit them with a baseball bat!!:lol::lol: ( I really do love my job! :P )

OOH!....reminds me of a story.....

Two years ago, near the end of the school year, I read some poems written by a boy for a class assignment and thought they were awesome...so I asked him if I could copy them.

A couple days later he brings me a notebook and asks if I wanted to read some more of his poems.

I read them and thanked him for sharing them with me. ( Many were dark and disturbing, but yet very well written) and I expressed my concern.

I got a long note from him explaining how he no longer feels that way and how thrilled he was that I enjoyed his poetry and that he'd never shared them with anyone before.

He was an 8th grader at the time and moving on to HS.

Over the summer he e-mailed me often, talking about problems with friends, parents, and eventually that he realized that he was homosexual (which I already figured out)

I always gave him parental-type advice in a way that I thought he would listen.

....Then he met someone and proceeded to tell me about this first encounter with another boy....Tongue and all!!!! :o TMI!!!! :o:o:o

Worse, she probably spent a lot more time than we were originally led to believe inside her crate. :( So, all this activity, including the long romps in our backyard with Gus, may be a big shock to her system. I'm just not sure......

Let's hope that this is the case and she just needs to build up her leg muscles a little :)

I just sent my resume to the gal. I may vomit.

Gosh, I know that feeling. It's going to work out fine, Susie--you don't have to do anything you're not ready for ;) And there's no shame in that :)

Em - here's hopin it's something simple . . . just some over training or such . . . needs to warm up, stretch more . . . perhaps she should start off with some Yoga . . . I bet she'd be good at downward facing dog.

Morning, All!!

The Philly Silly Psummit....I am getting SO excited about this. I was thinking about it late into the night...

Last year I got a note from a girl that said, "Thanks for helping me become a better person". Lisa, you must be terrific at what you do...One must be, to illicit these kinds of responses and interactions with even the most open of teenagers. Those kids are lucky to have you!

Now, my diplomat students....SIGH....dunno what they'd say if asked whether or not they felt lucky to have ME. Tell ya one thing, however - - their responses would be completely free of all misplaced modifiers and dangling participles. I hope. <_<

Sorry sillies....I can't get on the Philly bandwagon :( ......I absolutely detest car trips!

Lisa!! How long a drive is it? Are you as far from Philly as Janet is? You could come together, and take driving shifts, and entertain each other so that the time just whips by!

OMG!!!! They're ALL going to Silladelphia!!!! :D:blink:

[Edit oh .. ..not ALL]

Ptaoughmnhgmn!!!

Hmmmmmmm....how do we get you there.....

We'll have to think of somefin' for you and Susie....

Yes! Or pilates, to strengthen her doggy core...

I'll find out this afternoon.

Mornin' Sillies....

Quick note since I'm off to the Chiropractor in a few minutes. (crack)

Em, good luck at the vet today--will be anxious to hear, and pray it's nothin' serious.

Amanda--you in for the Sillie Summit? ....And yes, we must find a way to git our friends out west here for this historic meeting B)

Sun's out here this AM, more rain later <_< .....basement report: new sump pump is working beautifully (and constantly) as well as the new dehumidifier! :D Operation dry-out is working!

Check your multivitamin to see if it contains Thiamine Mononitrate, which is a "shelf-stable" form of thiamine that doesn't break down with exposure to light, heat, and time sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold.  Our bodies have difficulty absorbing and utilizing it.  Only 30% is absorbed and less can be utilized.   There's some question as to how well multivitamins dissolve in the digestive tract.  You can test this at home.  YouTube has instructional videos.   Talk to your nutritionist about adding a B Complex.  The B vitamins are water soluble, so any excess is easily excreted if not needed.  Consider adding additional Thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) or thiamine hydrochloride.   Thiamine is needed to help control electrolytes.  Without sufficient thiamine, the kidneys loose electrolytes easily resulting in low sodium and chloride.   We need extra thiamine when we're emotionally stressed, physically ill, and when we exercise regularly, are an athlete, or do physical labor outdoors, and in hot weather.  Your return to activities and athletics may have depleted your thiamine and other B vitamins to a point symptoms are appearing.   The deficiency symptoms of B vitamins overlap, and can be pretty vague, or easily written off as due to something else like being tired after a busy day.  The symptoms you listed are the same as early B vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially Thiamine.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as three days.  I recognize the symptoms as those I had when I was deficient.  It can get much worse. "My symptoms are as follows: Dizziness, lightheaded, headaches (mostly sinus), jaw/neck pain, severe tinnitus, joint stiffness, fatigue, irregular heart rate, post exercise muscle fatigue and soreness, brain fog, insomnia.  Generally feeling unwell." I took a B 50 Complex twice a day and extra thiamine in the forms Benfotiamine and TTFD.  I currently take the Ex Plus supplement used in this study which shows B vitamins, especially Thiamine B 1, Riboflavin B2, Pyridoxine B 6, and B12 Cobalamine are very helpful.   A functional evaluation of anti-fatigue and exercise performance improvement following vitamin B complex supplementation in healthy humans, a randomized double-blind trial https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10542023/

I am taking a multivitamin which is pretty bolstered with B’s.  Additional Calcium, D3, Magnesium, Vit C, and Ubiquinol.  Started Creapure creatine monohydrate in June for athletic recovery and brain fog.  I have been working with a Nutritionist along side my Dr. since February.  My TTG IGA levels in January were 52.8 and my DGP IGA was >250 (I don’t know the exact number since it was so high).  All my other labs were normal except Sodium and Chloride which were low.  I have more labs coming up in Dec.  I make my own bread, and don’t eat a lot of processed gluten-free snacks.
    • knitty kitty
@Scatterbrain, What supplements are you taking? I agree that the problem may be nutritional deficiencies.  It's worth talking to a dietician or nutritionist about.   Did you get a Marsh score at your diagnosis?  Was your tTg IgA level very high?  These can indicate more intestinal damage and poorer absorption of nutrients.   Are you eating processed gluten free food stuffs?  Have you looked into the Autoimmune Protocol Diet?
    • knitty kitty
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can make TMJ worse.  Vitamins like B12 , Thiamine B1, and Pyridoxine B6 help relieve pain.  Half of the patients in one study were deficient in these three vitamins in one study below. Malabsorption of vitamins and minerals is common in celiac disease.  It's important to eat healthy nutrient dense diets like the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet that has similarities to the Mediterranean diet mentioned in one of the studies.   Is there a link between diet and painful temporomandibular disorders? A cross-sectional study https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12442269/   Nutritional Strategies for Chronic Craniofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders: Current Clinical and Preclinical Insights https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11397166/   Serum nutrient deficiencies in the patient with complex temporomandibular joint problems https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2446412/
    • Iam
Yes.  I have had the tmj condition for 40 years. My only help was strictly following celiac and also eliminating soy.  Numerous dental visits and several professionally made bite plates  did very little to help with symptoms
