I remember a member here once saying that cross contamination really did her in but larger amounts (in her case, a cheat) didn't do much.

Um........Padt - was this moi? <I suffered GREATLY, but increasingly and very slowly on the two day cheat binge of August '06 - no poo crimes and jack-knifed pain until 3 - 4 days later, though - would NAE do it again>

Nikkel!!!!!! poor Alsy!!!!!!! does he get mental when he has gluten? will he drive yer nuts all weekend, as I would? Yes, get Patti's terlet there STAT!!!!!!!!!!

Glad Lyle's feeling better, wivout his teef :wuv:

SILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!! remembered to buy a thermometer yesterday.......took basal temp this morning.............YE GODS, was more than TWO degrees below normal!!!!!!!! <I must do this for several days, under armpit and also by mouth> This is pretty much a SURE SIGN of hypothyroid, as I have suspected. I suspect this has been going on for quite some time. :(

Alas, my doctor knows NOTHING about any of this  and told me I have "psycho-somatic" illness..........I was stunned, but wish I had slugged him. TSH tested HIGH normal - should be LOW normal.........thyroxine was .2 above normal, which is still quite low and NOT normal on some charts, he did not test T3 and 4, so - I must find someone else. <this doctor was very good when I hurt my back, but NOT good at anything of the auto-immune nature, I"m finding out, and he suggested last time that I "find another doctor" in a NOT nice way.......hate him  >

So........I've got to get a referral - I have found the doctor I"d like to see, he DOES prescribe ARmour thyroid, per their website.......may take miracles to get in, though. :(

more later, sills!!!!!!!!

Suz--no, it most coitainly was not you I was referring to. The member is not a silly and hasn't posted on the board in a long time. I just always remembered what she said because I'm so sensitive to cross contamination. :)

Good work on the temperature/thyroid connection. I've always maintained this since my temp always runs low--and had for years. You're on the right track! :D

Lyle is okay! Splendid.... . ...can picture him snoring away.

Cannot recall - - Jyesss, I know Lefty was a rescue....Lyle was too, right? it feels SOoOooOo wonderful to rescue a dog or cat.... ..nothing warmed my heart more than when we found Elsie on that farm and immediately bought her. The only down side is the possible health issues that can already be ingrained, and we've been very lucky with Elsie.

Probably very bad, mean people who made poor Lyle's teef that way!:angry:

Soooozle! I was feeling tired and cold all the time before I had my hypothyroidism diagnosed. Sounds like you've figured it out, and it goes hand in hand, it would seem, with celiac.

Ya need another doc! What in hell is wrong with these guys who don't do thorough enough testing? Crap.

I thought you Yanks did not need a referral to see a specialist... . .up here we do, and it is a pain in the arse. <_<

jerseyangel Proficient

Em, it depends on the insurance plan as to whether or not we need referrals. We've had both types and thankfully with the plan we have now, I don't need them.

Souczie, I hope you can get into that doc you mentioned. I want you to pheel better :D

Jestgar Rising Star

Yah Suze. Get better.

Lyle was the meth cat. I decided to only do rescues, and older cats, since those have the hardest time finding a home.

Debating a new cat for Lefty (after a few months), but it would have to be a young kitty, I think, for them to bond. That's just the way Lefters is. But then, maybe the two L's will learn to get along great. Ya just never know.

I say send Al to the staff member's house for the weekend. She needs to understand the full extent of the poo crime she has committed.

My thoughts exactly

...but (as expected) he's been perfectly ok. ...better than ok... on a gluten high!!.......... likely to crash and burn though :lol:

Now, I just KNOW the staff at the school will be thinking 'There's nothing wrong with him - he's been fine'

You know how it is - if people don't actually see you keel over and die they don't get it !! <_<

I've also heard (where?) that CC can produce a bigger reaction than intentionally eating summat gluten

Lyle is feeling much better wi'out his teef. They left the front ones, so he still looks cute when he smiles, but all the back teeth got pulled. After the first day home he started feeling better. He still gets pain meds, because I don't want him to feel bad, but he doesn't act as if he needs them.

This morning he whined and whined about going out, then to spite me went to hide under the bed, where he promptly started snoring.

I'll let him out when he wakes up, but for the moment I'm happy that he's sleeping well in a safe place.

Oh wee Lyle and his toofless grin

Bless him!!...I had a cat that had to have all but his front teeth out ....he was fine after, could eat crunchies no problem after a while.

*sigh* Felix was the best cat I've EVER had <sniff>

GOILS!!!!!!

The whole Thyroid thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

We must put our heads together!!!!

...also bought a thermometRE 'cos of Tel's symptoms - he too also runs 'cold' (whether the temp is from oral or armpit.....ALTHOUGH a true measure of core temp is actually rectal  ........but that would require buying another thermometRE methinks  )

Anyhoo - we should match up symptoms - here are Tel's:

Always cold

Dry flakey skin

Heart palpitations

Headaches

Tiredness

Low temp in morn

Depression (not sure if this goes under this umbrella?? )

TSH is the only test that ever gets done ...and is always 'normal' (whatever that is  )

Also, I notice that Tel's symptoms do seem to wax and wane..... but they always get worse as winter sets in

We also need a referral here <_<

Suze- Your wee furry friends are so beautiful!

OK- this thyroid BS has GOT to stop once and for all. So many people have it and docs who won't think outside the box don't treat it and peeps suffer (do guys ever have thyroid problems?)

Before I went on Armour, my average temperature was like 5 degrees before normal (93- if I had a 97 I was sick). I still don't think I'm on enough but at least my avg temp is closer to normal. Suze- Keep taking that temperature and show it to your doc as proof.

I had a temp of 92.5 once at the doc's and I said something (barely registers on the thermometer) and their reply was "Oh there is a lot of variation in individual temps" WTH? That's practically dead for gawd's sake!

There's a good site Open Original Shared Link that my Lyme doc sent me to. It's a little conspiracy theory-ish but there's a lot to it.

Em- We have a GP shortage too. I was just reading an article the other day that every year fewer med students opt for GP because it's so much more work than a specialty and far less money. It's only going to get worse if we get universal health insurance- sad. I watch my GP who is probably 35 and wonder how long she will last and just get burnt out. She's so amazing right now- motivated, truly caring, and she listens. But she's young and seeing 6 patients an hour will eventually wear her down.

I say send Al to the staff member's house for the weekend. She needs to understand the full extent of the poo crime she has committed.

AGREED! Knickers- you could just send her the poo

A Hole Behind

A man, while playing on the front nine of a complicated golf course, became confused as to where he was on the course.

Looking around, he saw a lady playing ahead of him. He walked up to her, explained his confusion and asked her if she knew what hole he was playing.

She replied,

Bev--thanks for that link. I'm gonna take a look.

Once a nurse wrote "sanguine" on my chart after taking my temperature. Cute, but WIH??

I'm love my Armour! My blood tests were always 'normal' so doctors would do nothing. I was icy bone cold, had super dry hair and skin, fatigued all the time, low temps like you and low blood pressure. But since the tests were normal...nothing. Finally saw an MD who treated fibromyalgia. She laughed because my supposedly 'normal' tests were way on the low end. Gave me some Armour and presto. It was like a miracle drug. First person to actually say something was my hairdresser who noticed my hair was nicer and had stopped splitting.

It's so hard to find a good doctor who doesn't just go by the tests but will listen to what we say. I drive 2 1/2 hours to see her once a year now for med refills. My fibromyalgia is doing great as long as I stay on my supplements and a few other meds. Also being gluten free has help.

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch--thanks for the tip about Dupixent, and I've added it to the article:

I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..." Anyway, there is definitely a connection, and you can go through more of the articles here if you're interested: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/migraine-headaches-and-celiac-disease/

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
    • tiffanygosci
Thank you for sharing all of this, Knitty Kitty! I did just want someone to share some commonality with. I did not know This one Deficiency was a thing and that it's common for Celiac Disease. It makes sense since this is a disorder that causes malabsorption. I will have to keep this in mind for my next appointments. You also just spurred me on to make that Dietician appointment. There's a lot of information online but I do need to see a professional. There is too much to juggle on my own with this condition.<3
