Hey! I'm alive!

Sorry yer down, Scoozle. Hope you cheer soon.

Hey everybody! If you's guys wanna meet up, we can do it here in CT too ya know. I work at a hotel where everyone can get 50 bucks a night (employee rate!), rooms with microwave/fridges, and I'll cook somethin and there's lotsa places to eat out around here, there's even a breakfast place that does gluten-free pancakes!!! And a dinner place that serves tapioca rolls and gluten-free pasta. And a takeout place with lotsa labeled gluten-free stuff, very yummy. And a grocery store a mile from the hotel with Kinnikinnick donuts!

hmm, Nik's polishing Tel's ballcock, T's mom is gettin' hippy, bunnie's plying us with donuts. All seems normal here

Jess, did you name your chikvrbs? Yer not plannin on eatin' 'em, right?? They were for egg layin? in which case it's OK to name them . . . I know these things from nightmarish childhood chores which included "dressing" chickens and No, that doesn't mean putting little clothes on them personal experience.

Chicks are not for eating. Can't eat something I've petted. Don't think I'll name them, since I only interact with them as a collective. I just call them Da Boids.

little chicken clothes.......would certainly protect them from predators, as the villains wouldn't be able to stop laughing long enough to break into the coop.

Man, we have to meet. Just reading Rayechull's fab, uplifting post, and thinking about how you guys have become such close friends, I suddenly feel a surge of urgency, of a real want like never before to congregate with you all, somewhere, somehow. A lot of this is coming from my sadness re. Dad, but nonetheless I've realized how you have all become a real part of my life. . . . .....incredible. You were the first people, after my immediate family, whom I went to and spilled about my dad.

Thanks for being here, you hilarious, wonderful lot.

Jyess, you need to tell yer boss to p!ss off.

Sorry, I'm just takin' no prisoners right now. . . .. . . .

Emily, dear Em. My heart is full of love for you and yours. You are such an EXCEPTIONAL human being, come from excellent stock! You are your father's daughter, as far as I can see, and he is such a joy to this planet. My deepest wishes for a quick recovery and years of loving family time together. No matter what the need, we are here for you. <<<<hug>>>>

Yes, we MUST find a way to meet, if only for a one nighter. I am ready to credit card the expense--any one else? If the gorillas can do it every year, then surely we can do it once, eh folks?

It is ironic and heartening how a sudden intense realization can come from adversity, and for us to have found one another in this big world is nothing short of miraculous. We should honor the friendships created here by sharing the joy face to face.

And get really rip roaring drunk, too

good Lord - perfect

Flying octopii are a normal function of daily life during hockey season in Detroit. Some years ago some idiots got the great idea to throw dead octopiii on the ice during the Red Wings games, and it took like flies to sh..it. GOOD HUNGOVER MORNING, YA BUNCH O' P!SSTANKS!

(In my very loudest cyber-voice). . . . .....

Such entertaining reading . . . .. . ....thank you so much, guys -- something I really needed this morning. LAFFS!

Your meandering discourse through last evening reminded me of the classic Flowers for Algernon. If you have not read it, you've missed a poignant masterpiece, and it is well worth it. It is a fantasy story - - the printed diary of a young man who is very mentally challenged (Down's syndrome, perhaps). His writing is exactly like the 11 pm rantings of Jyess and Rayechull.

A scientist begins to study him, and administers a new neurological drug that may "cure" mental retardation. Incredible what happens as one reads along - -the changes that slowly begin to occur with his discourse.

But NO SUCH thing happened last eve - - just kept declining into a final debauchery.

Wish I'd been there!

OMG.....I don't wanna know. .. . . .... ... : . . .. . .... ...a feeder that will DEFETAT the squirrels?... ....... . .. ...does it irradicate or neutralize them? Squish them? Fill them with toxic gas?

I remembered how it took 2 or 3 months before I could believe that feeling so great after going soy-free could possibly last.

Now I don't know if I'm any better than the yrs before soy-free.

I cannot stand to hear anything less than supreme happiness from my friends--it pains me so :(

No major damage found on Lyle. Contralateral front and back feet are quite painful. He's been given pain meds, which he's quite enjoying, and some antibiotics, just in case. I'm supposed to just wait and see if he gets better. At least he feels better.

The civkeb togs remind me of my friends story. His son married some sort of wildlife biologist who's studying squirrels. To facilitate this she designed a little rodent capture suit, and she and my friend's wife spent Christmas sewing little squirrel straight-jackets. I'm still waiting for the pics.

Skeeter had her phirst horseback riding lesson today. I've been asked a few times in the process of signing her up, scheduling lessons . . ."Does she want to ride English or Western?", "Does she want to compete because then she will probably want to do English", "barrel racing?", "Is she interested in jumping?" . . . She's 8!!! She just wants to ride a horse!!

Her response when she was done with her first lesson . . . I think I found "my thing".

I have sooo been there! My daughter had to have lessons at 7 years old (or she would just die). We were asked the same questions, like we were investing in a college for her or something. I was just happy she got on the pony at all, considering how expensive it is <_<

Three of my friends in the past month have gotten viruses through FB so make sure your computers are protected!

Now for a gluten free foods related question, my mom picked up a Glutino Pizza for me, has anyone tried one of these? I have only had the Amy's with the rice/sunflower seed crust before so I have no idea what the Glutino one is going to be like.

Miss you guys :wub::wub:

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link... Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.
    • knitty kitty
@pothosqueen, Welcome to the tribe! You'll want to get checked for nutritional deficiencies and start on supplementation of B vitamins, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1.   There's some scientific evidence that the fat pad that buffers the aorta which disappears in SMA is caused by deficiency in Thiamine.   In Thiamine deficiency, the body burns its stored fat as a source of fuel.  That fat pad between the aorta and digestive system gets used as fuel, too. Ask for an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test to look for thiamine deficiency.  Correction of thiamine deficiency can help restore that fat pad.   Best wishes for your recovery!   Interesting Reading: Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome in a 6-Year-Old Girl with Final Diagnosis of Celiac Disease https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31089433/#:~:text=Affiliations,tissue and results in SMAS.
    • trents
Wow! You're pretty young to have a diagnosis of SMA syndrome. But youth also has its advantages when it comes to healing, without a doubt. You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.
