Birthday update- Hub & M came home from scouts. J made brownies. Had a couple of presents and cards.

Patti- maybe you should have thrown out the toaster, too!

Jess- of course we are jealous or reminiscing our youth ( I've been with hub 32 years). We need some fun!

OMG, having heart attacks watching me Giants in the World Series when I should be weeding my strawberry patch. Lincecum looked like he was playing his first Little League game in the first inning, but has redeemed hisself :D G I A N T S - Giants In Another Tortuous Series  Maybe this time????? It's so hard being a Giants fan - 46 years of it!!!!!

I have found arnica fabulous for a lot of things: bruising, bad cuts, my daughter's acne flare-ups, and most particularly swelling (from injury and/or surgery). I'll be anxious to hear how it works for you, Low-eee. . .... ..

Hmmmmmm.I wonder if that will work for my arm. Can you believe it is STILL bruised? Been almost 4 months <_<

You bet your sweet bippy! :P:lol::D

Oooh! I remember that!

Laugh-In!

Hubby picking it up for me on way home. Found out from someone on the bruising thread I posted that Arnicca Montana can cause GI problems and internal bleeding. Considering that I have an ulcer I think witch hazel is safer.

Thanks!!!!!

Loey biggrin.gif

Witch Hazel has already faded it a little. As for what the bruise looks like. Th eye looks like a shiner but the face is more like a peninsula.

P.S. Karanggggg- glad hubby is not in the doghouse!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday, Em!

Loey Rising Star

So, I'm alone fer dinner tonight so I thought I'd have a hamburger with toast....put the burger on the stove and start the toast. Open the fridge and remember they come to get the trash in a little while so I start cleaning out in there and rearranging.....

Must have gotten lost in me thoughts (dangerous) because I looked up and there was a thick grey stream of smoke coming up out of the toaster. :o I immediately unplug it and dig the burned bread out wif a knife, but the toaster is still smoking--bad. :o :o

I'm petrified that the fire alarm will go off and I'll be blamed for evacuating a building full of people. I open the window, get the ceiling fan going, turn the A/C on....then I carry the stupid toaster into the other room--for what, I don't know.....it still smells but the smoke has dissipated.

There was still time to get the fossilized piece of bread out into the trash before it was collected.

I probably shouldn't be left alone :lol::unsure:

Glad you're OK! Too bad we weren't together. What a team we would have made! I managed to spill a glass of apple juice all over the counter, counter chair and floor- what a sticky mess!!!!!!!. Got on my hands and knees and cleaned it as best I could. Hubby washed floor when he got home from work (he really is Zuperman).

We're in a new house and they never hooked up the vent from the oven to the outside of our house. I made duck in August and we had to use the self clean setting on the oven. Surprised the smoke detectors didn't go off that night. Have paid for someone to hook it up correctly since then.

We did return home from the movies one night and evidently our alarm was going off for 4 hours ("Carbon Monoxide Detected"). We had left the windows open because it was warm but called the fire department anyway (the 7 kids next door LOVED that). Turns out that because my husband installed hard wood floors (and did a lot of cutting wood on the first floor of our house) without covering the smoke detectors, small particles finally set the detectors off.

I'm following Jess's lead and hoping for one night of rectification! Perhaps after the Haunted Motel (or perhaps there?)!

Well, no need to be jealous. We watched baseball and then fell asleep as soon as we went upstairs. Ah well, I don't have a tv, so no world series for him tonight. :D

Who's volunteering to be our third stooge?

We'll see how I do at the Haunted Motel. Hopefully I won't fall in the dark and then I can come home and attack Clark. He deserves Superwoman after all the support he's given. I think I mentioned (brain fog) that last year we went to the Haunted Penitentiary in Philly. It was really awesome and extra creepy because it was a real prison. I took a really long time walking through. I actually talked back to the people trying to scare me. I even scared one back - I grabbed his hand (most were in the cells). I imagine it was a cool job for young kids.

Thanks, guys! Dinner out @ a very lovely gluten-free restaurant, then cake back here......got a couple of old friends coming over for drinks.. . . . .....

DH is in no doghouse -- he has dutifully remembered, and got me a high-tech heart-rate monitor. All good!

Ferritin levels.  And see what your hemoglobin looks like too, that will tell you if you are anemic?  You can have 'low normal' levels that will not be flagged by blood tests.  I had 'low normal' levels, my lab reading was. c12, just over what was considered normal, but I had small benign lesion on my tongue, and sometimes a sore mouth, and a consultant maxillofacial ordered an iron infusion for me as he felt my levels were too low and if he  raised them to 40, it would help.   Because you are not feeling 100% it might be worth looking at your levels, then discussing with your doctor if they are low normal.  But I stress, don't supplement iron without your levels being monitored, too much is dangerous.

Hi Katht -  I sympathize with your struggles in following a gluten-free diet and lifestyle. I found out that I had Celiac Disease a few months before I turned 70. I just turned 89 and it has taken me almost 20 years to attain a fairly normal intestinal  function. I also lost a lot of weight, down to 100 lb. down from about 140 lb. What Trents wrote you was very true for me. I am still elimination foods from my diet. One person suggested you keep a food diary and that is a good idea but it is probably best just to do an elimination diet. There are several ne and maybe one for celiacs. I used one for a while and started with plain rice and zucchini and then added back other foods to see if I reacted or not. That helped a great deal but what I did not realise that it would only very small amounts of some foods to cause inflammation in my intestine. Within the last few years I have stopped eating any trace amounts of hot peppers, corn and soy(mostly in supplements) and nuts, (the corn in Tylenol was giving me stomach aches and the nuts were causing foot pains). Starting an elimination diet with white rice is better than brown rice that has some natural toxins. In addition it is very important to drink sufficient plain water. You can find out how much to drink for your height and weight online. I do have difficulty drinking 48 ounces of water but just recently have found an electrolyte supplement that helps me stay well hydrated, Adding the water and electrolytes may reduce muscle cramps and gag spams you wrote about. . Also buy some anti-gluten enzyme capsules to take with meals. I use GliadinX advertised here. These are a lot of things to do at one time as they reflect my 20 years of experience. I hope you do what you can manage to do over time. Good luck and take care.

Yes thyroid was tested.. negative  Iron ...I'm. Not sure ... Would that fall under red blood count?  If so I was ok  Thank you for the detailed response..☺️

Hi all !! Did anyone ever get prescribed methylprednisone steroids for inflammation of stomach and intestines?  Did it work ??  Thank you !!
    • cristiana
Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues?
