Ooh--I love all this garden talk (furiously taking notes here :lol: )

I have a couple plants that I stick with--the ones I can't kill. ;) I'm in the process of putting in a perinneal garden--trying to anyway.....any thoughts on varities that grow well in full sun?

I was considering a muumuu and a wide brimmed hat for such purposes, but was thrust back to reality to me jeans and t-shirts B)

Why is it that when we think of gardening, we always picture a lovely woman in a breezy sundress, with a sweet straw hat? When I garden, I'm in my grodiest old shorts, holey tank top, and am covered in dirt and sweat from head to toe. <_<

Irises and lillies both do well in full sun, and come in every color you can think of. Dianthus and poppies are good, too... although poppies are SUPPOSED to be perennials, I can never get them to come back personally. <_< Lots of roses love the sun. Daffodils, of course, and Hyacinth.

Also don't forget about flowering shrubs and bushes... Crepe Myrtles are very pretty. I like the type with the smooth, graceful trunks, not the spiky ones. Forsythias are wonderful when they're well-kept (they grow wild around here a lot, and the wild ones get big and spiky, and not as nice.)

Gladiolas can take a lot of sun, but I've found they do best if they get a little shade in the afternoon. Tulips also do well in the sun, but both of these are a little higher maintenance-- in PA you probably would have to dig up the bulbs in the fall and replant them at the very beginning of spring. In NC, as long as they're well-mulched, I don't have to do this. ^_^ Also, glads can get VERY tall, and may need to be supported.

Although I like to buy local when I can, the big mail order companies like Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link can't be beat for the variety they offer. You could do whole gardens of lillies with all the varieties available.

Sigh... I want more flowers. :lol:

I swear I have a black thumb.....I have even killed a cactus....and those are so low maintence its not funny!

I have, too!!! :lol: I think it's because they're so low maintenance... you think they just don't ever need water at all, and then... OOPS. :lol:

Ok I am going to ask you guys a question and if you feel the need to get mad at me please do....

But do all of you guys buy organic? I still buy reg. foods.....just wondering once I hear your answers I will tell you why I asked...

Like Patti, I buy organic if I can, but definitely not all the time, or even that much. It's too darn expensive! I bought a couple bags of organic carrots the other day, since they were only a few cents more than conventional.

I know a lot of people on these forums buy all organic, but I could not possibly afford it.

I try to do vegetable gardens, where I can control what goes on the produce- and you can produce huge amounts of food for super cheap. But I wasn't well enough to do a garden this year. :(

Composted manure is the best!!! I use it in my beds, too... horseshit everywhere around here. (<giggle> That does sound funny.)

Mygawd....all this talk of successful gardening and organic eating. I'm outta me league.....

I have lots of tiger and day lilies scattered all about, and scads of evening primrose (yellow is my coloUr). That's about it. A big rose bush, and climbing vines that have taken over the back of the house. I LOVE rocks....the bigger the better, so we have some incredible boulders out front that I love to sit on wif me cats. The dogs will not scramble upon them, quite oddly....

Rocks are the way to go. No watering, no pruning, no dying.....fascinating, delicious coloUrs....... :rolleyes::D

I don't buy organic. it is really too expensive. I just wash everything very well, and I buy local. Guess I should be growing my own....organic AND local!

Thank you!! :D I copied all of your suggestions down--I'll bet I can get everything here--we have a fantastic garden store, the nicest one I've ever been to, and it's like 5 minutes away!

Maybe if it looks good enough when I get it all planted (I started this spring, haven't done anything lately with all the heat), I can take a pic for me av) :D

The most flattering tend to be the underwired, slightly push-up dynamic, Ptaoughmghmn....and go for the gel straps! Easier on the shoulders....... :lol:

My idea is quite similar: look out window, and think, "hmmmmm, there's a spot that could explode with flowering weed....must put another boulder down".

Hi, everybody.

I don't go out of my way to buy organic. Some of the specialty items we buy because of their gluten-free status also happen to be organic, but it is the gluten-free attribute, not organic, that drives those buying decisions. I'm just not convinced that the extra cost is justified. My opinion, yours may vary.

So far, there has been no rain since I got up this morning. It has been a while since we have had such a day in these parts. Toronto has already set an all-time record for rainfall in the combined months of June and July and there is an entire week still to go.

      Get tested for vitamin deficiencies. Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

      Thank you so much for your response Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on. I'm not eating gluten as far as I know. However, I'm not sure of cross contamination. My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ??? if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease...

      EXACTLY! I was asked yesterday on my LAST video call with Standford and I stated exactly yes absolutely this is why I need the name! One, get proper care, two, not get worse.Im falling apart, stressed out, in pain and just opened email from Stanford stating I was rude ect.I want that video reviewed by higher ups and see if that women still has a job or not...

It took me 20+ years of regularly going to doctors desperate for answers only to be told there was nothing wrong with me … when I was 20 pounds underweight, suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies, and in a great deal of pain. Not safe unless they say it is gluten free. Spaghetti sauce? Not safe unless is says gluten-free. Natural ingredients? Who knows what's in there. You pretty much...

I had to figure it out for myself. If you're in the U.S., not having an official diagnosis does mean you can't claim a tax deduction for the extra expense of gluten-free foods. But it can also be a good thing. Pre-existing conditions might be a reason why a health insurance company might reject your application or charge you more money. No official diagnosis means you don't have a pre-existing condition. I really hope you don't live in the U.S. and don't have these challenges. Do you need an official diagnosis for a specific reason? Else, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're diligent in remaining gluten free, your body should be healing as much as possible so there isn't much else you could do anyway. And there are plenty of us out here who never got that official diagnosis because we couldn't eat enough gluten to get tested. Now that the IL-2 test is available, I suppose I could take it, but I don't feel the need. Someone else not believing me really isn't my problem as long as I can stay in control of my own food.

You pretty much need to cook with whole ingredients yourself to avoid it completely. Most gluten-free products should be safe, but while you're in the hypersensitive phase right after going gluten free, you may notice that when something like a microwave meal seems to not be gluten-free … then you find out that it is produced in a shared facility where it can become contaminated. My reactions were much-more severe after going gluten free. The analogy that I use is that you had a whole army of soldiers waiting for some gluten to attack, and now that you took away their target, when the stragglers from the gluten army accidentally wander onto the battlefield, you still have your entire army going out and attacking them. Expect it to take two years before all of the training facilities that were producing your soldiers have fallen into disrepair and are no longer producing soldiers. But that is two years after you stop accidentally glutening yourself. Every time you do eat gluten, another training facility can be built and more soldiers will be waiting to attack. Good luck figuring things out.
