Well, I thought I'd better back it down a notch, lol! I've been posting a BUNCH, and don't want to scare anyone. :P:lol: I'm just about OBSESSED with this stuff right now, lol.

 Noooo....don't back down. You won't scare anyone around here  I just admitted that I'm going to order six blushes, and I already own eight, if you count my two samples :lol::lol: (come to think of it, maybe we are scaring lurkers just browsing through the gluten-free products forum! lol)

Oh I don't think I told you guys about the little organizer I got. It works really well. It's a snapware stackable tray box that I got at Linens and Things for $5 - bascially it's three trays that stack on top of each other. Not fancy or pretty, but it organizes everything, and you can add trays to it (although I don't know where to buy the extra trays  , which I will need after my next purchase  ).

The top comes off and when you turn it over, it's a flat plastic surface divided into four parts - perfect for mixing colors and swirling brushes :)

I figure you guys will excommunicate me from the cult if I don't post at least once today. ;) I still don't have the order I placed on Saturday, and the USPS site still doesn't have any updated information. I sent an email to EM asking for an update.

I am still working on my samples. I think I am warming up to how multitasking neutral looks on me, but I keep going back and forth between that and fairly light. I definitely prefer the original glo over the intensive, though. Looks way better on me. I do so love how I can mix the foundation into my moisturizer. I will explore more on applying it with the brush when my order gets here with my kabuki brush. If my order ever gets here, that is.

How do you guys decide what eye colors look good together? I know I am supposed to have a lighter color all over the lid up to the brow, and then another color on the part that covers the eyeball (what do you call that anyway?) and then maybe another color in the crease. But I look at all these colors and don't know where to start. Please enlighten the cosmetics impaired. Is there a site that helps with combining the colors?

Can anybody recommend a good eyeshadow in the brown family that is not too brown? Something with a little pink or purple in it? I am definitely going to order some more eyeshadows on my next order. I am also iintrigued by the comments of the green eyed people who say I need to try the maroon/red family. Makes sense since red is the opposite of green on the colorwheel

Is it a compliment or an insult when you are walking down the hall at work and the person passing you the other way stops dead in his tracks and says "Holy crap. You have on makeup." I know it looks pretty natural, so I don't think I look like Krusty the clown or anything, but I think he was a little startled to see me with my makeup on and my hair fixed.

I like Morning Cup on my eyes. It's a subtle brown with a bit of lavendar in it - a good color if you're in the cool/fair category. You can find it in the blush section. I'm sure the people who've already ordered the mini eyeshadow kit will have better recommendations.

It's a compliment of course :D

Oh Mango, that organizer sounds fun...if I keep buying at the rate I'm buying, I'll soon need something else. :P (Okay, not really because I still have LOTS of room in my caboodles box, but I just like to buy stuff  )

Colleen,

Good thing I'd finished swallowing my water...your post would have made me spew it all over! So happy you don't have that Krusty look going on. I think it's probably a good thing, lol.

Sheesh, I want your order to arrive almost as much as YOU do.

As far as what colors go together...I don't know if I can answer that...I think I'm an eyeshadow whimp!

Where are all my fellow cult members today???

I'm a little late to the EM bunch make-up ball today........:lol:

So from what you posted Mango, it sounds like the color applied is different from what it looks to be in the jar?

Happy Birthday to your son Joni!!!!

Here's what they say to use it for: "Ideal for blending and contouring the more delicate areas like the eye, and to dust away excess powder that gets left behind after application. Create soft sweeping color over your cheeks."

So basically Donna, something I won't know how to use and probably don't need?!?!?!

I'm a little disappointed in the eye brush that comes with the mini eye kit, just from looks alone. Keep in mind I had Prescriptives brushes before and they are pretty substantial, even all the ones for the eyes. I haven't used the EM one yet though, so I can't really rate it until I try it.

Mango, I'm thinking you need to high tail it back to Linens and Things and get a couple more of these stackable tray things  . Would they all stack together as one? If not, you could have one set for your millions of eye colors and all things eyes, and then another set for your foundations and face colors and brushes, then another one for all things lips.:lol:

Colleen, all I know I learned from that one color session I did and that has what I have done for years when I put a full face of makeup on (which isn't all that often since getting sick <_< , anymore I just put on foundation, blush, lip balm, and mascara on ocasion and call it a day)

For the eyes she put a highlighter (like a buff color) all over the lid and up to the brow, I believe I got Baby Bath from EM for this. Then a neutral color all over the lid (for me it was a peachy color and from EM I got Ginger Peach to recreate this). A darker color goes in the eyelid crease, and a darker color lines the eye, upper lash line and lower lash line. Then your mascara finishes off the eye.

Of course all our coloring and features are different, so this method maybe isn't for everybody.

You know what we need?? Virtual EM makeup apllication classes! Let's recommend EM to add this to their site, videos with somebody showing how to apply the EM, how to use the different brushes and accessories, and all other beauty tips and tricks.

So basically Donna, something I won't know how to use and probably don't need?!?!?!

I can answer this tomorrow after I have tried to use it for SOMETHING, lol.

I'm currently using my two eyeshadow brushes I got from BE years ago--the one is double ended...one end has a regular eyeshadow type brush and the other end has a "cone" shaped brush...really good for getting close to the lash line without making a wide line and also good for the crease area. Both of those brushes are still good, so I've just been using them.

Yep, they all stack together as one. I'm picturing ending up with a huge stack of trays that goes from the floor to my bathroom ceiling  I'm going to have to climb it to get to the top :ph34r:

Hey, I see Patti. :) Patti, you must post so we can all see your fabulous new avatar (what shades are you wearing in it, btw? lol :D)

Well, here it is--I was cooking dinner, so not my best pose

I was wearing Intensive Fair for foundation--with Plum Dust blush and Plum Dust lip gloss. No eye color--just mascara.

I've since played with the colors a bit, and love Fair/Medium Semi-Matte on me--it's very natural looking, and the semi-matte is a nice finish. I even use it under my eyes, using my concealer brush from BE--it gets rid of that odd greyish under-eye thing I have going on.

Question for everyone--I never liked BE eye shadows....they would kind of fly out all over when I tried to put it on the brush. I prefer to use my Smashbox eye shadows--they go on so smoothly. How do the EM eyeshadows go on? Are they like traditional eye shadows?

I love the color selection, and I'm tempted to try some--I also read somewhere upthread that they are coming out with mascara? That will be great! B)

The colors look really nice. :) I'm liking semi-matte too. It's smoother than intensive, but I also like intensive (and matte  - haven't tried original glo yet).

I think the eyeshadows go on really smoothly. I'm using a brush by Pur Minerals, which works perfectly. It has really soft, short bristles. I've never been a big eyeshadow person (never liked BE eye shadows), but after trying a couple shades of EM I now have the 10 eyeshadow kit in my cart, waiting to be purchased lol :D

So if I order another sample kit, is it wrong to get a foundation I've already ordered and know I like? Do they let you do that? I want to try my preferred shade (multi-tasking) in original glo, and I want to try one other foundation shade, but I don't know what third foundation to pick

Mango04 Enthusiast

Two new brushes just appeared on the website :D - an eyeshadow brush and a concealer brush

Green12 Enthusiast

Patti, I think your makeup looks nice :):)

I don't know about the comparison between the BE/BM eyeshadows and the EM eyeshadows since I never got around to trying them from BE/BM- so hopefully someone else will be able to tell you.

Mango, I think you can put anything and everything in your sample kits, I mean you could for all they know be ordering a sample kit for a friend or relative. They probably don't care what you choose as long as the kit is filled. That's what I'm thinking anyway?

What Lip Gloss colors does everyone like again?

I'm looking at Siesta (but I'm thinking that might be too pinky pastel-ish) and Copper (might be orange-ish on?), probably it will be between Cozy Night (too red?) or Plum Dust (did some mention it was orange-ish?)

And what about the eye creams, I know someone got the lavendar, but this thread goes so fast and furious at times I forget a lot of it already  Has anyone else ordered any of those?

I got Plum Dust, and I really like it. It's not orange at all. It looks very natural on me. It warms up my natural lip color and doesn't scream LIPSTICK! at people who walk by. I haven't tried any of the other lip colors. YET!!!!

jerseyangel Proficient

I like Plum Dust, too :)

I also have Girl's Day, now that one has some orange--or at least some copper in it. I like Plum Dust better. ;)

Mango--thanks for the shadow info. I'm gonna try some.

Gaah! I think I have to quit my job, let the housework slide and ignore my kids in order to keep up with this board!!:lol:

<_< I just placed my order and now I have to look into getting DVR Saturday!

Donna! Don't feel like you post too much! You're our 'go-to' person for colors - I believe you now have the complete collection ;) !

I had 2 new foam applicators and tried them, but I don't like the way the mineral makeup goes on with them. It seems to stick more to the foam then go on my face. Maybe some kind of brush would work better?

Thanks Joni! That's good to know - I guess I'll still use the brush and my fingers :) !

Also Happy Birthday to your son! My oldest just turned 8 in November - it seems like yesterday he was just a baby  !

Hi Laura,

To do multiple quotes, as you read down the thread, hit "quote" on the posts you want to reply to (the box will turn red). When you get to the end of the thread, hit "reply", and all the posts you chose will appear in the box. Answer them each in between the

Hope that wasn't too confusing--it's easier to do than to explain how

So I emailed EM and asked if by chance I could get the free brushes on my prior order. I said I wasn't aware of the special and I was so close to $30, if I made another purchase could I get the free brushes????...........and they said NO!!!!!!!

Oh well, it never hurts to ask and sometimes it does go your way :lol:

I just ordered another sample kit

I am trying to talk my mom into ordering herself a sample kit to try the stuff out and I was reading through the foundation descriptions to her and I suddenly realized I fit the Buff category just as much as the Cool category

Soooo I got:

Buff Foundation in Light, Fairly Light, and Fair Neutrals

Pick Me Up Pink Concealer (who doesn't want porcelain skin?!?!?!?)

Best Friends Blush

It was so hard for me to pick my blush color, I even went back over the last 10 pages or so and read through all of your critique's on all the colors and I still couldn't decide.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for my son. I told him my online makeup friends wished him a happy birthday and he made me point out where in the posts it said that. He really liked it!

That sounds perfect, especially since you can use the top to mix the makeup. Very cool. I did see a little plastic (clear and white) container at Walmart yesterday. It had 3 drawers and I think it only cost about 6 dollars. I want to keep looking though just in case the perfect container comes up, lol. I wish we had a Linens and Things near me, but I know we don't. I'd like to check out that one you got Mango. :)

Thanks for that information julie. It sounds a bit complicated, but I'm sure it looks nice when it's done that way. I might try to recreate that with the shadows I have. On second thought, I'll need to order more to have all those shades for blending... :D

I know I could use the Virtual EM makeup classes! I need all the help I can get...really!

The colors look really nice. :) I'm liking semi-matte too. It's smoother than intensive, but I also like intensive (and matte  - haven't tried original glo yet).

I have tried the original glo and think I like it more than the semi-matte, but it's hard to tell.

Yay, I need to check that out! Now if they could only change the freebie gifts to those...wishful thinking, I know.

And what about the eye creams, I know someone got the lavendar, but this thread goes so fast and furious at times I forget a lot of it already  Has anyone else ordered any of those?

I got the lavendar. The smell is ok, but could be better but the cream works really well. It's only a small container for 4 bucks, though.

Thanks Joni! That's good to know - I guess I'll still use the brush and my fingers :) !

Also Happy Birthday to your son! My oldest just turned 8 in November - it seems like yesterday he was just a baby  !

Your welcome! Do let us know how the brush works out.

My oldest, Sara is 9 and turning 10 in Feb. My son loves it right now because he is only 1 year behind her for a month.

Getting OT for a minute. I really need to get this Christmas stuff put away. I want my house back in order, lol. It's starting to bug me so I guess I know what I'm doing today.

Also, I need to vent about my car. It's been in the shop for a week and needed a tune up and oil change. The engine light was coming on so they tell me I have to take it back to the dealer for that problem. It could be a 100 dollar job or 600 for a catlytic converter. Also they found an antifreeze leak so 2008 is rolling in a a bit rough right now.

dlp252 Apprentice

YAY!!! Stuff for me to answer and NOT feel guilty about posting stuff!

Okay, so, today I'm wearing Multi-Tasking Foundation. I like this TOO...HOW CAN THAT BE, lol! So, my order of preference might be Fair Medium, Multi-Tasking, then Light Olive. Fair Medium and Multi-Tasking are almost tied though. I'll have to wait to see how the day goes with this before I make my final decision (until I try the next color  ).

Hold the orders folks. I'm wearing Photo Album, and I really like it. It looked so much darker on my fancy plastic margerine tub lid than did DVR Saturday, but it went on very nicely and it's not too dark. I think if I had any of the finishing dusts, I would have looked liked I'd been airbrushed. :P I don't now know which of the three (Apple, Photo Album and/or DVR Saturday) is my favorite. Would it look odd if I did half my face in one and half in another. Wait...maybe I'll do that tomorrow after I'm done with all my running around and appointments, lol.

I LOVE gingerbread man (the free eyeshadow special). It's a nice brown with a touch of pink or red or something. :P It's got a lot of sparkle when you look at it in the jar, but it's a little more subtle on. I've got Pots'N'Pans on the whole eye area (from brow to lashes), then I used Nick Nack (which I think is too light for a blush for me, but I will try that this weekend at some point just to make sure, lol), on the lower lid from the crease down to the lashes, then I put the gingerbread man close to the lashes and under my lower lashes. The gingerbread man looks slightly smokey, but it's pretty subtle. It'd look fabulous if I had bothered to put on mascara (I may be feeling better about myself, but I guess I'm not to the point where I want to put mascara on at 5:00 in the morning  ).

Question for everyone--I never liked BE eye shadows....they would kind of fly out all over when I tried to put it on the brush. I prefer to use my Smashbox eye shadows--they go on so smoothly. How do the EM eyeshadows go on? Are they like traditional eye shadows?

I've used the BE eye shadows. The EM eyeshadows are packaged the same way. They are loose minerals in a little container with the shaker thingy. I think the EM shadows go on smooth, while I never had any problem with the BE shadows I think the EM might go on a bit smoother. I do basically the same thing with the shadows as anything else...I put a little onto my lovely margerine lid, the run my eye shadow brush back and forth through the minerals in short strokes. I blow off the excess, then put it on. I'm still using my BE eyeshadow brushes, but I'm sure I'll be investing in the new EM ones, lol.

So if I order another sample kit, is it wrong to get a foundation I've already ordered and know I like?

Oh no, lol! I've done it. :P Hey, you have to make sure you get the right one! I ordered the Olive Light in all the different formulations, and I think I ordered Fair Medium a couple of times. :P

Two new brushes just appeared on the website :D - an eyeshadow brush and a concealer brush

OMGOSH!!!! Going there as soon as I hit POST, lol.

Patti, I think your makeup looks nice :):)

Me too...I may have to look at plum dust again, lol!

I believe you now have the complete collection ;) !

Pretty close!

So I emailed EM and asked if by chance I could get the free brushes on my prior order. I said I wasn't aware of the special and I was so close to $30, if I made another purchase could I get the free brushes????...........and they said NO!!!!!!!

Oh Harumph!!! Stupid money sucking car repairs! Mine was particularly sucky last year.

I'm basically LAZY, so my Christmas stuff is still up and I told my mom it might just stay up until January 31, lol, but I really AM wanting my space back, lol. I have a TINY condo and the trees (yes, more than one) are just really cramping my space. :P

jerseyangel Proficient

Donna--thanks for the detailed description of the eye shadows.

I know what you mean about different foundation shades working just as well as one another. These minerals are so forgiving....I tried the whole "cool" group and really, any one of them would work for me.

I do have my favorite, though :P

Joni63 Collaborator

Yep, the car repair stinks. The bad part is we want to get a new car and this might set us back because it could end up being 1,000 in repairs. This is the car we have to keep as a 2nd car so we have no choice.

Ok, nuff of that!

Patti, I forgot to mention in my loooong post that I think your new avatar is fabulous. You look so pretty and your hair looks very nice, too.

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply.   Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct.   Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right!  Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?)  A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs.   Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten.  It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
