New Family Member Arriving Tomorrow

No- I am not giving birth to this fur ball (Richard!) but Patti and Andre wanted the scopp so here it is. We found him Open Original Shared Link

Right now his name is Shiloe, but we are thinking about:

Keeping that name

Orion (our favorite constellation)

Bodhi (short for Bodhisattva which are enlightened beings that chose to stay on earth to help others)

Brubeck (for Dave Brubeck, my favorite jazz piano player)

Beck (cuause we think Beck is cool.... click Open Original Shared Link

Any other cool suggestions welcome!

Congrats...it's so fun to get a new puppy (aside from the pee and poo). I have 3 of my own...1 lab and 2 gordon setter puppies...

Oh Bev, he sounds great! I would be so excited, too :D

Of all the names you listed, he looks most like a Bodhi to me--plus I like the description :) Shiloe is nice, too. Maybe he's already used to it?

You'll have to keep us posted on the little one.

( :lol: Beck--people often tell my older son he looks like him! I think he looks more like Seth Green, but what do I know, I'm just the mom :D )

I like the name Shiloe as well as Orion. That's just me though.

You'll have to be sure to post many picture updates, since they grow so fast. :D

I'm so glad you are able to get a puppy, even though you are still dreaming of a bernese.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH he is so cute!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Just the sweetest little bundle of fur. I like Shiloe, but I am sure you'll come up with something perfect once you meet him if that's not right. I changed Tika's name about 10 times - - and she still gets called many things - and she should ahve been named Sassy.

BTW my brother's dog is named Mojo. :P

I am so excited for you!!!!

Um, both my dogs were house-trained almost instantly from the instructions in this great book I used - The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete (they raise prized German Shepards). In case you need any good tips. ;)

Stinker and Annie are SO excited for you also. :rolleyes:

Oh, so cute! We have a rescue puppy too. Well she is 2½ now. She is a german shepherd/lab mix.

I like the name Bodhi. :)

Congrats! I am adopting a 3-year-old cat named Butch (I will change his name to Spats, the late beloved cat of one of my best friends0>

When I saw your new addition, I thought he looked like a Morrie!

Have fun! I really believe that pets are God's way of saving that He loves us in spite of us!

Oh my gosh- I was so bummed I couldn't log on last night! I wanted to post so bad but it was down. He's doing great!

i, on the other hand, am exhausted! :blink::rolleyes:

We brought him home yesterday afternnon and he was shaking like a leaf. Got better as the day went on. last night I slept on the floor next to his crate! He was really good tough...not a peep (or a pee :P ) and we went out at 11, 1:30, 4:30, 6:30. I then passed out on the couch until 9.

Had to go up to school today to pick up some paperwork so Angus came with. He was great in the car. Shy around the office staff.

We went over the house of one of my committee members because she was dying to meet him. He LOVED her dogs (she has a yellow lab and a Newfie/golden mix with a head like a bulldozer but SUPER sweet). He was all over them and their tails were wagging like mad! He curled up with one of her dogs on the couch and took a nap.

He's had about 5 accidents so far which isn't bad considering we're crate and house training. He's even been nice to the cats.

He's a little suspicious of guys though. MUCH prefers me to Kurt and was afraid of another one of my professors who is male. :( Kurt's kind of bummed out. Me too. But hopefully he'll come around. :rolleyes:

Oh, Bev!!!! He's adorable, and will be such a handsome big fella :)

I'm really super happy for you. So is Angus the name? I like that a LOT. What a great name, and he looks like an Angus....Haines thinks so, too!

Enjoy, and one day he'll be house-broken, and one year he'll be beyond the chewing stage, and you'll be glad you stuck with him because he'll stick with you and be the perfect fit for your home.

Haines is so beautiful (not after Haines Alaska is he or did I already ask you that?). I wish you lived closer so our pups could play and we could compare gall bladder (lack thereof!) stories.

Congrats! He's adorable! Hang in there with the long nights - they'll get better. I can't count how many times I got up with Buddy at night during the first 6 weeks, then it got better. He's now 5 months and sleeps for 8-81/2 hours every night with no accidents!

Thank you, and yes for Haines, AK. Hubby and I took an Alaskan cruise a few years ago. A few months later we adopted a very loving shelter dog...ta daaaa.....Haines!

I wish you lived closer so our pups could play and we could compare gall bladder (lack thereof!) stories.

That would be so grand! Speaking of absent gall bladders, the euphoria was THE BEST ;) I still haven't figured that one out

Haines AK is so beautiful- I was there in the summer of 2001. Stunning (like your doggie).

i know I miss my gall bladder less euphoria- drugs? :D :D :D :D :blink:

congrats! we also adopted our new pup on petfinder and just love her. we were just away for a week and i couldnt bear being away from our baby!!

      A lot of people erroneously think soy is a problem for people needing to be on a gluten-free diet. Trents' comment above speaks to some celiacs also having a sensitivity to soy, but this is just some of them. However, soy sauce is something anyone following a gluten-free diet should be wary of. Many soy sauces contain wheat, which is where the soy/gluten...

      Multivitamin - 2 pills daily vitamin D - 1 pills daily magnesium - 3 pills daily iron - 1 pill daily

      I have many of those same CMP irregularities from time to time, with the exception that my potassium is always normal. What I can tell you is that it is normal for everything not to be normal when you get a CMP done. I used to get a CBC and CMP done annually and there were always some things out of spec. Docs don't get excited about it for the most part....

      Not sure what you mean by "soy being like gluten". Soy does not cause a celiac reaction. However, soy is one of the foods that many celiacs don't tolerate well for other reasons. Eggs, corn and dairy are also on that list of foods that many of those with celiac disease seem to be sensitive to. But that doesn't mean that all celiacs are sensitive to any one...

Many soy sauces contain wheat, which is where the soy/gluten confusion comes into play. There is gluten-free soy sauce available, just read labels to be sure. I use San-J Tamari, which is gluten-free but does contain soy, in place of regular soy sauce.

What I can tell you is that it is normal for everything not to be normal when you get a CMP done. I used to get a CBC and CMP done annually and there were always some things out of spec. Docs don't get excited about it for the most part. It depends on the particular parameter (some are more important than others) and it depends on how far out of range it is. Docs also look for trends over time as opposed to isolated snapshots of this or that being out of spec at any given time. Our body chemistry is a dynamic entity.

      Not sure what you mean by "soy being like gluten". Soy does not cause a celiac reaction. However, soy is one of the foods that many celiacs don't tolerate well for other reasons. Eggs, corn and dairy are also on that list of foods that many of those with celiac disease seem to be sensitive to. But that doesn't mean that all celiacs are sensitive to any one of them or all of them. It just means it's common. You may not have a problem with soy at all. Celiac disease is not a food allergy. It is an autoimmune response to the ingestion of gluten that creates inflammation in the small bowel lining that, over time, damages that lining.
